  1. I mean, legitimately. Off-hand, I can think of the stories from Saturn and his (eventual?) dislike of Kronus. And we all know Sheik and Volkoff have a very up-and-down relationship ;-) Are there any other good examples of teams with members who weren't best of friends? Especially long-running ones?
  2. Sorry, double post...
  3. So I guess it was a one-shot deal (ducking)?
  4. Done. Heard nothing back though.
  5. Rhonda was a friend of mine via email, and she sadly passed late last year. She mentioned before that she used to be in wrestling, and her obit confirms that: http://www.legacy.com/providence/Obituarie...sonID=122098924 Does anyone recall what names she went by and where she was seen? She did tell me at one point, but I forgot...
  6. Looks like SK picked up on this as well: http://www.rspwfaq.com/2009/06/wow-dave-loses-his-mind/
  7. And that's OK. Well it was for me at the time, probably cause I was of the "proper" age. And maybe that's why it's a bit jarring to see that era "exposed"
  8. Here's a question: would Owen's status have gotten better when Bret and Vince made up? And assuming fate would remain the same for the others later on, would Owen benefit in that he'd be pushed better to "promote" the Wellness Program? (This based on the talk that he wasn't WWF-type "star" material) Ironically, that was part of Bret's rise, no? To counteract the steroid scandals? (Though that seemed more consistent, the WP era now is more random)
  9. Anyone got any more? You do know, BTW, that Steve Beverly went from being a wrestling smark reporter to being a game show smark reporter: http://www.tvgameshows.net/
  10. These are fascinating reads and I love going into the past...though naturally these WONs are uber-smarky for me. You think it would kill Meltzer at the time to say anything nice about the WWF...or was it really doing iffy business when the Hulkamania "boom" started?
  11. I just got mine today. My advice? GET THIS BOOK NOW. http://www.cornettescollectibles.com/produ...amp;productId=2
  12. Not disagreeing with what should be on there, but the one on Shawn's set is 1/23/89. This one is 3/18/89. Funny, I could only count six duplicates: Anything from SummerSlam or WrestleMania, obviously (four). Horsemen vs. Sting/Nikita. And I guess the Cyber Sunday match. If I missed anything, let me know. Anyway as I don't plan on getting the PPV anthologies (I can only take the music changes and all in small doses), it doesn't affect me. Yes I wondered why Rockers vs. BB I from SNME didn't make it. (You'd think they were saving it for this since it wasn't on the SNME set) But I like the MSG/house show/weekly TV love here in general. Also, just to let you know, Harts/Bulldogs is not the one on Bret's set. Ditto Public Enemy and others...but I fear the ECW library will soon be Benoit-ed given the PG rating. Oh and did they say the AWA match was on the Spectacular Legacy? OK make that seven. Also... Did the post above mean the Steiners/Nasty Boys Havoc '90 match? You see so little of pre-Bischoff WCW on DVD (1990-1993), so yeah. But hey...Steiners in Japan! We can go on ad infinitum about what would have/should have been good additions. But this lineup looks decent and varied to me. I do miss the really early days of WWE Home Video (2003-2005), though, when it seemed like they got everything right. The first Flair and Benoit are shining examples of this, as those had pretty much everything we would put there, given WWE's library holdings. And they seemed to take care to pick good matches. Now, there's a lot more randomness and I like the classic footage in general, but yeah, it seems they were more careful in the good old days. New things they have to exclude for various reasons don't help either...there's a lot more problems now than just editing WWF references and uncleared music.
  13. http://www.amazon.com/Yearbook-200-Figures...1354&sr=1-1 Anyone got this/read this yet? Is it worth checking out?
  14. And here is said promo....
  15. http://www.nypost.com/seven/04152009/gossi...e_oj_164506.htm As I've stated on other groups, this kind of puts that one Nitro promo from '95 ("Everyone knows what a guy in black gloves is capable of!") in a new light. And to borrow from RSPWFA2, I wonder if this means soon, WM IX will now end with Yokozuna winning the WWE title...
  16. I assume the original question is not talking about business so much as it is personal taste? For me, my worst wrestling promotion in history is the WWF Attitude era in the late 90s. By far, and it's not even close. I hated that era. In every single way possible. I could write an essay about this but I hate it so much I can't stand wasting that much time on it. WWF Attitude Get it? Es-say! Es-say! Es-say! Es-say! :-)
  17. I personally wonder if Herb Kunze is still around somewhere, or if what happened to wrestling in NA in the last 7 years made his head explode.
  18. Was reading the Steel Cage site, and when they did a brief bit on the Boss Man/Nailz feud, they mentioned that Brian Adams did the original voiceovers for the Nailz promos before we saw Kevin Wacholz on screen. (I'd like to see if any of these promos can be found anywhere so I may compare) Even as a youngun back in the day, I knew the voice at least sounded like Crush (whom one of the Apter or etc. mags said was coming back at the time) so I was convinced he would play the convict character somehow. Then they began running the "Kona" Crush promos at the same time. But was it ever considered to make Adams into the Boss Man's new rival? Or did they always have Wacholz in mind? (Oddly enough, 4 years later Crush WOULD be reintroduced as an ex-convict character)
  19. The economy is making Vince realize that sometimes cutting your nose off to spite your face isn't the best plan of action w/r/t making money. Like, if things stay crappy until 2010 like a lot of people think, I fully expect Randy Savage to be in the next HOF class (he's pretty much the only big name from the 80s left that isn't in). No I didn't mean Savage (who does get respected in even WWE print anyway)...
  20. There are qualms here and there, like it only focuses on people who actually worked for the (W)WWF/E. And you have to put up with WWE speak (Superstars, sports-entertainment, etc.) But I was surprised, it's otherwise pretty thorough for the most part, even including supposed "bridge burners" and people who moved on to TNA and the like. And they too get fair entries. There is even one entry that I know a lot of us were sure WOULDN'T happen. My jaw dropped when I saw it. Could the healing process be beginning?
  21. OK, so over at SK's blog, someone reasons that it was the fallout over Vince losing a lawsuit over who owned the rights to the "Macho Man" character. Anyway, can we just all be happy that SOMETHING is coming out at last, and that the SNME disc was a step in the right direction too? Like I said, I hate dwelling on politics.
  22. Wrestling court is hardly a WWE concept. Many professional locker rooms have unofficial kangaroo courts. Aha. Thanks for calling me on that one.
  23. Huh, I always thought it started on DVDVR (the "Wrestling Sleaze" thread was where I first heard it). And you'd think Vince would do something, you know, LEGALLY if it were true...but this is the head of the same company that originated the "wrestling court" concept and all and who believes that the on-screen product can be used for dishing out justice. On the other hand, I can TOTALLY see him taking someone jumping to WCW as serious as if someone did something to his own family (he admits it himself in that Andre book, when he called Andre and told him how heartbroken he was that he appeared at Clash XX). Anyway, the other thing to remember is Savage is like the Warrior in that he not only left but NEVER returned. I get what you all are trying to say about how it's different...but it still doesn't add up. And I am sure there are people in the company who'd say ANYTHING on a DVD or etc. if it meant their job. What's weirder is that despite their bad blood, despite that DVD, they still make various Warrior action figures and whatnot. Until now, Savage hasn't gotten that distinction. AND Sting has NEVER worked for the WWF/E at all, yet I have rarely heard of him getting buried. Like I said it just doesn't make any sense. I wonder if it has anything to do with Savage asking too much for royalties. Of course I don't understand how royalties work especially when it relates to DVD releases vs. other things (i.e. 24/7 reruns) All I know is that I friggin' hate politics. It ruined the current product for me (along with bad writing) and now I have to worry about it when they do anything old school.
  24. Same timeline as when Andre died the next day after WM3, where Hulk slammed ALL 800 POUNDS OF HIM...OVER HIS HEAD, BROTHER. And was the one who won the WWE title from him that night.
