INT: The Assassins - as there has been controversy about them supposedly putting foreign objects in their masks, they are going to demonstrate how hard their heads are by breaking boards with them. They then decide to do this after their upcoming match. The Assassins vs Steve Regal & Rick Morton - The Assassins pull a switch and then as one of them puts a foreign object in their mask, Billy Robinson and Ken Lucas come out and attack them and beat them with the boards. INT: Billy Robinson & Ken Lucas INT: Bill Dundee - the CWA title is still Jerry Lawler's, as he was DQ’d in their match and it is not held up. Paul Ellering had come out with Dundee, and was annoyed that Lance Russell didn’t call him out, and he feels that he is being overlooked by everyone. Bill Dundee & Paul Ellering vs Bill Smithson & Sugar Bear Harris - Ellering turns on Dundee, lays him out with a suplex and he is then pinned by Harris. 1992-02-29-SMW-TV

Smoky Mountain Wrestling TV Aired February 29, 1992 Knoxville Civic Coliseum, Knoxville, TN Danny Davis vs Barry Horowitz - much more competitive than his WWF and WCW squashes and you see just how good Horowitz is. INT: Jimmy Golden Recap of The Fantastics vs Jimmy Golden & Ivan Koloff from last week and the show closing brawl INT: The Fantastics - they wish they could be here this week to meet the Koloffs nose to nose in the ring, but they have prior commitments in Japan. They have been on the phone daily trying to get a six man partner and will meet the Koloffs and Golden when they get back from Japan. INT: Bob Armstrong - he has watched the tape (from last week’s main event), but they are professionals and we can’t have that going on as they may mess up the TV cameras or some fans could get hurt, so he’s fining everyone involved in that brawl $500. He has spoken to the Fantastics and believes that they have a legal right, so when they get back from Japan he’s granting them a six-man tag match on TV against Jimmy Golden & the Koloffs and they can pick a partner of their own. He then tells Dutch Mantel that Brian Lee is after him, and whilst he’s warned him not to disrupt the TV show and come messing with him if he’s behind the announcing desk, if he gets in the ring, then he’s on his own. INT: Ron Wright - he wants to share with us one of the thousands of letters he’s received in the past few weeks. The letter writer says how he’s been a fan of Mr Wrights for years and knows that he was one of the greatest, best loved wrestlers ever and always liked how he showed the other wrestlers such good sportsmanship when they tried to maim and cripple him. They’re very sorry to hear that he needs money for his operation so have enclosed $5 for him, but wish it could be more for a kind old man like him. Hopes that other fans will also write in and send money until he’s able to find a good, Christian athlete to manage. This nearly brakes Ron down knowing that he has this support from fans who know he was a good, clean, Christian, scientific wrestler and he appreciates it from the bottom of his heart. Hilarious again! Bob Holly vs Tommy Angel - Ron Wright comes down to ringside to do some scouting. He ends up grabbing Angel’s ankle as he is about to climb to the top turnbuckle turning the bout in Holly’s favour. INT: Paul Orndorff - he’s hear for the SMW title tournament, but plans to look into why the piledriver has been banned in the area. INT: Brian Lee - claims that Dutch Mantel has been running from him from day one and he’s been told that if he grabs him from behind the desk he’ll be fined or suspended, but the moment he puts one foot in the ring he’ll break him in half. We return from the interview to find Mantel coughing and spluttering, claiming he’s too sick to wrestle and gets Carl Styles to stand in for him. Carl Styles vs Reno Riggins - after the match Brian Lee comes into the ring and challenges Mantel but gets jumped from behind by Styles. INT: Jim Cornette - everyone in SMW are gutless cowards who are scared of who is new team is, and Bob Armstrong has said that he can’t enter a team in the tag team tournament that is nameless and faceless as it won’t be fair to everyone else. Cornette says no-one will know who his team is until the tournament rolls round, because if they knew, they’d all bail out like rats on a sinking ship. Jimmy Golden vs Robert Gibson - Ivan and Vladimir Koloff come to ringside to second Golden midway into the match and end up interfering for the DQ. Tim Horner and Hector Guerrero make the save and run off the heels. INT: Bob Armstrong & Robert Gibson & Brian Lee - Armstrong says that there will always be guys like the Koloffs, Golden and Dutch Mantel who’ll try to get away with what they can, and if Lee and Gibson want to get some guys together he could be tempted to look the other way. Lee says that thanks to Armstrong he’s got Carl Styles one on one next week. Bold matches are PWO recommended

    1992-02-22-SMW-TV

Smoky Mountain Wrestling TV Aired February 22, 1992 East High School, Morristown, TN Hector Guerrero vs Tommy Angel INT: Ivan Koloff & Jimmy Golden - he’s spoken to Vladimir and he’ll be back shortly, but the contracts have been signed and they’ll face the Fantastics in today’s main event. Recap of Dutch Mantel vs Brian Lee from last week, and Lee’s interview wanting a rematch. INT: Dutch Mantel - if Brian Lee thinks that he’s afraid of him he needs to back up, as the only fear he has is of getting hurt, but that’s called good sense. He then introduces Carl Styles who he met and whom asked him what he could do to get into pro wrestling. He said that if you do a few things for me, then I’ll do a few for you and he will be by his side from now on and if Lee wants him, he’s got to go through Mr Styles first. INT: Tim Horner & Robert Gibson & Brian Lee INT: Ron Wright - it broke his heart last week the way Brian Lee took the brass knux out there and tried to maim poor old Dutch Mantel. It was due to the likes of Brian Lee beating on him in the head, knee and hips that he’s all broken down and crippled in the chair. He’s still looking to see who he can pick up to help pay for these knee and hip implants because Medicare and Medicaid won’t pay hardly anything. The flu season is almost upon them and hopes something will turn up before the winter’s gone. Killer Kyle vs Rikki Nelson - Ron Wright comes down to ringside. The referee is distracted by him enabling Kyle to ram Nelson’s head into his violin case and get the pin. INT: Jerry Williams - repeat from 2/8 Don Cunningham presents Tim Horner a certificate for all the work he’s been doing with juveniles INT: Bob Holly - just the other day he was driving down Sunset Boulevard when he saw Jack Nicholson who called him over. Jack asked him what he’s doing in a business like wrestling when he could be making movies, commercials, whatever he wants. He told them that he likes to beat people up for a living and show these hillbilly hicks what a real star looks like. Says that he’s going to be a champion here in Smoky Mountain wrestling. Brian Lee vs Brad Anderson - during the match Dutch Mantel tells Carl Styles to go down to ringside and get a good look at Lee because they’ll eventually have to pick him out of a police line-up. After the match Styles gets in the ring and he and Lee get it on. Mantel comes to the ring and gets up on the apron, when a miscommunication sees Styles hit him and they both retreat to the back. Ivan Koloff & Jimmy Golden vs The Fantastics - Jackie has the sleeper on Golden when Vladimir Koloff rushes to the ring and clobbers him with a boot, enabling Lee to get the pin. INT: Ron Wright - repeat from 2/15 INT: Bob Holly - repeat from 2/15 INT: Jimmy Golden & Ivan & Vladimir Koloff - Golden says that Vladimir made it back from Russia just in time, when Bobby Fulton make his way over and attacks them all, dragging Ivan back to the ring with him. The three of them end up beating down the Fantastics until Tim Horner evens up the sides, and they continue to brawl all around the arena as the show credits roll over the top. Dutch Mantel is hilarious claiming it’s out of order what the Fantastics and Horner are doing and he’s going to write to Commissioner Armstrong. Bold matches are PWO recommended

    1992-02-15-SMW-TV

Smoky Mountain Wrestling TV Aired February 15, 1992 East High School, Morristown, TN Bob Holly vs Pat Rose INT: Tim Horner & The Fantastics INT: Bobby Fulton - later on in the show we’ll find out who Ivan Koloff’s new partner will be as Vladimir has been called back to Russia, however he doesn’t care who that partner will be. INT: Ivan Koloff & Jimmy Golden- in the absence of his nephew Vladimir who was called back to Russia on official business, he has aligned himself with an American, Jimmy Golden. Golden says that Smoky Mountain will be having some tag team belts and they might as well just give them to Koloff and he as The Fantastics have never beaten anyone. Says that he’s going to find someone with some authority to get them a match against them tonight. Joey Maggs vs Rip Rogers Robert Gibson vs The Mighty Yankee INT: Jim Cornette - starts by telling the crowd that they look like a genetic experiment gone wrong! Says that these days you don’t know who to believe and who to take at their word, but you can believe Jim Cornette. He says that he’s bringing the most dynamic tag team ever to Smoky Mountain and in the coming weeks there’ll be a tag team tournament, his team will be in it and when the tournament is over, his team will be champions whether these Hillbillies like it or not. Recap of Dutch Mantel vs Scott Armstrong from last week INT: Dutch Mantel & Ron Wright - Mr Wright’s plight and condition has saddened Dutch to the bottom of his heart, and he knows how hard it is when you need something and need money. He knows that he’s looking to find people to manage to make him some money, and whilst it won’t be him as he’s always stood on his own, Dutch says it would be a great honour id he escorts him to the ring today against Brian Lee and just sits in his corner. Ron wipes his eyes and says that Dutch has bought tears to the eyes of an old man who is down on his luck and he would be glad to. Ron doesn’t really see anything in Lee, but Medicare won’t pay for his hip and knee implant so after Dutch gets through with him who knows, there may be something for him to work with. Funny stuff. Tim Horner vs Barry Horowitz - nice action again with Horowitz. INT: Tim Horner INT: Buddy Landell - says that you’ve all seen the Nature Boy in other organisations, the reason why he hasn’t stayed there is because he doesn’t kiss no can and doesn’t do promoters favours. He’s been told that in Smoky Mountain he can be himself, can pull out eyeballs, slap hairlips on people and that the guys you see here are tough guys. He’s got a bad attitude, a big ego and Smoky Mountain is where it’s at. Dutch Mantel vs Brian Lee - Ron Wright wheels his way to ringside a few minutes into the match. Towards the end he passes Mantel some brass knux and slips them on his hand. He goes to punch Lee but he blocks the punch and wrenches the Knux off Mantel. He puts them on his own fist, clobbers Dutch and covers him, but at the two count the referee spots them still on Lee’s hand and DQ’s him. INT: Ron Wright - he’s not yet found the team he wants too so he can manage someone and get this hip implant surgery. He’s a bit down with his arthritis in the back and knee but he’ll get there. INT: Bob Holly - doesn’t have much time as he has a limousine waiting for him and a dinner date with Julia Roberts tonight. He is joined by Jim Cornette who says you’ve never seen anything like Smoky Mountain Wrestling. INT: Brian Lee - says that as Dutch Mantel and Ron Wright are such good friends he might put Dutch in a wheelchair right beside Wright. He says that he’s been ripped off, wants a rematch and doesn’t care where it is. Bold matches are PWO recommended

    1992-02-08-SMW-TV

Smoky Mountain Wrestling TV Aired February 8, 1992 Memorial Auditorium, Greenville, SC INT: Jim Cornette - he can hardly wait to see ‘Hollywood’ Bob Holly! Bob Holly vs Tim Fry - Ron Wright comes to ringside during the match to do some scouting. INT: Ivan & Vladimir Koloff - today will be the end of The Fantastics career. INT: Robert Gibson Paul Orndorff vs Rip Rogers - good little match. INT: Danny Davis - is proud to be associated with Smoky Mountain wrestling and is now ‘Nitro’ Danny Davis. INT: Bob Armstrong INT: Brian Lee - tells Dutch Mantel it’s easy to sit behind a desk and criticise, but if he’s got a problem with him he’ll settle anytime, anywhere. Dutch Mantel vs Scott Armstrong - Mantel is DQ’d for using his bullwhip and continues to whip Scott after the match until Brian Lee makes the save. INT: Jerry Williams - recommends people bring in SMW if they want to raise some funds etc. as that’s what his school did. INT: Bob Armstrong - says that Dutch Mantel can get past the foreign object clause by claiming that the whip is part of his paraphernalia, but if he uses that whip it’ll cost him $500 the first time and we’ll see after that. Also says that Dutch appears to have a problem with Brian Lee and we can settle that, so next week they’ll face each other here on TV. INT: Jim Cornette - everyone has been asking him who this tag team he’s bringing in is, but nobody is going to know until he’s ready and when he is ready is when they decide champions around here. He says that he’s been in other organisations where you say you want to get a little higher on the card, but they say ‘no, you’re not selling enough bubble cards’, you say you want a little more money, but they say ‘we can’t pay you as this guy’s got a contract selling tennis shoes, we’ve got to pay him’, and you say you want a title shot, but they say ‘we ain’t going to give you a title shot as you may beat him and he’s just signed a contract to be on an episode of a situation comedy’. That’s the problem with other organisations, but round here you become a champion by winning a lot of matches. INT: Wally Yamaguchi - is here to scout the talent and also possibly exchange TV programming. Recap of Bobby Fulton vs Ivan Koloff from last week INT: Ron Wright - maintains his innocence and doesn’t know why the Fantastics are all upset and claiming he gave Ivan Koloff something. Says that he’s just a poor, crippled old man in a wheelchair and all he’s done is come to look at the talent in Smoky Mountain, and may find a team or man to manage to help make him some money to get his hip surgery. Ivan & Vladimir Koloff vs The Fantastics (Bobby & Jackie Fulton) INT: Jim Cornette - they’re bringing back live wrestling to the towns in the Smoky Mountain area, but that’s like an albatross to him and he’s calling Bob Armstrong as he’s not going to these stinking, red neck, hillbilly towns. INT: Terry Gordy INT: Tim Horner - Bob Armstrong has confirmed to him that Smoky Mountain is not a body building contest or a rock show like some of these other organisations, and that everyone can compete on a level playing field. Bold matches are PWO recommended

    1992-02-01-SMW-TV

Smoky Mountain Wrestling TV Aired February 1, 1992 Memorial Auditorium, Greenville, SC Robert Gibson vs Killer Kyle INT: Bobby & Jackie Fulton INT: Bob Armstrong - is going to do his job as commissioner and is going to bring back wrestling as it used to be and as it should be. Says that there’ll be no throwing people over the top rope, no foreign objects and no pushing around of the officials . Brian Lee vs Barry Horowitz INT: Ron Wright - he’s scouting the wrestlers in Smoky Mountain to hopefully find some that he can manage, get under contract and make him some money so that he can get the hip and knee surgery that he requires to get him up and out of this wheelchair. Tim Horner vs Joe Cazana INT: Jim Cornette - the big promotions have turned wrestling into a circus and a sideshow, it’s now whether you want to wear a funny costume, it’s whether you can sell a doll at Toys ‘R’ Us and it’s how juiced up on steroids you are. They have turned their back on professional wrestling, so he has turned his back on them. He made his reputation managing the greatest tag team in wrestling, the Midnight Express, and in the weeks to come he’ll be bringing a team to Smoky Mountain that’ll revolutionize tag team wrestling just like they did, because this is the real deal, it ain’t no cartoon wrestling and Jim Cornette will be King of the Hill. Black Scorpion vs Paul Miller - Miller small packages him for the win. INT: Brian Lee - he’s interrupted by Dutch Mantel who tries to give Lee some tips, but Lee isn’t receptive to them. Ivan Koloff vs Bobby Fulton - Ron Wright wheels himself down to ringside during the match. Towards the end of it he shakes Koloff’s hand, but appears to pass him a foreign object at the same time. Koloff nails Fulton and covers him for the three count. Jackie Fulton runs to ringside to tell the official what happened, who spots the object on the canvas and then reverses the decision. Vladimir Koloff then comes out and he and Ivan proceed to beat on Jackie and hang him with their Russian chain over the top rope. The commentators speculate whether Wright did hand Koloff something or not. INT: Bobby & Jackie Fulton & Bob Armstrong - Armstrong says that he told people foreign objects would not be tolerated and fines Ivan Koloff $500, and that if the Koloff’s want to fight each other’s battles he’ll sign them to a match against the Fantastics next week. Bobby Fulton says that ‘the goof in a wheelchair’ handed Ivan something and his brother saw it. Bold matches are PWO recommended.
  20. Clay Thompson was the first person I though of. I think I was close to nominating him back in 2016 but the lack of available footage meant I never. I think we have like four matches of his before he came back as the masked Exorcist. The Majid Ackra, Reg Trood and Alan Sarjeant matches are all great, and while he has already been nominated, Sarjeant also fits into this category. As awesome as he looks, it would be tough to vote for him off the half-a-dozen matches we have.
  21. I've been following it much more this season compared to previous ones, primarily due to Chennai paying a sizeable fee for Moeen Ali (he plays for my County here in England) meaning he's likely to be playing most games. Nice to see that he's been doing for CSK what he does for Worcs. Treat him right and you'll get the best out of him, treat him like England have done and you'll shatter his confidence.
  22. No idea. I picked up a copy of one of the discs (which was numbered) from a UK trader (alpha65) because I was looking to collect as much Memphis as possible and this 90's handheld of some USWA spot show, having never seen a USWA spot show before, looked intriguing (I also have a feeling the show was from late '92 as opposed to '93). Alpha65 was a pretty big-time collector back in the day but I don't know where he got the disc from and his list was the only one I ever saw it on.
  23. The Evansville handhelds I saw were definitely from Jeff Osborne as he used to do a little introduction about the shows before the footage. I was heavily into MMA at the time and recognized him from Hook 'n' Shoot and UFC and was surprised that he was this super wrestling fan prior to MMA, going to and filming USWA spot shows.
