Loss
Dave Meltzer seems to think we're about one step away from the second version of the Monday Night Wars, according to the latest Observer. TNA is expected to sign with WGN in the next few weeks and go head-to-head with RAW on Monday nights from 8PM-10PM. There is major infighting right now in the company between Panda Energy and the Jarretts that could possibly end with the Jarretts being let go, and they're looking to bring in Samoa Joe, CM Punk, American Dragon and Ultimo Dragon. Danielson is not a lock yet because he's reevaluating his career at this point. Those are definitely positive changes in the right direction, but I think they need to do something to attempt to secure a bigger name from WWE who can go, but it's going to require loosening the pursestrings to lure away a few big names. The only big name who's contract is expiring this year is Chris Jericho, and while he'd be a huge coup for them, it would take more than Jericho to make them competitive with RAW. Styles is the right guy to be champ at this point, although if there's a problem they face, it's probably WGN not being visible in most markets. It's also going to take 2-3 years, at least, for them to become completely competitive with WWE, and Panda is going to have to be willing to spend quite a bit of money. The safe bet is to bet against them, but legitimate competition would make wrestling fun to watch again, and it just might light a fire under Vince's ass to make his product better as well, so let's hope TNA can get their act together and form a viable alternative. They seem to be making attempts to rid themselves of the Jarrett stigma, so they're moving in the right direction.
Guest Some Guy
I live in the Boston area, which is the 6th biggest media market in the country and don't get WGN. I don't see how this is really benificial to the company considering that I could watch the show on FSN, but will have no chance to watch it now. It's too bad because with Joe, Punk, and the Dragons and potentially no JJ then I would at least tape and watch Impact. It will take them more than two years to be close to comptetive with WWE. This company has never even run a house show and they get about 400K viewers a week. WWE gets 3.5 million or so every Monday. WWE is light years ahead of them in every way, save maybe in ring talent if they get the afore-mentioned guys.
Al
Like SG, I don't get WGN.
JHawk
I find it interesting that a majority of the people I know that can see Impact now wouldn't be able to if they went to WGN. Has Panda Energy been made aware of that so they don't kill the company getting a "national" TV contract?
sek69
How is it that I get WGN here in Pittsburgh but it's not carried in bigger cities?
Guest rob
Cablevision dropped WGN years ago, so whatever.
Al
How is it that I get WGN here in Pittsburgh but it's not carried in bigger cities? Could be as simple as Pittsburgh being closer to Chicago. It's hit or miss, depending on the cable company.
Guest Flyboy
I get the WGN... I watch a lot of Bulls games due to having the channel. I don't really know if we can call this a "war" being that a lot of people don't even receive the WGN.
Guest Crucifixio Jones
I've gotten WGN nearly everywhere I've lived...VA, FL, AZ, GA, SC and MD. I think it'd be funny to see Vince humbled TWICE by a panda.
Coffey
If it weren't for WGN, I'd never get to watch the Cubs play.
sek69
At one point my cable system used to carry WWOR in New York when it was an independent station. That was wild, they'd have this psycho weatherman during their noon news, Howard Stern's old TV show, and in the middle of it all they'd show Mets games. Guest Flyboy
That was wild, they'd have this psycho weatherman during their noon news Not to derail this topic any moreso than what it already is, I must have details on that.
Guest Crucifixio Jones
The truth is, all weathermen are pyscho. Tell me I'm lying.

Guest Flyboy
The truth is, all weathermen are pyscho. Tell me I'm lying. The sad thing? I wanted to be weatherman when I was younger. They're part of one of the few vocations where lying to your face on a daily basis is perfectly acceptable. Reminds me of the car commercial where the black weatherman gets hit by a snowball at the end.
sek69
That was wild, they'd have this psycho weatherman during their noon news Not to derail this topic any moreso than what it already is, I must have details on that. His name was (I think) Lloyd Linsay-Young. He was one of those guy you couldn't tell if he was overly excited or borderline retarded. Any time he went to a satillite map or some other type of advanced technology, he'd punctuate it with a yell of "SCIENCE~!" (like in the Thomas Dolby song). *edit* I found a link , apparently he's working on a radio station in San Fran now. His son started taking over after a while, but my cable company dropped the station so I don't know how long it lasted. I see now WWOR was bought out by Fox's parent company and is now a UPN (??) affilliate. Kinda sad that all the wacky hijinx I grew up watching is probably replaced now with Moesha reruns. Guest Famous Mortimer
With those four guys brought in, and the Jarretts out, it would be a vastly better product. But...they need someone with very deep pockets and someone who can book. Obviously. Well, I say "obviously", but they've been lacking on the latter til now. Guest Mac
If the Jarrett's get kicked out then i'm pretty sure Nash, Gunn, Waltman and co would follow them voluntarily which wiould be great for TNA.
Guest Some Guy
I went through their wbsit trying to find out where WGN is available but all I can find is that they're on Direct TV and DISH Network. Meltzer said at one point that if they are on WGN that most people in Chicago won't get the station. There are two WGNs, a cable "superstation" and a network channel (WGN Channel 9). Chicago gets mostly the network and not the cable station.
