KrisZ
So damn hateable and not in a good way Not saying that I am a fan, but I disagree. He comes off as a funny, charismatic and likeable guy. Like somebody who you'd like to have a few beers with. That's why he's been able to get away with so much for so long. Even Dana White and Dave Meltzer completely bought into his previous spin, while they would have massacred Vitor, Bigfoot, Barnett or Overeem for exactly the same failure. He is so damn fake Jose.....you can't believe a word he says.

I assume that for a lot of people he's like Mean Gene is to me. You know that he's a sleazebag carny who will sell his grandma's dignity for a buck. But damn if Mean Gene isn't awesome and you wouldn't love it if he was your grandpa or something.
pantherwagner
He's been able to get away with so much for so long because he's a draw and was a consummate company guy (he'd always be there to take a fight on short notice to save a show). Actually I don't think Dave would have massacred other fighters who had been using TRT for testing positive for HCG and anastrozole, as he's been consistent from day one that quitting cold turkey would be dangerous for their health and they needed medical assistance to get their testosterone levels back to normal. I just hope we can close the book now for anyone who ever doubted that Chael was a drugs cheat. Dave actually kind of defended Vitor when he wrote his defense for Sonnen. And I think that there should have been a plan by the athletic commissions to allow the fighters on TRT back to normal safely. But Dave (who I consider as fair and impartial as anyone is) sometimes tends to use "wink wink" jokes with Belfort or Overeem that he rarely if ever uses with Sonnen. I also hope this stops people pushing for Sonnen to go to the WWE... as if he'd mean anything there past the first couple of free TV appearances. fxnj
Ignoring the fact that I have yet to see a convincing argument for why "PED's" like HGH and testosterone should be treated differently than any other supplement, people are being way too hard on Sonnen. I mean, you're kidding yourself if you don't think there's a huge number of guys equally desperate to win using their own illegal stacks who haven't been caught and that's a fact that most sports fans seem to willingly ignore when they celebrate the high level of competition sustained by these athletes. I question how much this hate is from people who really would want to see a "perfect world" with PED's completely gone and a much less entertaining resulting product, as opposed to people who are simply being worked into buying Sonnen's heel act. To use analogy, pretty much every male in porn is on Viagra or some similar drug that they may have gotten through some questionable means, but I don't think anyone truly wants it to stop knowing it would make a much worse product. To me, the only wrinkle that Sonnen getting busted for HGH and EPO adds to the narrative is that the guy truly was doing whatever he could to support his family through his in-ring performances, and I don't see why he should be hated for that. BillThompson
With Sonnen the issue isn't that he took PEDs. It's that he refuses to just come out and say "I took them to help me perform better." Instead he keeps spinning positive test results to ludicrous fashions. The fact that he continues to think it's cool to just lie to everyone over and over again is why he gets flack. It's the same reason why people hate A-Rod but have given Jason Giambi a pass. It's the same reason I hate Ryan Braun, even moreso in his case because he took a positive test and decided to spin it so that a hard working class individual lost their job just so that he didn't have to admit to his wrongdoing. If Sonnen would just admit he did something wrong most people would quickly move on, but he's deciding to spin like a spineless bastard. kjh
I know there's never going to be a PED free world, but why would it inherently make for a much less entertaining product?
Steenalized
I know there's never going to be a PED free world, but why would it inherently make for a much less entertaining product? I'm guessing it's the thought that guys aren't competing at their physical best since they can't train the way that they would on PEDs. That would make for a less entertaining fight, maybe?
