A little too business-exposing, but Steve Austin definitely showed he could talk with this run.

Great interview, one of my favorites. Is it a little too inside? Sure but that fits the character.

At the time it probably was too insider. Watching it now it's an amazing promo. Intense, insightful, condensed, captivating and ground breaking. All Steve Austin had to do to become a star is be allowed to be himself.

"We're gonna put the U.S. title on ya, we're gonna go here, and then you're the #1 contender, so you're gonna get this World title shot, WELL, ALL THAT SHIT NEVER HAPPENED." My favorite line from this.

 

Yeah, it's kayfabe-shattering to the core, but this is the one environment and the one point in time where that sort of thing could work. And Austin talking himself up as the "biggest potential superstar in wrestling" comes off as remarkably prescient now.

Awesome promo! Best promo he would have until King of the Ring! Great inflection and cadence. Great dynamics, loud-soft, fast-slow, it is amazing that someone who never really was a promo guy could cut such a high level promo.
