I can't wait. All reports are coming in as very positive. Let's just hope they don't clip it.

--From several reports from last night, the Chris Benoit vs. William Regal match as the main event for Saturday night's Velocity was among the best WWE TV matches on any show in a long time.

Alright, the match has been built up too much now. I have to watch it now. Hmm. I wonder if my expectations will be too high now? I haven't seen anything good from Regal in quite some time. Benoit even seems as if he's been calling it in for a long ass time now too.

Very true. Regal is awesome when paired with the right guys and given even five minutes to show his stuff, but that doesn't happen very often, and his style is so dramatically different from the WWE style that there aren't many guys who make a good match for him. Benoit and Regal have had really good matches in the past, so chances of it happening again are strong.

Aiight, when the commentators of a WWE TV show tell you the match was a "five star instant classic" you can pretty much bank on the fact that it wasn't. The ending was abrupt and seemed to have happened simply because they were out of time. The crowd didn't care about the match which I assume was because of all the chain wrestling at the beginning. The two commercial breaks took me out of the match. Seeing a Crossface Chickenwing and a Dragon Suplex were nice, not to mention a Tombstone being reversed into a Shoulder Breaker. Just throwing in a couple of moves that you don't normally see on WWE TV doesn't make the match a MOTYC though. It was a decent match. It just had a bad flow and seemed a little sloppy.

Looks like my VCR decided to be an ass. I just tried to watch the tape and I'm getting so much snow I can barely see what's going on in the ring. I will say Coffey has had the only negative thoughts on the match I've seen thus far, with everyone at DVDVR and Smarkschoice calling it awesome and hoping it results in a Benoit/Regal feud on Smackdown. Regal has a strong character and there's no reason he couldn't be pushed into that spot and he and Benoit couldn't feud over the US title. It's about time Regal gets paired with a game opponent in WWE. Nonetheless, I need to see this soon, so hopefully it makes its way around. Sadly, I can't download though.

**SPOILERS**

Eh, I don't think I'm being negative. It was a good match, I just point out what I don't like moreso than what I do. I think the commercial breaks hurt the match a lot. I recorded it and cut out the commercials though, so I'm about to watch it again. Then I'll watch it a third time on MUTE to see what I think. I think the biggest downfall of the match was having to listen to Josh try to put the match over as the best wrestling clinic of all time every thirty seconds. He did name drop the Pillman Memorial encounter though.

Upon first viewing, I'd say it was about ***1/2.

Also, when I said that the crowd didn't care about the match, I think that was just because of shitty camera work and the fact that it was a taped show. They seemed to give a standing ovation in the end but I can't tell if the cameramen were just showing people standing up or not because the camera was zoomed in. <_>

Regal got busted open hardway which I liked. Benoit did a shoulder move before the Crossface, which I also liked. It just seemed like he could've done more shoulder work. He slapped on the Sharpshooter and Regal struggled to get free...but the Crossface was auto tap.

Also, even though it's a taped show, you can tell that the wrestlers were stalling because of commercial breaks. Five minute knuckle locks don't interest me anymore, so I'm sure the live crowd didn't want to see them do if while the TV audience was at commercial.

I liked it. My brother taped it for me as I didn't watch it live so I had the commls cut out. I liked Eddy/Rey from 6/23 Smackdown better as face vs. face matches aren't doing anything for me these days. That and watching about 5 hours of Memphis stuff that I was indexing yesterday probably made the match not stand out as well as it did for others.

I taped it to, but I'm going to try and hunt down a live feed if possible. Here's what I aid at TSM:

That was pretty awesome. They went with like a stiffer version of the Pillman show, though I need to watch the latter again. They chain spots were great, as everything they fought over. It felt like a fight, a real struggle, which is just a great dimension that these two bring to wrestling. Punches landing, hard kicks to the body, KNEES to the head. They fought over the dragon suplex and the tiger suplex, they fought over the tombstone. These two wanted to HURT each other, they wanted to put the other one down for a decisive three (or tap). And neither was willing to concede anything for it.

It was good, maybe 4 star ish. But not a "5 star instant classic like the poor mans sean mooney Josh Matthews said.
