Loss
Talk about it here.
Loss
We get nearly 15 minutes of action and what we get is pretty great, with Muto focused on Tenryu’s knee and arm, and a hot final few minutes. I love Tenryu doing the superplex while locking his own legs in the turnbuckle so he doesn’t have to take the bump, a la Daniel Bryan in the Cena match at Summerslam last year. Tenryu gets a miracle kickout after a moonsault, which Muto sells great, and goes on to win the IWGP title!
Tim Evans
It's interesting reading old observers and hearing about Muto's knees being shot and then watching this. Good match with lots of bombs being thrown. Tenyru takes a dragon screw from the ring apron to the floor.Muto hits a moonsault but that's not enough. Tenyru looks like a video game boss that Muto is trying to take down. Crowd goes nuts for the finish.
Zenjo
JIP. A bit over half of the 26:32 was aired. It's annoying that the whole thing isn't around as what was shown was tremendous. A great World Title atmosphere as two legends collided. The changes in momentum were spot on and the result was in the balance. After a dramatic stretch Tenryu becomes the IWGP Champion for the first and only time in his career. In full this could've been a low end MOTYC. Or perhaps the JIPpage was beneficial? When rating incomplete matches you just have to make a judgement call.
tim
What we have here is really good. I'd be interested in seeing the whole match but even if the whole match were just a sprint of what we got here, it would have been damn good. Lots of intensity, hot crowd and a real feeling of a fight. Mutoh's Pele kick was cool.
PeteF3
Awesome war of attrition, with a total pro in Tenryu and Muto, regardless of his physical condition, being "on" this time. The psychology of the body parts is on-point, and so is the gradual selling of energy wasting away as more and more bombs are dropped and punches and kicks are thrown. Tenryu wins the IWGP title, and who would have thought that within the year he'd be contending for the Triple Crown, too!
