Beast
Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling begins from Sumter, South Carolina with Bob Caudle and David Crockett running down the day's card, with the two huge number one contender tag team matches of Taylor/Guerrero vs. The Vachons and The Fabulous Freebirds vs. the returning Midnight Express. They reveal that "Cowboy" Scott Casey will appear on Rogers Corner, The Iron Sheik will face Brad Rheingans and that Ric Flair, Terry Gordy, and Mr. Wrestling II will be in action. MATCH #1 Winner Faces Tag Team Champions At Halloween Havoc on 10/29 in Greensboro. The Fabulous Freebirds (Hayes & Roberts) vs. The Midnight Express (Condrey & Rose) (The Midnights make their return to the area following their impressive showing in the NWA World Tag Team Title tournament three months ago. Caudle & Crockett explain how the two tag matches tonight will determine the next two contenders to The Russians' tag titles with the winner of this match battling for the titles in Greensboro at the end of the month, while the winner of today's main event will get a title shot next week. Very fast-paced action right off the bat with all four men throwing in a mix of brawling and comedy to keep the crowd entertained. The Midnights bump around and have some miscommunication spots at the beginning, but after five minutes of Freebirds control, Roberts and Rose sail over the top together and Condrey heads outside to slam Roberts on the floor. The Midnights use frequent doubleteam moves, keeping Roberts looking for a tag for a solid seven minutes, until finally one last miscommunication spot give the Freebirds a chance to make the hot tag. Hayes comes in a house of fire with a plethora of closed fists, but is almost immediately cut off with a knee to the back by Condrey. As the Midnights send him into the ropes for a double flapjack, Roberts sneaks up behind Condrey and turns him around with a DDT causing Rose to lose concentration and also be spiked with a DDT by Hayes for the win and title shot at 14:33.) Terry Gordy heads out to celebrate with his partners as all three join Caudle & Crockett for a quick word. First, Hayes and Roberts give some praise to their opponents saying that while they have no doubt they'd also defeat The Russians, unfortunately, the title shot belongs to the Freebirds. Hayes says that for Halloween, the Freebirds will be wearing a "heart of gold" and then asks for highlights of his match with Harley Race to be shown. Over highlights of the very end (including Hayes getting fed up and punching referee Sandy Scott in the face), Hayes narrates and describes how close he came to becoming NWA World Heavyweight Champion. He challenges Race to be a real champion and face he and his brothers (and Ric Flair) and show whether he's a real champion or at least realize he's just an old-timer who's passed his prime. Gordy throws in a dig at Race too saying that today the MACW audience will see how a champion defends his title. The 'Birds end their interview time by saying whether it's Volkoff, Kruschev, Markoff, Koloff, Taylor, Guerrero, or The Vachons, two new belts will be joining the TV title at the end of the month. Before the Freebirds can leave, Ric Flair comes out and congratulates them on their tag and TV title success. He says that since they came to the Carolinas, he's had a ball teaming with them and even facing them on various shows and is thrilled they've been able to make a name for themselves in those divisions. He pats Hayes on the back and says he looked pretty great against the Champ and that maybe one day he'll have a big run, but for now it's time for "The Nature Boy" to kick things into gear. Hayes takes the compliment but says that while the 'Birds are rooting for him, they will be first in line once he's got the belt and that they can't promise to "play nice". An very quick icy stare finishes the segment as the 'Birds head to the back and Flair "Whoo's" and heads to the ring. MATCH #2 Ric Flair vs. Bob Bradley (Flair takes his time and enjoys the easier battle as a change of pace from his recent matches against Valentine, Funk, and Sheik. Bradley impresses with some nice athleticism, flipping out of a Flair backdrop to land on his feet, but a poke to the eye and chop after chop sends him to the corner where Flair goes to school with a hip toss followed by the Figure-Four Leglock for a submission win at 3:25.) After the break, Caudle & Crockett play some footage of the end of the Schultz-Sheik NWA US Title match from last Saturday, where things got out of control and both men were disqualified. NWA United States Champion "Dr. D" David Schultz joins them to reveal that he has agreed to one rematch with The Iron Sheik next week on TV, where he expects to end the Iranian's challenge for once and for all. Schultz stays at ringside to provide commentary for Sheik's match up next. MATCH #3 The Iron Sheik vs. Brad Rheingans (A surprisingly exciting match with the Greco-Roman wrestling stars showing up some little seen matwork in a MACW ring. Rheingans more than holds his own and matches Sheik takedown for takedown and throw for throw causing Schultz to roar with laughter on commentary and threaten to substitute Rheingans for Sheik in the title match next week. The tide turns when Sheik challenges Rheingans to a test of strength, only to kick him in the gut before the hands are locked. The control never changes from there as Sheik slaps on a Boston Crab, rocking back and forth only to let go once it's clear Rheingans won't submit. A belly-to-belly suplex leads to a gutbuster which in turn leads to the Camel Clutch and finally Rheingans gives up at 9:12. Sheik spits from the ring in Schultz's general direction but does not get into a physical confrontation.) Following the break, Mr. Wrestling II heads to the ring as Caudle & Crockett give some background on his legendary career, specifically his reputation in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. MATCH #4 Mr. Wrestling II vs. Tony Zane (Wrestling II is getting up there in years, but can still bring it in the ring, having no issue with Tony Zane, outwrestling him and finishing with a high knee in 2:03.) After the match, the cameras head straight to Buddy Rogers and his Rogers' Corner as he introduces the "undefeated" Scott Casey. In his usual uncouth manner, Casey talks himself and runs down the men he's defeated, including Joe Lightfoot, Billy Two Eagles, Chief Jay Strongbow, David Von Erich, The Tonga Kid, and surprisingly, Mr. Wrestling II! Casey claims that down in Louisiana he crashed another promotion's party and tore off Wrestling II's mask and revealed him for the yellow-bellied coward he really is. He says there's no difference between an "injun, islander, and masked freak" and that in the ring none can match up with a "real man". Stil at ringside, Wrestling II shoves his way past Buddy Rogers and confronts Casey who backs off claiming he's not dressed for a fight. Wrestling II grabs Rogers' mic and says that Casey is full of baloney and that not only did he survive Casey's bulldog and NOT get unmasked, but he PINNED Casey clean in the middle of the ring in front of 25,000 people! Casey starts yelling unmentionable words off-mic and throwing a tantrum, eventually getting in Wrestling II's face calling him a liar. Wrestling II doesn't back down and challenges Casey to a rematch next week on TV, giving him a chance to "save face and get his win back". Buddy Rogers finally chimes in, speaking directly to the live crowd, telling them not to believe "this masked man" and that all logical fans must know that Scott Casey has very obviously never lost in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. Casey accepts Wrestling II's challenge and says he almost feels sorry for him. Normally he'd beat him 1-2-3 nice and quick, but because of this incredible insult, he'll take his sweet time and in the end get the win and take that mask. MATCH #5 Chief Jay Strongbow/Billy Two Eagles/Joe Lightfoot vs. Tiger Williams/Rick Patterson/Doug Vines (The Native Americans get a rare chance to showcase their skills with even Strongbow showing fresh life here. Caudle explains that Eagles and Lightfoot couldn't overcome The Vachons a second time last Saturday night (thus getting overlooked for a number one contender's shot today), but looked more impressive than ever even in losing. Lots of chop-based action, but also some nice moments like stereo bow-and-arrow holds by all three N.A.'s and great Samoan Drop by Eagles on Vines. The match came to a close with a double top-rope standing chop to the head by Lightfoot and Eagles on Patterson with Strongbow getting the pin in 3:48.) Back from break, Caudle and Crockett recap the major happenings so far and reveal weekend main events of David Schultz & Michael Hayes vs. Nikolai Volkoff & The Iron Sheik, Ric Flair vs. Butcher Vachon, and The Tonga Kid vs. Scott Casey in Asheville, North Carolina that night and David Schultz vs. The Iron Sheik, Ric Flair vs. Scott Casey, and Terry Gordy vs. Mad Dog Vachon tomorrow night in Roanoke, Virginia. Crockett excitedly reminds fans that next week will see an unprecedented television program, with David Schultz hopefully bringing his battles with The Iron Sheik to a climax in a huge US title match, Scott Casey facing his biggest challenge in Mr. Wrestling II, and the winner of today's main event taking on The Russians in a big NWA World Tag Team Title match. MATCH #6 NWA WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP Terry Gordy © vs. Ben Alexander (It's Gordy's turn in the spotlight as he provides the unlucky Alexander with a big ol' beating. Gordy is in a great mood after disposing of Ivan Koloff and hits Alexander with moves like a running powerslam, a big high angle back suplex, and finally a running legdrop, putting Alexander out of his misery in 2:12.) Before the main event, Hector Guerrero & Terry Taylor stop by the booth for some pre-match thoughts. Guerrero grabs the mic first and apologizes to the fans for losing his temper last Saturday night as footage of the end of the Tag Title match from Greensboro plays. He says that the Guerrero temper is well-known to wrestlers in Mexico, but this was the first time MACW gained access to his short fuse and that he owes Terry Taylor too much in friendship to throw everything away after one heartbreaking loss. He holds out his hand and asks for a renewed pledge to be the best tag team in the NWA. Taylor eagerly accepts his hand, but says that for all he's concerned, Guerrero didn't do anything wrong. It was a tough loss and that he'd be more upset if Guerrero didn't care afterwards. He says to put all that behind them and aim to defeat The Vachons, The Russians, and The Freebirds to officially earn them the title of best tag team in wrestling. The two popular youngsters share a quick hug and head to the ring for their number one contender's match. MATCH #6 Winner Faces Tag Team Champions Next Week On TV The Vachons (Mad Dog & Butcher) vs. Terry Taylor & Hector Guerrero (A true battle as both teams were out to prove they were worthy of a shot at the tag belts. Guerrero and Taylor hit stereo dropkicks knocking The Vachons out of the ring to start off, right away proving that they're as great as ever. Back in the ring, Butcher was caught between the two high flyers as Guerrero got on his hands and knees behind him and Taylor hit him with the flying forearm, knocking him for a loop and causing him to roll outside again. The Vachon Brothers regrouped and came back in with renewed vigor, using their superior size, strength, and experience to slow things down. Cutting Guerrero off from his partner, they took turns clubbing him across the back and tossing him around the ring for a couple of close near falls. Guerrero dodged a Butcher splash in the corner and seemingly had a chance to tag out to Taylor, but chose to attempt a rolling clutch cradle on the big man instead leading him to be knocked inside out as Mad Dog rushed in with a lariat. Still he perservered, kicking out of Mad Dog's headbutt in a surprising show of endurance. He again had a chance to tag out after ducking out of the way of another Mad Dog clothesline, leading to a Vachon Brothers collision, but instead attempted a springboard clothesline only to be caught for a Mad Dog powerslam which was broken up at 2 3/4 by Taylor. Finally Taylor took it upon himself to drag Guerrero to the corner and tag himself in, nailing both Vachons with dropkicks and clotheslines, even lifting Mad Dog up for a gutwrench powerbomb for a close 2 count. The end came when Taylor came off the ropes for a flying forearm on Butcher, only for Guerrero to blind tag himself in and hit Mad Dog with a slingshot crossbody. Both men covered their opponents and picked up the win in 11:53.) The two weary victors raise their hands and show no signs of disharmony as Hector motions for the belts and the show goes off the air with Crockett screaming about the HUGE show next week with Casey vs. Wrestling II, Schultz vs. Sheik, and The Russians vs. Taylor & Guerrero. dawho5
I like the big tag matches bookending a squash-heavy show that gets everyone back in gear. At least Guerrero and Taylor didn't cost themselves with this most recent miscommunication.

Jesse Ewiak
- Love the slow, slow buildup to the Freebird-Flair situation exploding. I'm guessing it'll be shortly after Flair finally has the ten pounds of gold. - I'd expect the Freebird's to pick up the tag titles soon as well, especially since it'll be a small victory against the Russian's. - Yeah, why do I think Guerrero & Taylor are having a 'dead cat bounce' before the inevitable blowup? - Sheik-Schultz is either the end of Sheik in Mid-Atlantic, or the beginning of the Iranian title. - As usual, strong show even though I still think Scott Casey is still your best 'pure heel' and honestly, one of the better heels among all of us bookers. Beast
Thanks Jesse. You are on point with most of your thoughts and I agree about Casey. He is my favorite guy to write for (which came out of nowhere) and he may be getting a partner in crime soon.
Beast
Thursday October 6th 1983 MACW Television Taping from the Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia In the most important television show of 1983, Jim Crockett Promotions & Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling throw out all the stops with three king-sized matches! USA vs. Iran - NWA United States Champion David Schultz has never gotten along with The Iron Sheik and their battles reached a climax last month in Greensboro as they battled to a double disqualification. The Sheik still claims he will win the title and rechristen it the NWA Iran Championship and Schultz's hatred is so strong he's willing to give him another chance as these two titans battle for the title once more. Underdogs Have Their Day? - Hector Guerrero and Terry Taylor will unable to dethrone the three-headed Russian NWA Tag Team Champions last month and almost came to blows as a result. However, cooler heads prevailed and after an impressive win over the much larger Vachon brothers last week, the momentum is on their side. Will they be able to overcome the odds and upset whichever Russians choose to defend the prestigious Tag Team Titles? Or will their opposite "fire and ice" personalities finally prove too much for them? Cowboy vs. Legend - "Cowboy" Scott Casey has been undefeated on MACW television with wins over Joe Lightfoot, Billy Two Eagles, The Tonga Kid, and David Von Erich among others all the time talking himself up and spouting hateful rhetoric. Last week Mr. Wrestling II made his return to the Mid-Atlantic area and claimed to have defeated Casey on a show in Mid-South last month, causing Casey to angrily deny such an event took place. Today Wrestling II will have a chance to take Casey down (again?) with the greatest fans in the world watching every moment. Plus... All three Freebirds in singles action and on Rogers' Corner! To be aired on Saturday, October 8th.
Beast
I'm losing interest fast due to all the shakeups, lack of consistent posting by more than a few of us, as well as lack of feedback aside from dawho5 and a few others. But as I've got my year booked out, I'll continue to post streamlined shows, honor deals previously made, and make new deals as they come. And if I get a second wind by the end of "1983", I'll start to post more. As of now, I'm ignoring anything that doesn't directly influence MACW so if you need to contact me, PM. Saturday October 8th 1983 MACW TV Airing Michael Hayes defeated Tony Zane in a squash with the DDT. NWA Tag Team Titles - Nikolai Volkoff and Krusher Kruschev defeated Hector Guerrero and Terry Taylor when Guerrero turned on Taylor leading the Russians to hit Lenin's Tomb for the win. Taylor and Guerrero seemed to be on the same page, but after Taylor hit Kruschev with a flying forearm and tried to go for the pin, Guerrero jumped on him with a huge Frog Splash. Sneering in disgust, he spit at Taylor and left the ring as the Russians took over. Crockett and Caudle discussed this shocking turn of events while Doug Vines made a rare speaking appearance to introduce his great friend and partner in "The Devil's Duo", Jeff Sword to the MACW audience. NWA TV Title - Terry Gordy defeated Jeff Sword with a powerbomb very easily. Rogers Corner - The Freebirds discussed the shocking Guerrero turn and stated they guaranteed they left Halloween Havoc with the gold. Gordy also declared his annoyance with lack of TV title competition and threw out an open challenge to any wrestler in "these here United States, Mexico, or Japan" to challenge him anytime anywhere. Hayes and Rogers didn't get along well, but both were civil and Harley Race's name was only briefly brought up. Scott Casey defeated Mr. Wrestling II when Dutch Mantell debuted and nailed Wrestling II with the handle of a bullwhip to the back of the head allowing Casey to grab a pin. Casey and Dutch hit the announce booth to celebrate and Casey introduced Dutch as another "real man who don't need to hide his face behind a mask" and said that together they'd run ramshod over Mid-Atlantic and stay undefeated. This brought out Ric Flair who challenged Casey to a fight next week, on TV with his undefeated televised streak on the line. Casey and Dutch hemmed and hawed until Flair called Casey "yellow" and Dutch took it upon himself to accept the match for Casey. Buddy Roberts defeated Tiger Williams with a small package. Crockett and Caudle ran over the weekend's cards. On Saturday MACW takes over Baltimore with a huge card featuring the just made main event of Ric Flair vs. Hector Guerrero and Sunday in Charlotte is headlined by The Russians vs. Hayes and Schultz for the Tag Titles. MAIN EVENT NWA United States Title - The Iron Sheik defeated David Schultz to win the title. Sheik and Schultz brawled around ringside after trading punches and suplexes for the majority of the match. With the referee distracted by the Sheik climbing back into the ring, all three Russians ran out and attacked Schultz, nailing him with a spike piledriver on the floor. Volkoff rolled him back in and Sheik put the unconscious champion into the Camel Clutch and the ref counted him out to give Sheik the title. The show ended with The Russians and The Iron Sheik celebrating at the announce booth holding the Tag Titles and US Title.
LowBlowPodcast
I don't mind the steam lined show as sometimes this is the best way to present a product.I think we all saw Guerreros' actions coming but it doesn't take away. A red hot feud coming off that angle... could be huge.I love the Casey and Wrestling 2 stuff. A feud felt all over the south and hopefully on the main stage soon.I like the transition for Schultz to the russians. It gives the US title some good cred and there is a host of new competitors now.Streamlined Macw is good as things continue to go in the right direction. dawho5
So much good stuff. Casey and Dutch! Schultz is going to be a great opponent for the Russians, but how focused cna he be on them with his title in the evil clutches of the Sheik? And that Taylor-Guerrero feud is going to be something else. I hope your interest comes back because I think you have one of the srongest promotions left running. Super Stan
Nothing wrong with a streamlined version. Might get you more looks (and hopefully comments). Losing interest is a killer as it becomes a chore but I hope you stick with it. Good stuff going on here with a very solid roster to work with. Beast
Thanks. It has already been beneficial since I haven't had to do any real work throughout the week on this. Beast
Saturday October 15th 1983 MACW TV Airing Bob and David start off by sadly introducing the new United States Champion, The Iron Sheik! NWA United States Title - The Iron Sheik squashes Bob Bradley and makes him submit to the Camel Clutch Buddy Rogers comes out with Volkoff, Markoff, & Kruschev to officially announce that the Iron Sheik has rechristened his title, the NWA Iran Championship. All five men make a huge deal of "presenting" Sheik with the belt. The belt has a picture of the Iranian flag taped over the front. Sheik says he proved Schultz was a prime of example of all Americans, in that when the going got tough, he rolled over and played dead. Blackjack Mulligan made his return to the Mid-Atlantic area and explained that he had heard Jim Crockett Promotions was where "the big boys play" and figured he might as well join in against the best competition in the wrestling world, including his longtime pal Ric Flair. But he said his first focus was helping a mighty impressive youngster, the Tonga Kid, in his battles against a couple of wimpy boys playing dress up as cowboys, Scott Casey and Dutch Mantell. Tonga Kid & Blackjack Mulligan defeated Tony Zane & Tiger Williams when Mulligan pinned Williams following a diving headbutt from Tonga Kid on Williams with a big splash. Dutch Mantell & Scott Casey briefly made fun of the "washed up" Mr. Wrestling II before mentioning that the overweight slob of a tramp Blackjack Mulligan fell in that category too. Mantell then wildly proclaimed that Casey would continue his winning streak today against Ric Flair. Dutch Mantell defeated Rudy Diamond with a roll-up full of tights. Following the match he kicked Diamond in the head and left him laying. NWA Television Title - Terry Gordy defeated Butcher Vachon with a high angle back suplex. Vachon had a hard time with the even bigger Gordy and Gordy's power moves looked crisp and smooth against the big veteran. Rogers Corner - Buddy Rogers welcomed Hector Guerrero to congratulate him on making the best decision of his career last week when he turned on Terry Taylor. Guerrero's cockiness was turned up a notch as he ran down Taylor for being a piece of dead weight he was almost able to drag to a major national championship before realizing he could do better. Rogers ran down the history of the Guerrero name, mentioning his father Gory and brothers Mando and Chavo, making sure to mention how impressed he and World Heavyweight Champion Harley Race were with Chavo's title challenge a month ago. Hector said his family is made up of warriors and conquerors and that it's time to show what he can really do. Hector Guerrero defeated Ben Alexander with the Frog Splash. Bob and David went nuts over seeing the move for the second week in the row, but chastised Guerrero for drawing out the beating he gave Alexander and for his arrogant nature. After the match, Hector picked up Alexander and put him in the Gory Special backbreaker, but quickly dropped him and ran off as Terry Taylor ran in for the save. Terry Taylor gave a quick promo declaring revenge on Guerrero. NWA World Tag Team Titles - The Russians (Volkoff & Kruschev) defeated The Devil's Duo (Jeff Sword & Doug Vines) when Kruschev pinned Vines with Lenin's Tomb. All three Russians again gave congratulations to their ally, the Iron Sheik and Volkoff in particular, said some insulting words about David Schultz. Kruschev added that with all three Russians laying claim to the titles, there was no way the Freebirds would stand a chance in Greensboro at Halloween Havoc. Bob and David ran down the weekend's major matches with Ric Flair taking on rising star Hector Guerrero in Hampton, Virginia the night of Saturday the 15th and Iron Sheik defending his new belt against Terry Gordy in Roanoke, Virginia on Sunday the 16th. Also announced was a big six-man tag for next week with Terry Taylor, Tonga Kid, and Blackjack Mulligan taking on Hector Guerrero and The Vachons. Ric Flair came out for a brief pre-match promo declaring that Scott Casey had finally drawn the short straw. He also added that he was getting impatient waiting to find out who was next in Rogers and Race's Gauntlet, hypothesizing that perhaps they'd run out of challengers and were just trying to delay the inevitable title change. At this, Buddy Rogers came out and yelled that he'd be bringing the next man next week and that he would be the last because there is no way Flair will be able to get by him. MAIN EVENT Ric Flair defeated Scott Casey by making him submit to the Figure-Four leglock. Casey tried to intimidate Flair as the match began, but Flair wasted no time in laying him out with chops. Casey did look mighty impressive throughout most of the match, really taking it to Flair with hard punches and almost getting the victory with a surprise high knee (stolen from Mr. Wrestling II?), but once Flair kicked out, the tide started to change. At the end, Flair dodged Casey's bulldog, letting him fall to the mat on his back and quickly slapped on the Figure-Four. Mantell tried grabbing Casey's arms to bring him to the ropes, but Tommy Young kicked his hands away, leaving Casey to submit after thirty seconds for his first televised loss The show went off the air with Dutch and Casey almost in tears as Flair triumphantly walked to the back. dawho5
I have this feeling Tonga Kid is going to get backstabbed by Mulligan. The Russians and the Sheik seem like they have a lot going for them right now, but I think they will get theirs.
LowBlowPodcast
I like the faster pace television show. Easier to read and somewhat easier to understand. You've got a ton of foundational pieces set. My only gripe would be Casey going down clean, but he's going down to Flair, which isn't a bad thing at all. Casey is a commodity right now and he's on the edge of becoming something more than he's ever been in MACW, I am interested to see how you develop him more in the future. Plus we've got the Iron Sheik coming up and like you said for JYD, Flair has got a lot of great competitors coming up.
Beast
Yeah, I made the decision Casey will be losing, but only to the tip-top names and only in a way that is going to further his story. Believe me when I say the loss to Flair (and whomever else he loses to before 1984) will play a big role in his placement next year.

Beast
Saturday October 22nd 1983 MACW TV Airing Bob and David start off by running down today's show, which will have the Freebirds in action, a TV title match, a US title match, and the reveal of Harley Race's next Gauntlet opponent for Ric Flair on Rogers' Corner. Terry Taylor, The Tonga Kid, and Blackjack Mulligan defeated Hector Guerrero, Mad Dog Vachon, and Butcher Vachon when Guerrero rolled out of the ring and was counted out following a Taylor flying forearm. Mulligan and Kid looked impressive against the Vachons with Kid almost getting a pin on Butcher following a Rocket Launcher. Taylor stopped by the announce table on his way to the back and declared that he wouldn't rest until he pinned Guerrero in the middle of the ring 1-2-3 and that he had signed to face him in Greensboro next Saturday night. The Iron Sheik came out for his title defense but first stopped to show off his NWA Iran Title, run down America, and insult former champion David Schultz, claiming he ran him out of MACW. NWA Iran (United States) Title - The Iron Sheik defeated Billy Two Eagles by making him submit to the Camel Clutch. As Sheik posed to the cameras, David Schultz ran in and nailed Sheik from behind with a clothesline knocking him up and over the top rope to the floor. Sheik stumbled to the dressing room while referees Tommy Young and Sonny Fargo, as well as enhancement talent Bob Bradley and Ben Alexander, held Schultz back. David Schultz, still full of pent-up rage and frustration, stopped by the announce table to cut a promo on Sheik and the Russians, ranting about how he was tired of these damn foreign powers keeping the NWA titles hostage. He claimed Sheik was ducking him and refusing to grant him a rematch so he'd he'd been on the phone to Florida and that he'd found the perfect opponent for Sheik. In the meantime, he'd "settle" for Volkoff, Markoff, or Kruschev in Greensboro. Buddy Roberts & Michael Hayes defeated Tony Zane & Tiger Williams with stereo DDT's and a double pin by each Freebird. All three Freebirds joined Bob & David to build up their matches in Greensboro for Halloween Havoc. Hayes started by agreeing with "Dr. D" that the Russians and Iron Sheik need to be stopped but reminded him that the Freebirds had reservations on at least two of the Russians and their tag belts at the big show. He and his brothers had been in many matches with the Russians in the past four months and promised those belts would end up where they belong next Saturday night. Gordy joined in to voice his support and then reiterated his open challenge from a few weeks ago. He said he was about to step in the ring with that "devil" Jeff Sword, but provided he got through that with his title intact, he still had no opponent for Greensboro. At this, David Crockett stepped in and revealed his brother had heard Gordy's request for competition and had used his position as NWA President to begin talks with other promotions around the country, looking for a youngster who deserves a chance at glory. He mentioned Rick Martel from Toronto, Curt Hennig from Florida, Koko B Ware from Chicago, and Tito Santana from Dallas as possible TV title challengers, with the final decision revealed next week. NWA Television Title - Terry Gordy defeated Jeff Sword with ease pinning him with a powerbomb. Scott Casey and Dutch Mantell came out rant and rave about Flair's "fluke" win over Casey last week. Apparently Flair was a yellow coward who let the referees do his fighting for him, as evidenced by Tommy Young kicking Casey last week at the end of the match. Casey said he thought about filing a complaint, but decided that a real man doesn't whine and that he'd instead focus on getting revenge on that "dirty dog" Ric Flair down the line. Mantell added that as far as he's concerned, they are both still undefeated and would remain so until someone pinned either of them clean in the middle of the ring without any "shenanigans". In the meantime, they'd continue to prove why they are the toughest wrestlers in the NWA. Scott Casey and Dutch Mantell defeated Bob Bradley and Ben Alexander when Casey pinned Bradley after a bulldog. Bob and David ran down the weekend's major matches with Ric Flair and Terry Gordy teaming to take on the Russians in a non-title contest in Greenville, South Carolina the night of Saturday the 22nd and Flair teaming with the other members of the Freebirds, Hayes and Roberts to take on Krusher Kruschev and The Vachons in Columbia, South Carolina on the 23rd. Also announced were two big matches for next week's TV, David Schultz vs. Krusher Kruschev and The Freebirds vs. The Vachons. Rogers Corner - Buddy Rogers was bursting with excitement and could barely wait to reveal Harley Race's next handpicked opponent for Ric Flair, but was willing to wait until Flair himself joined him. Flair came out a bit more subdued than usual and invited Rogers to bring out the next guy, whoever it may be. Flair reminded Rogers that he'd taken down Terry Funk and Greg Valentine already, plus held pinfall victories over The Iron Sheik and Scott Casey, and had Race ready to submit back in August, so there was no one alive in the wrestling world today who could stop Flair from taking back that belt. With a huge smile, Buddy Rogers announced that Race was willing to meet Flair halfway in Greensboro, challenging him to a tag team match where if Flair got a pinfall or submission victory over either of his opponents, he would finally receive a single title shot. However, if Flair was unable to pick up the victory himself, he would never get a title shot ever again, as long as Race was NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Flair welcomed the opportunity and asked who the partners would be. Rogers shared that Flair would be able to choose anyone he wanted because no matter who it was, they'd be no help against the first half of Race's handpicked team, Stan Hansen! With that, Stan Hansen stormed onto the set, swinging his bull rope, knocking chairs and tables over, and got straight in Flair's face, almost pushing him backward due to his intensity. But Flair pushed right back and yelled about not wanting to wait, challenging Hansen to match right now. MAIN EVENT Ric Flair and Stan Hansen battled to a no-contest as the show ran out of time without a winner being named. During the match, Flair tried valiantly to give anything Hansen threw at him right back, Hansen's power and seemingly superhuman stamina and toughness eventually proved to be too much, peppering Flair with one hard punch after enough. He took Flair down with a big back suplex, followed by a DDT for a very close two count, before hitting a big powerbomb which didn't get the win only because Flair had the presence of mind to roll outside. Bob Caudle noted that Hansen had just used some of the Freebirds' favorite moves and wondered if they'd have anything to say about that. Flair took his time getting back in the ring and was able to hit Hansen with a low blow before being hit again. Flair hit Hansen with one chop after another, driving him back to the corner, but Hansen pushed Flair off causing him to take a bump. Flair got back up and chopblocked Hansen in the back of his right leg, causing the big Texan to fall to one knee and Flair was able to take him down with a snapmare. Flair worked on the leg for a while, but when going for the FIgure-Four, Hansen was able to push him off with force. Flair ran right back and hit a big running knee drop to Hansen's forehead, but that only got two. Near the end, Flair went up top but was thrown off to the mat below. However, when Hansen ran towards Flair, Flair was able to duck and hit a quick backdrop knocking Hansen over the top to the floor. The referee declared it unintentional and let the match continue, but Flair was so worn out he was unable to take advantage of Hansen being outside, instead choosing to regain his energy. Back in, the men exchanged punches and chops with Flair somehow able to back Hansen into the corner again. He tried whipping him towards the opposing corner, but Hansen reversed sending Flair up and over the turnbuckle, landing on his feet on the apron. As Flair ran towards Hansen, Hansen ran right back and nailed Flair with a huge Lariat, almost causing him to do a backward flip as he fell to the arena floor. With Hansen himself down to one knee and Flair knocked for a loop on the floor, the referee began to count, but the show went off the air with him only up to 5 as Bob & David thanked the fans for watching and promised to show whatever happens on next week's show. rainmakerrtv
Great stuff, as always. Love the angle with Sheik and Schultz.
dawho5
Schultz is going to get his title back, I can feel it. It's gonna take a while though. Flair agreeing to the stip before he knew all the details was an interesting choice. I'm wondering if Rogers sticks around once Flair is the champ. The Birds aren't quite ready to dethrone the Russians, but I think they'll give them a scare. Guerrero and Taylor is going to be a fun feud. Beast
Edited the show a little because I realized I had messed up dates with Race being in AJPW during the Greensboro show. I had originally booked Flair/Partner vs. Hansen/Partner, but I must have lost something in the process because I accidentally said it would be Flair/Partner vs Hansen/Race. Segment was retaped to air Saturday correctly.

Beast
Saturday October 29th 1983 MACW TV Airing Bob and David start off by running down today's show, which will have a rundown of tonight's card for Halloween Havoc in Greensboro, David Schultz taking on Krusher Kruschev, The Freebirds facing The Vachons and a huge main event of Terry Gordy defending the NWA Television Title against Stan Hansen. They also make the major announcement that a number of the NWA's top wrestlers from Florida will be wrestling tonight in Greensboro and have sent in taped footage for the show today. They then reveal that Ric Flair did in fact, get counted out against Stan Hansen last week after sustaining a lariat on the apron. They wonder whether Flair has any chance to defeat Hansen and his yet to be revealed partner at Halloween Havoc. The Tonga Kid and Blackjack Mulligan defeated Tony Zane and Tiger Williams with a Rocket Launcher ending with a Kid flying headbutt on Zane. "Dr. D" David Schultz came out to introduce who he'd found to challenge The Iron Sheik for the NWA United States Title in Greensboro. A video played from "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, who said that in a strange turn of events, this time the doctor was calling him. He was excited to take on that no-good rascal, that damn dirty Iron Sheik and promised to give Schultz a rematch as soon as possible if he won tonight. Krusher Kruschev defeated David Schultz after Schultz was hit with a chair from behind by Nikolai Volkoff, knocking him right into a Russian Sickle by Kruschev. Kruschev, Volkoff, and Markoff continued to attack Schultz after the match, ending with a Lenin's Tomb by Kruschev/Markoff and Volkoff laying the Soviet flag over a prone Schultz before heading to the back. Hector Guerrero stopped by the announce table to vent about the past month and his current issues with Terry Taylor. He claimed that growing up as a member of the Guerrero family, he was taught to be a warrior in the ring, to be intense and show how much you want it. He said Taylor was an "iceman" and that their car rides from town to town were as dull as anything Hector ever experienced. Hector knew that to achieve success and gold in the NWA, you need to be willing to do anything, even skirt outside the rules from time to time, but as it was obvious Taylor never wanted the tag titles as much as Hector did, it was time to drop the dead weight and find someone with the same level of fire. At this Taylor came out to confront Guerrero, but before he could open his mouth, Hector slapped him in the face and ran away before Taylor could react. Bob Caudle asked him for a response and Taylor merely said he'd let his actions in the ring speak for themselves. Terry Taylor defeated Ben Alexander with the flying forearm. The Freebirds came out for some interview time before their matches against The Vachons and Hansen. Hayes started things off to reiterate that he and brother Buddy Jack would soon join Bam Bam in the champions circle after they beat The Russians once and for all in Greensboro. He mentioned that The Russians usually enjoy the same advantage as The Freebirds in having three wrestlers to fill two slots, but that because Nikolai Volkoff is signed to face David Schultz, he and Roberts were able to prepare to face Krusher Kruschev and Chris Markoff. Gordy joined in to voice his support and then asked David Crockett who his opponent would be at Halloween Havoc. Crockett revealed that his brother had been in talks with many of the NWA promotions and had determined that none other than Florida's Curt Hennig would receive the title shot in Greensboro, but only if Gordy can get by Stan Hansen today. If Stan Hansen were to win the TV title, Gordy would still face Hennig to determine his number one contender. The Freebirds (Michael Hayes and Buddy Roberts) defeated Mad Dog & Butcher Vachon when Hayes pinned Butcher following a DDT. Scott Casey and Dutch Mantell came out in preparation for their match against frequent Casey foes, Joe Lightfoot and Billy Two Eagles, but stopped at the booth to say that they feel they've more than proven their worth and once they defeat those damn injuns again, they should be looking at a future NWA World Tag Team Titles shot very soon. Casey also took the time to run down David Schultz, The Freebirds, and Terry Taylor, claiming he's embarrassed to be in a promotion where they are thought of as "tough guys". Mantell threw in a few words about Ric Flair, only for Casey to angrily cut him off and yell about how he doesn't want to hear anything about that "pretty boy", especially after he used his pull with the Crocketts to ensure he got an unfair win of Casey two weeks ago. Scott Casey and Dutch Mantell defeated Joe Lightfoot and Billy Two Eagles after Mantell distracted the referee and Eagles allowing Casey to nail Lightfoot from behind with a low blow to set up a bulldog for the pin. The Southerners tossed the losing team out of the ring after the match to the jeers of the crowd. Rogers Corner - On a special videotaped episode, Buddy Rogers is joined by Harley Race and Stan Hansen for the reveal of who Flair's final opponent will be. They talk about how Hansen defeated Flair with ease last week on TV and yet Flair must get a pin or submission in his match against Hansen and his partner in order to get that final title shot at NWA World Champion Harley Race. With that Rogers introduces none other than Kevin Sullivan as Hansen's partner! Sullivan shakes each man's hand and expresses great joy in being able to play a part in the final downfall of Ric Flair. The four men laugh as the tape ends. MAIN EVENT NWA Television Title - Terry Gordy and Stan Hansen battled to a double disqualification after almost fifteen minutes of non-stop action. It started with an intense staredown as the announcers built this up as Terry Gordy's greatest challenge of his entire career. Hansen controlled the early portion, overwhelming the less experienced Freebird with punches and kicks without rest. However, Gordy was able to take everything Hansen threw at him and return in kind, eventually knocking the Texan for a loop with his own big clothesline. From there on, the two giants traded suplexes and slams, neither getting more than a two count. In the end, Hansen was able to backdrop Gordy out of a powerbomb attempt, only for Gordy to duck when attempting his lariat. The two monsters went at it with fists flying everywhere and ended up knocking the ref clear out of the ring for a Double DQ. Officials and Hayes & Roberts all came down to break the match up, with Gordy staying champion and Hansen still looking unstoppable going into Halloween Havoc. The show ended with Tony Schiavone in the ring to run down Halloween Havoc's lineup, only for David Crockett to interrupt him in order to play a video message that had just been dropped off to the studio, courtesy of Ric Flair. In the video, Ric Flair spoke of how he realized his match in Greensboro may be the most important of his life and that he had to find someone he could trust to both be a strong partner as well as allow him to get the final pin or submission. With that said, he introduced his old friend Roddy Piper as his choice of partner with Piper coming on screen for a big handshake. Piper told Flair that he's with him 100 percent and that he can't wait to knock Stan Hansen silly, but that Flair knows better than anyone that once that bell rings, anything can happen so there are no promises about who gets the pinfall. Flair said he understood, but that'd he have to warn Piper that any funny business will lead to a major problem between the two of them. Piper laughed it off and said either way, he's ready for a fight. Back to the studio, Tony Schiavone was able to run down the full card for Greensboro. Halloween Havoc October 29th, 1983 Ric Flair/Roddy Piper vs. Stan Hansen/Kevin Sullivan If Ric Flair gets the pinfall or submission, he gets a title shot at Harley Race. Otherwise, he never gets a shot ever again. NWA United States (Iran) Title - The Iron Sheik vs. Dusty Rhodes NWA Television Title - Terry Gordy vs. Curt Hennig NWA World Tag Team Titles - The Russians (Kruschev/Markoff) vs. The Freebirds (Hayes/Roberts) "Dr. D" David Schultz vs. Nikolai Volkoff Terry Taylor vs. Hector Guerrero The Tonga Kid/Blackjack Mulligan vs. The Vachons Scott Casey/Dutch Mantell in action
