Kris & David are joined by Jordan Breen (Sherdog) to discuss the week that was January 19-25, 1998. We discuss Hulk Hogan/WWF rumors that were running rampant, lots of WCW shows proper, AJPW/WWF business relations growing, NJPW contract season, Antonio Pena suing everybody, ECW/WWF business relations growing, Bobo Brazil’s death, and the mass hysteria surrounding the Steve Austin/Mike Tyson angle…a extremely fun show!!!!!!!!

2:24:35 Mexico: AAA, EMLL, & Promo Azteca

Still listening to the cast but had to comment on the WCW lucha tapings in Waco. I was at the tapings, which went pretty long but got over well with the live crowd. The attendance wasn't great from what I remember but it was a fun night overall and a few of the matches were okay. I remember Parka being over like a sumbitch.

Really good show! One question, hopefully not a massive downer: this is the one where Bix makes reference to the "dearly departed" Kevin Cook, right? Did Cook literally leave this mortal coil, or was it just in reference to him not posting anywhere anymore? Dude was a GOAT-contender on wrestling message boards in my opinion, so I did a double take when I heard it.

A reference to him being wherever he is. And maybe not being an actual person. But not dead.

I'm about halfway through this one. It's been fun so far, but I think Breen might have gone a little far in his Old People Rant. Zbyszko as the only person making saves against the NWO was obviously a mistake but he connected to the crowd. I'd argue that he connected more easily and more naturally than the lucha six-eight mans that got so much praise on the show. Some of that was WCW's follow through, but on the idea that their follow through was going to be equally bad for everything, the Larry Legend stuff had an easier hurdle to leap over. Even the Dusty turn could have been hugely enjoyable since it was twenty years since he'd been heel and the promos alone could have been amazing but it was all lost in the mess that was WCW. I think blatant, across the board, ageism isn't the way to look back at this stuff.
