sek69
In the middle of listening to this now, and it's just crushing to hear how both Nancy and Chris were just devastated at the string of wrestler deaths that happened in the months leading up to their tragedy. Jericho relating the story of Chris bawling like a baby who doesn't want to be separated from his mother at Eddie's funeral was just gut wrenching. Both share tales of the guy they knew before things got all crazy, and Sandra talks about how winning the title at WM caused Chris to put more pressure on himself and made it harder for the family to be able to go out in public as easily as they could before. We'll never know the full story of course, but so far she's the closest thing we'll probably get to knowing what led to everything happening. Johnny P
Some questions, Sek: What is this about? Seems like Benoit stuff, but I don't want to presume its not part of a larger narrative. so....AKA - Where did this happen/take place, who is the woman, how are you "listening" to this? Ther basic info. Thanks EDIT: Nevermind. I'm not someone whop plays attention to or acknowledges Jericho's existence, so I didn't realize/remember he has a podcast, and the name was in the subject of your post (I glanced and thought it said that woman talked to Jericho, as a statement of fact. lol)
El-P
Fascinating listen.
sek69
It feels weird saying it was a great podcast considering the subject matter, but it was two people who knew him the most in and out of the business having a frank talk about the man they knew before everything happened. GSR
I'm not a regular listener of Jericho's podcast (it all depends on the guest) but this really was an excellent podcast. If you've a long commute, or a couple of hours of work to do and want something to listen to, this comes with the highest of recommendations. Also the idea of Nancy doing Jim Barnett impressions (and then imagining her doing them) just sets me off laughing every time!
WingedEagle
Finished it this morning and it was an incredible. Harrowing and fascinating. For those that think they don't want to ever see or hear anything Benoit-related, that's me. No interest in looking back on the Observers or anything else written about the tragedy. Zero need to watch any matches or think about this story at all. That being said, this offers a unique perspective that is worth hearing. El-P
Also the idea of Nancy doing Jim Barnett impressions (and then imagining her doing them) just sets me off laughing every time! Yeah, that cracked me up too. Sandra was so level headed in how she portrayed Benoit too, as she said, you just can't erase a decade of loving relationship no matter what (and still, she insisted on the fact her sister was *brutally* murdered). Such a tragic and surreal story, I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like being in her boots, and still she showed so much intelligence and sensitivity talking about everything. The way all the deaths one after another slowly killed Benoit's spirit, probably playing a big role into him going insane, was heartbreaking, as was Jericho's story about Eddie's burial. Nancy seemed like such a sweetheart of a woman. I really like how Jericho conducted the "interview", basically letting Sandra talk and only chiming in from time to time with relevant points and stories. Not an "fun" listen, but the best one about the story since, well, his podcast with Chavo a few years back. Can't believe it's been 9 years already. Bix
As seriously flawed Jericho of as a personality and podcaster, he has some of the very best pro wrestling podcast episodes in the history of the medium. This, the 25 anniversary spectacular, the Chavo show, etc.
