Lance and Dave welcomes everyone to another week of CWA Championship Wrestling. He brings out Jerry Jarrett.

Memphis111862.jpg

JerryJarrett.jpg

Jarrett says that the CWA will be expanding further into Alabama and Mississippi and will be running 'Southeastern Championship Wrestling' shows each Wednesday in Birmingham, Alabama beginning Wed. August 1st at the Boutwell Auditorium. He says the Southeastern Champion 'Nature Boy' Buddy Landel will be debuting here today and next week Saturday the Southeastern Tag Team Champions The Rock & Roll Express will be making their debut in the CWA. Lance agrees this exciting news. Jarrett says that Charlie Platt and Joe Pedicino will be hosting a Southeastern television show featuring highlights from this show and the arena matches in Birmingham.

Opening match- Hillbilly Jim/Plowboy Frazier beat Carl Fergie/Keith Eric when Jim pinned Eric after a 'big boot'

Memphis148699.jpg

Lawler comes out and is still furious about late week's chain match with Tommy Rich. He said he wants Rich in the ring this week and he wants to end this once and for all! Jerry Jarrett comes back out and informs 'the King' that this week will be the 'Final Battle' in Memphis between Lawler and Rich. The match will be contested in a Steel Cage for the USWA World Title and Idol will be barred from the building, if he shows his face in the arena during this match he will be fined and suspended. Lawler says that's perfect as far as he is concerned and he plans to injure Rich and send him back to the USWA in an ambulance. The King storms off.

Second match- Southeastern Champion 'Nature Boy' Buddy Landel pinned David Haskins following a 'corkscrew elbow'

Buddy.jpg

Landel joins Lance Russell and tells everyone "Do not adjust your television sets, I really am this handsome." He goes on to say that he's wrestling's biggest star and that he's Ric Flair's hero. Landel says Monday night Memphis gets to see what he's all about when he beats Brad Armstrong and remains the Southeastern champion!

(Highlight video airs featuring Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson: The Rock & Roll Express in various matches from Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling)

(A VTR is shown of Austin Idol and his manager Johnny V talking about Idol's Southern Title defense this week against Bill Dundee…..Idol says Dundee isn't in his league and he will humiliate him in front of all his fans in Memphis. Then he's gonna leave the building and go party on Beale Street because Tommy Rich doesn't need anyone's help to beat Lawler and take the USWA World Title)

Third match- "Superstar" Bill Dundee pinned The Inferno after a 'Bombs Away' splash off the top rope

Memphis118864.jpg

Dundee tells Dave Brown that he is going to leave the Mid South Coliseum on Monday night as the new Southern Heavyweight Champion and if Johnny V gets involved he's got a special surprise for him…..as Dundee leaves, "The Fallen Angel" Woman brings out the team of Lord Humongous/Leatherface….as they get into the ring….Woman tells Lance that her MONSTERS will destroy the Fabulous Ones and send them out of the CWA once and for all!

CWA continues to roll along and I like seeing the difference between Lawler here and Lawler in USWA. It is a great use of him as a worker and character. I think you have got some serious contenders coming up through the rankings and still think there is huge future with your recent signings of the Rock n Roll, Dundee, Landell, and even Adrian Street who will all prove to be special and valuable members of the roster.

Gosh you have formed a great Memphis roster here. I think this is the most authentic roster we have. I am interested in seeing Brad and Bob do work with Lawler, Dutch, and Dundee along with the Rock N Roll Express. It is a very powerful group of babyfaces and the heels can come in and out with no questions asked. Great stuff.

WMC TV-5 Studios

Memphis, TN.

Saturday July 14, 1984

Airing Live 11am cst- 12:30pm cst on WMC TV-5 and on tape throughout the territory on various stations.

(Various highlights are shown from last Monday night ending with Lawler pinning Tommy Rich in their 'final battle' in the Steel Cage)

Memphis14863.jpg

Memphis1188634.jpg

Lance and Dave welcome everyone to the show and talk about the huge day in store including a huge main event that will take place today in the studio. We will also see the debut of Ricky and Robert, the Rock & Roll Express, and we'll hear from the NWA World Heavyweight Champion 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair.

JohnnyV.jpg

Johnny V comes out to the desk and announces that he is now the manager of the hottest commodity in professional wrestling…Austin Idol and Buddy Landel- THE DREAM TEAM!! Idol and Landel make their way out to the desk. Idol has the Southern title belt draped over his shoulder and says that rumor has it that Dundee and Brad Armstrong have demanded a 'Southern Streetfight' against the Dream Team this Monday in Memphis and the bad news is they have accepted. Landel chimes in that they are gonna regret this and they should beware of what they ask for because now they are getting it! Johnny V interjects that we will get to see the Dream Team in action today a little later on so prepare ourselves for greatness.

First match- "Dirty" Dutch Mantell pinned Keith Eric after a short arm clothesline

Dutch comes over to the desk still enraged about last Monday night….he says that the Honky Tonk Man had the audacity to whip him with his own whip, 'Shoobaby'. Mantell says now the TV title is secondary to "teaching this clown a lesson", Monday night they will meet in a 'No Ropes Bullwhip Match' and HTM will know his place after Monday night!

dutchpose.jpg

COMMERCIAL

Second match- Southeastern Tag Champions The Rock & Roll Express defeated Carl Fergie/The Inferno when Gibson pinned Inferno after a double drop kick

RocknRoll84.jpg

Morton/Gibson join Lance at the desk, Morton says they've competed against some of the top tag teams across the country and now they are here to defend the Southeastern Tag Team titles and to earn a shot at the World Tag Team Champions….and hopefully at some point they will get a chance to face the so-called 'Dream Team'!

Jerry Jarrett comes out and says he's excited to announce that this Monday night….the biggest match in pro wrestling is going to take place when the current USWA World Champion Jerry 'the King' Lawler will defend against the current NWA World Champion 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair in a Unification Match, when this match ends there will be one true World Heavyweight Champion. Lance says we have a video from the NWA champion to look at right now.

(VTR- NWA World Champion Ric Flair)

Flair83.jpg

Flair says that as the one and only true World Champion in wrestling, he is offended that Jerry Jarrett would insinuate that the belt Lawler is wearing is even in the same league as the one and only true World Championship, the NWA World Title. He says he's going to come to Memphis this Monday night and put an end to the controversy once and for all and when he beats and humiliates Jerry Lawler, some lucky fan will go home with that "useless piece of scrap metal" they call the USWA 'World' Title.

We return and Jerry Lawler has joined Jarrett and Lance. Lawler says he used to belittle the USWA title at one time but having held the title and seen the grueling schedule and stiff world class competition he's had to face he has a whole new respect and regard for the USWA World Championship and he says after he gets done with Flair and takes the NWA belt from him….Flair will have a whole new respect for it as well!

Woman comes out and lets Dave Brown know that she's given her monsters the day off to get ready for this Monday night when they defend against those "two ignorant hillbillies". She says if they manage to get past the 'Dream Team' today they won't be so lucky on Monday night.
