Mad Dog
At least this one didn't go insane on giving Eddie awards though but the Kobashi nostalgia needs to stop.
Guest Dangerous A
With the WON awards, you are going to get a lot of Melter-ites who kind of fall in line with what Meltz rolls with, hence the Kobashi love. However, Meltz's readers are also more inclined to dip into things besides WWE and TNA, so the awards are more encompassing on a worldwide basis. I usually get more of a kick from the category B awards like most disgusting promotional angle.
Mad Dog
Yeah, it's good to see someone give CMLL some credit for the amazing year they had. I personally think they were better than NOAH but that's just me. Kobashi, I just don't get it. He gets a total pass because he's old and banged up and used to be good. Guest Famous Mortimer
hence the Kobashit love. Don't you think by saying that you're just going too far the other way and rendering any debate about him pointless? Razor Ramon Hard Gay = best gimmick of any year though. Guest Dangerous A
Actually, I mispelled Kobashi's name and edited myself. I don't hate Kobashi at all and the several matches I've seen him in this year have all been great. However, Meltz has given Kobashi a lot more love in the last bunch of years than he deserves and it does tend to sway his readers some.
Ray
The WOTY award is based on a combination of drawing and ring work. Kobashi is the top draw and the anchor of a major promotion and he had plenty of good/great high-profile matches. I can't see many others who have that combination of drawing and work. Some would say Mistico, but I don't have the numbers for that. Kobashi is a fine pick for 2005 WOTY.

I think part of that is down to Kobashi trying to include more psychology and heat spots these days over pointless no selling and high spots. He's adapted his style since returning from the double knee surgery and has actually improved as a worker despite being more limited due to his physical state. In that regard, he is definitely one of the better and smarter workers out there even if others have better work rate and a more impressive moveset compared to him. I think Meltzer's still secretly subscribes to the more is less theory except in regards to certain promotions due to their styles, which may be why he favours Kobashi. goodhelmet
What kills me is the mixture of MMA and Wrestling in the same categories. I wish he would give that shit up already.
Guest TheShawshankRudotion
The MMA fan in me is rolling my eyes at this list. Fedor is a top 3 pick, no doubt, but Shogun was the Fighter of the Year without a fucking doubt. I could understand if they had Gomi up there, because the case could be made in his favourr, but jesus fucking christ, Shogun beat 4 top ten fighters for fucks sake, 2 or 3 of whom could warrant serious consideration for top 5. Fedor beat the #2 and #3 fighter in the WO year, which is impressive and deserves recognition - but not more than Shogun. Chuck beat ONE top 10 fighter, who just happened to be THEE top fighter, but that was it. Chucks 3 minutes of fighting basically top Shoguns 4 fights, 3 of which were dominating performances. It's bullshit. No right thinking MMA fan would have voted that way, which is why those awards should have an abstain option, too many dumbasses feeling the need to vote. It's because Dave and Bryan hyped up Cro Cop so much and the voters felt that beating Cro Cop is some mythically great accomplishment. I am feeling a strong urge to mail Meltzer and tell him that the experiment has failed, he should stop letting his voters vote on MMA. Shockwave 04, Bushido: The Tournament, PRIDE Final Conflict 05, Bushido 7 and 8, and UFC 52 smoked Wrestlemania and the ECW show (and I really liked the ECW show) yet I don't see any mention of any of them. sek69
That name never fails to crack me up. Seriously, what the hell? Hard Gay is a Japanese comedian, think of a Tom Green type who does wacky things to unsuspecting people, only he does so dressed like the biker from the Village People. You can find videos of his stuff on YouTube I think. If there's one thing constant in Japanese wrestling, there's always some promotion out there ready and willing to do a parody gimmick. Guest SweetMama Scaat
So the japanese Tom Green dressed up as Razor Ramon? Well, alright. How old is Perro Aguayo and whats he doing that hes so productive? I thought he was long gone.
Mad Dog
It's probaby his son Perro Aguayo Jr. who's currently the biggest heel in CMLL.
