soup23
Good for the novelty of seeing Awesome throw Guido around but not much else. Guido gets lawn darted into the crowd like a surfer at a rock concert. Sal has to run interference on his behalf for him to take over. His tactics on top are cheap and effective like biting and clawing for every inch of an advantage he can sustain. A crucifix bomb allows Awesome to flatten him. Awesome calls for his trusty table. Sal and Judge Jeff get into it a bit and what do you know but an Awesome Bomb through a table wins another match for big Mike. **
Loss
I always like the booking of a champion that takes on heels and babyfaces, since I do think champions really should take on all comers. These guys try to wrestle a little, but the crowd will have none of it and start chanting for tables. Wrestling wasn't irrevocably broken or anything, but signs of problems were definitely there. Amazing table spots got as over as they did when they broke so easily on light impact. Two ways to look at this match, I guess: kind of a waste of Guido, but also an effective match to put over the champ.
Tim Evans
Man, I remember this show. I was around 14 at the time and wanted to go so bad but I think it was an 18+ show so I couldn't. Anyways, this match wasn't much but it's interesting to see Guido in a title match. Awesome doing the Spike Dudley throwing into the crowd gimmick was cool. Finish was the usual Mike Awesome finish. Migs
I actually liked this quite a bit. Guido wrestled well as the underdog, and he got in a bit of his more shoot-based offense which worked to help his credibility. Guido really nicely worked himself into Awesome's typical match. GSR
Guido jumps on Awesome’s back as he’s arguing with Big Sal, but he flips him over and starts to put the boots to him. Guido with a leap frog attempt (I know!), Awesome catches him and an overhead belly to belly. After being tossed across the ring Guido rolls to the outside, followed by Awesome. Bodyslam on the concrete and he then beels Guido into the crowd. He goes for a powerbomb on the floor, but Sal attacks him from behind and then squashes him against the guard rail. He throws him back in the ring and Guido with a straight armbar submission that Awesome fights his way out of. Guido with a crucifix that Awesome reverses into a Samoan Drop. Sit out chokeslam for two, and Jeff Jones passes Awesome a table which he sets up in the ring. Guido avoids the first powerbomb attempt, but not the second as Awesome powerbombs him through the table for the win. This is an extended squash, which to be fair given the size difference between these two, it had to be. Awesome bullies, rag dolls and throws his much smaller opponent around while Guido sells and bumps for him. Guido gets one hope spot in with the straight armbar submission attempt, but that’s pretty much it. Match served its purpose, did its job and Awesome was over to the live crowd.
