soup23
ECW looks to be running a barn tonight. Nice showcase for Guido here with no Big Sal, just him and Kash doing some wrestling. I really like how Guido can get himself over with his wrestling while being decidedly a heel. A strong workman match that maximized the time it was given. ***
Loss
A Kid Rock gimmick is at the very least topical in 2000, I'll say that. I think Kash gels even better with Guido than Crazy or Tajiri do. This was a super 6-7 minute match. I was impressed that they put in so much effort in what, like soup said, was pretty obviously a barn. Kash was still establishing himself, so Guido won but Kash gained something from it because he made a strong showing and the match was so good. Impressive. ***
Migs
Kash has the Kid Rock outfit, but no Bawitdaba yet. Feels wrong without it. Match felt like it played more to Guido's strengths (specifically mat wrestling) than Kash's, although Kash got a couple of spots in. I like Guido teasing the chops and then going with kicks to the gut. Solid match. Nice to see Guido get a showcase.
AstroBoy
Guido is playing very angry and vulgar to the crowd throughout all this. Something that I enjoy about Guido is that I think a lot of his "moveset" looks kind of stilted and awkward but the moves themselves look devastating. The Sicilian Slice, that unprettier move that ended the match. . . kid of clunky in the wrong hands but brutal when he does them. Excellent point on him getting over constantly through not only personality but through strong work. Sort of like a Cesaro of his time in the work sense. The match was fine but Kash didn't shine much here.
GSR
Guido with a leg trip takedown and he starts slapping his opponent. Side headlock by Kash, Guido shoots him off, leap frog, Kash blocks the hiptoss, Guido then ducks a clothesline and counters into a backslide for an early two. Irish whip reversal, Kash springboards off the middle but is caught with a Fujiwara armbar and has to scramble to reach the ropes. Scoop powerslam from Kash for two. Guido takes to the floor, Kash with a baseball slide dropkick which sends him crashing into the guard rail and he follows up with a pescado. He slam’s Guido’s head into the turnbuckles and looks to superplex him back into the ring, however Guido is able to fight him off and ‘Sicilian slice’ for a two. He backs Kash into the corner, motions to slap him, but says “fuck you” and unloads with boots to the mid-section instead. Guido climbs the turnbuckles to argue with the crowd and Kash with a nice looking sunset flip. High backdrop from Kash. He again goes to whip Guido into the ropes, but this time he keeps hold of the arm and reverses it into a Russian legsweep for a near fall. One ‘Maritato’ later and it’s all over. Solid match. I’m guessing Kash was still quite new to ECW at this point as this was more about showcasing Guido (who worked most of the way on top). Kash was a lot more grounded than I expected too, only doing one pescado, still you saw enough from him to show that he won’t be out of place in this company. Stiva
Man, Guido is/was so underrated. I like Kid Kash but here, he's pretty generic and it's all on Guido to keep things interesting. He manages to find great counters to all of Kash's spots, makes his own stuff look great and tops it off with some great mouthing off to the crowd. A simple match but one that was worked at a good pace with enough to keep it interesting.
