Loss
There is inexplicable clown mayhem before the match proper because why not. Blink and you'll miss the first two falls, but the third fall is pretty awesome, filled with blood and great nearfalls. I suspect they were trying to copy the feel of Atlantis-Villano III, and I'm left wondering how long we're going to see that in all lucha libre promotions. It's not a bad match to copy, even if obviously it's not something that just anyone can do. Anyway, back to this match. The slight dose of heel ref stuff was pointless and annoyed me, especially since the technico was going over anyway, but it was only a couple of spots, so it wasn't completely awful. Easily the best AAA match so far, and a combination of really good matches. AAA I expect to be mostly trash with good pockets here and there that we should appreciate while we have them. So I have no expectations this will last, but I'll just say I'm enjoying AAA just fine right now. ****
soup23
A conflicting match for me where this had some stuff I liked a ton but there also wasn't as much fun as the previous match with the mat work and atmosphere of the rain. This match also had Tirantes bullshit which is always a detractor for me. Apache had a lot of hair to lose so the stakes were appropriate and the final caida is really good and dramatic but something felt sort of missing for me overall for a match I had really high hopes for coming in. Still good but I was aspiring for great. ***1/
Kronos
They say there's nothing funny about a clown after midnight. I think they should also say the same thing about a ring filled with clowns before a bloody brawl begins. That was wackiness. Too bad when they left, they took Oscar's cute valet with them. She looked wonderful in her little matador costume. You were not kidding about how fast the first two Falls occurred. The rest of the match had some cool moments but also felt a bit messy. I liked the cheating referee at first, but in the end I begin to wonder what the endgame was since he clearly wasn't going to rule against Apache. Except then he does, when faced with that wicked awesome submission hold. I guess at that point he had no choice. Crazy blood from both guys, especially Apache. This match was pretty good times, but I like the previous match better.
Tim Evans
That clown stuff was vintage Antonio Pena. I don't know what it was about but it was hilarious. Only in AAA will you get clowns throwing frisbees, fighting each other and girls in bikinis standing around. I remember this Apache/Oscar feud being legendary at the time but looking back, it's not as good as Apache/Billy boy. Apache bleeds buckets in the third fall and it turns into the slow count classic. Tirantes wouldn't be so bad if he was consistent. Earlier in the match, he was slow counting Apache and now in the third he was fast counting. I liked the rain storm match better but this was pretty good too. Great feud.
Moonsault Marvin
The kid in the crowd using a frisbee to tap the clown on the head was funny. The first two falls were super quick, but the third fall turned into a good match with a lot of crowd heat surrounding the corrupt referee. The move where Sevilla looked like he was going to frankensteiner Apache to the outside off the top rope that he changed into a sunset flip was interesting. Good match.
