Cornette's racket
The episode I'm watching today is for January 27th 1979 episode which is 47 minutes long and nearly twenty minutes in and we've had a time limit draw and an Ivan koloff vs Steve king match where koloff didn't make king look like shit and gave him some offence. And also praised him as a good wrestler. Â Also Vince has just asked a logical question about why Ivan pulled his opponent up at the count of two. Maybe I've been listening to cornette and his less than positive comments about the New York product but I'm really liking it so far. Sean Liska
Watching a fun Tito-Rodz match. Rodz and Estrada were really the key to whether you're going to get a good show in what I've seen of 79, whether you'll get a fun competitive match. You learn something every day. Cornette's racket
During the Ivan koloff interview the good captain himself does a tale of the tape on koloff. Vince calls Albano a lunatic and says thank you very much to end the interview.
thebrainfollower
Anyone know who Cowboy Bob was on the 2-27-76 show? The Baron is all over these early episodes and this is way more entertaining than I was expecting
PeteF3
I'm not going to spring for the Baron as a lost worker or anything, but I'm pleasantly surprised that he's actually working some holds and doing some wrestling in these matches, instead of going straight for either the foreign object or the hold-the-ear sell. thebrainfollower
his reaction to Cerdan and Parisi going heel against his partner was laugh out loud funny

Ricky Jackson
Man, I wonder if Iron Sheik had to go by Great Hussein Arab in WWF because Arion was the billed as the Iron Greek. I've always wondered why he used a different name there and was Sheik everywhere else
Ricky Jackson
Warms my heart that Frankie Williams was a crowd favorite to the Hamburg faithful, always getting a small roar when he's introduced
hammerva
Albano might have bumped more in that 1975 match that he did from the entire 1980-1983. Â I was confused about the Frank Monte match because twice he deliberately threw his opponent over the top rope (hell of a bump on that first one). I always thought that over the top rope was a DQ throughout the 70's and most of the 80's.
Ricky Jackson
Never in in WWWF/WWF though
Sean Liska
For those of you involved in the Yearbook project, I recommend supplementing your All-Star watching with that, fills in gaps with some Championship Wrestling footage and MSG shows. Like, I'm in June 79 on All-Star, and it looks like Championship Wrestling got a Dibiase-Patterson match that weekend. Being able to see the weekly TV and then see the big house shows is a New York only thing that we have now for 79-80.
cowboy hats
In the ‘Ernie Ladd promo’ episode, Bobo Brazil is introduced as the U.S. Heavyweight Champion, but doesn’t have a belt. Was that a thing then, guys not wearing belts, or Bobo happened to just not have it with him that day?
Ricky Jackson
It's confusing, but as far as I know there wasn't a physical WWWF US title, and Bobo never defended it. He was just billed as US champ for years, and he was the Detroit US champ off and on for years at the same time
sek69
There apparently was an actual WWWF US title belt, but I don't ever recall watching a match where anyone wore it.
Ricky Jackson
I think the belt on the right was worn by Pedro Morales in 70/71 when he returned to the WWWF and just before he defeated Koloff for the WWWF belt (Pedro came to the ring with the US title against Koloff I believe). The other was Rogers US belt that became the first WWWF title in 1963 after he lost the NWA belt to Thesz

Sean Liska
Can anyone give me a list of standout matches from All Star viewing so far? Standout is a bit of a relative term for this stuff but something like Travis/Putski-Scicluna/Coage from 4/14/79 is an example of some matches being much more fun than we expected.
