NWA Update no 1.

Since our last report regarding the National Wrestling Alliance, monumental developments have taken place. Jim Crockett Jr has been reported meeting with both Jerry Jarrett as well as Bert Prentice regarding Mr Crockett's plans to run shows in Tennessee. Mr Prentice was the first to leave witnesses say, having secured guarantees from both Jarrett and Crockett that neither WCW nor the NWA would intrude into the territory of Music City Wrestling.

The conversation would continue between the remaining promoters and the results are being called a "division of the South" by sources within both companies. In addition to the promise to avoid the Nashville area, Mr Crockett swore to respect Mr Jarrett's traditional monopoly on the Memphis area in exchange for WCW staying out of Virginia and the Carolinas. Aside from these restrictions, the two are free to operate throughout the entire Southern United States as evidenced by Jarrett announcing that WCW's upcoming "Mayham" event would take place in Miami Florida.

In other news from the NWA, it was reported at the "Day One" event that the NWA would be bringing back the "SuperBrawl" event introduced last year. Sources say that it's expected in the coming weeks of NWA television that the event will be announced as being promoted to a Pay Per View. This is said to be a "done deal" with plans for every title being defended to solidify the upgrade. Mr Crockett sees the move as a way to bridge the gap between Starrcade in November and the Crockett Cup in April as well as liking the idea of having a Pay Per View in every financial quarter.

It seems the previously reported plans of Mr Crockett are beginning to come together. Whether or not they prove successful remains to be scene.

This report has sent shockwaves across the AWA

Newly crowned AWA Mid-American Champ Paul Orndorff was working out in a gym in Tampa when guess who walked in? None other than the immortal HULK HOGAN! Needless to say, Hogan caused a lot of heads to turn. Sources reported that Hogan and Orndorff had a long work out together. During that work out, Hogan unloaded a lot off his chest to Orndorff about what happened up north. Hogan vented to Orndorff for over an hour. After Orndorff processed all this, he paused and then told Hogan he should really think about giving the AWA a call. Hogan laughed it off. Orndorff explained to Hogan that Verne has really changed and he's got big plans for the AWA. Orndorff told Hogan he could really make a lot of money in the AWA. Once again Hogan laughed at the thought of going back to work for Verne. The conversation got serious when Orndorff stopped his work out, looked Hogan in the eye and said "Would I joke about money?"

After a long pause, Hogan and Orndorff went into the sauna to continue their conversation.

After word of this got to the AWA, sources say, Verne, Greg and Gerry Morrow had a private meeting. Signing Hogan would be monumental for the AWA and change its entire landscape. In other words, it would be the biggest move in AWA history, maybe even in pro wrestling history. However, we all know the history with Verne and Hogan. A lot of pride there.

Verne indeed has changed a lot over the past year. He's looking to take the AWA worldwide and is also trying to work that TV deal with Sports Channel America. One thing he knows for sure is that Hulk Hogan can make all this happen. The name Hulk Hogan can take the AWA to heights never imagined.

Wow, Hulk Hogan in the AWA? Could this actually happen?

AWA Update

Strike while the Iron's hot

Needless to say, the Hogan/Orndorff conversation has been the hottest topic in the AWA. Behind the scenes, Greg Gagne has been a busy man. He talked with Orndorff about the conversation and asked Orndorff if there was even a slight chance Hogan would consider coming to the AWA. Orndorff told Gagne, Hulk's a business man, and if the right deal's on the table, he would at least consider it. Greg then had dinner with Verne. Greg told his dad this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity for the AWA. Greg finally convinced Verne to let him call Hulk.

Well, that call was made. Reports say Greg and Hogan had a long and friendly conversation. Hogan told Greg about some things that went on up north, while Greg told Hogan about the big plans the AWA had for the upcoming year. Then Greg finally asked "Hulk, what would it take for you to come work for the AWA?" Hogan told Greg his biggest business concern was his merchandise and also the promoting of his upcoming movie No Holds Barred. Greg told Hogan, he's sure that both sides could come to an agreement. Greg then told Hogan that Verne has loosened his grip on things and then asked Hogan if he would be willing to meet with Verne. Hogan responded with "Ok Greg, I would be willing to meet with Verne."

Sources say that historic meeting will take place next week at Verne's house.

It all boils down to if these two can let the past go, work things out and move on. Verne is all about making money and Hulk Hogan is nothing but money. It seems like a perfect fit...right?

Stay tuned

Wish I was brought into this discussion because I would have to say no to shows in Tennessee at this time.

With as much of the map not being used, the NWA has more than enough other places to spread their wings AND stay out of Tennessee.

AWA News

HULK HOGAN is in negotiations with the AWA!

Yes, you read it right. People are moving and heads are spinning behind the scenes in the AWA.

Hulk Hogan agreed to meet with Verne and did. Hogan flew to Minnesota and met with Verne at Verne's house on the lake. It was said to be very casual and cordial. The two had dinner and talked things out. Not a lot of details were given except that both were smiling, shook hands at the end and set up a follow up meeting.

The next meeting was all business at the AWA offices. Hogan brought his lawyers and met with Verne, Greg and other AWA officials. The meeting lasted all day and the next day as well. Early reports are that Hogan will get a majority of his merchandise profits and major promotional advertisement for his upcoming movie No Holds Barred. The next issue was booking commitments and dates. The AWA is asking that Hogan appear on all the 'A' house show markets, which include St. Paul, Milwaukee, Indianapolis and Denver. Along with International shows in Winnipeg, Puerto Rico, Japan and the UK. Also, he must appear on all 4 pay per view events and select TV dates. Hogan also made his future movie commitments known and would need time off for his shooting schedule.

It seemed both sides agreed on a majority of the issues but will have one more meeting this week. The deal is close but not sealed.

This is monumental for the AWA. They know what Hulk Hogan brings to the table. There's no doubt that with Hogan, they will easily get the Sports America Channel deal, which means national exposure. Greg convinced Verne that even if Hogan got 100% of his merchandise profits, the AWA would make more money and get more global exposure than ever before.

Could HulkaMania run wild in the AWA? We'll find out soon enough.

Breaking News

HULK HOGAN HAS SIGNED WITH THE AWA!!!!!!!

Yes, you read that right. After weeks of intense meetings, lawyers and negotiations, Hulk Hogan and the AWA have reached an agreement. Full details have not been disclosed but the deal was sealed, and everybody left the last meeting smiling and shaking hands. Yes, that's correct, Verne and Hulk smiled and shook hands.

The AWA is wasting no time and word is it that Hogan will make a special appearance at Title Night in Milwaukee to cut a promo. This makes sense because Title Night is a special televised broadcast.

Speaking of television. As you know the AWA and Sports Channel America have been in negotiations as well. The deal almost died when Kerry Von Erich left the AWA. However, things rapidly changed when SCA got word that Hogan was talking with the AWA. Once the Hogan deal was sealed, SCA and the AWA quickly came to an agreement. After this, Verne had no doubts or regrets about signing Hogan. Also, the AWA will debut on SCA with the Title Night special. February 17th will be a historic night for the AWA.

As far as when Hogan will return to the ring, rumors are circulating that it will happen at the Champagne Slam pay per view in April, which will be held in Market Square Arena.

It's also been confirmed that Hogan has been booked for AWA shows in Japan, Puerto Rico and Winnipeg later this year.

HulkaMania is set to run wild in the AWA and all across the world! Whatcha gonna do!?!?!

The shit hit the fan last week in Stone Mt Georgia!

This story has a lot of layers... so let's try to break it down.

Jake Roberts was said to be at the WCW Television Tapings the other night and was going to possibly be on the show but a deal could not get done.

Roberts showed up in what some would say "not great shape" which led to the issue and then he had words with Jim Herd and was escorted out of the building. Jake appeared to be under the weather but with his past - there were more rumors.

Herd has been under scrutiny for a number of things... primarily not getting good enough ratings... ppv ratings... not securing long term contracts... and Sting getting hurt

Sting's injury, a torn patella tendon required surgery... it was successful but the Sting before the injury may never return and the things that made him such a spectacle are up in the air.  He's out till July at least... not good... especially when he was tapped to be in the main event of the PPV coming up... which has since caused drawing issues even with Flair vs Luger on top

The contract situations have been hard to understand and come by... Sting is the only one under any kind of a long term deal but he's out. Luger is expected to be signed for the foreseeable future but not long term. Flair's contract is said to be up for grabs at any point. The Road Warriors are said to be on the last part of their contract. Herd had contracts with individuals like Randy Savage on his table but couldn't sign him long term.

The tension came to a head at the television tapings when Ric Flair was very vocal about Herd's lack of experience and abilities in his own view.  He also made it clear how upsetting it was that talent like Jake Roberts just walked out of the building without signing a deal! This was met with some disdain due to some of the Herd followers like... Ole Anderson. Ole and Flair were held apart from one another and then Herd and Flair almost came to blows! It was quite the spectacle.

Ted Turner... the owner of WCW as a subsidy of Turner Entertainment may be feeling the pressure of his recent investment... could he be ready to cut ties already or is it time for a change at the head of the table?

Some expect WCW officials to side with Flair and give him control... another name floating around would be Ole Anderson who has deep ties to WCW dating all the way back to his days in Georgia Championship Wrestling. Some have even said that Turner could try to make a play for Dusty Rhodes who is currently under contract with the WWF. Young guns in WCW like Eric Bischoff and Paul E Dangerously have said to be very assertive in their roles and trying to be part of the creative process. This week's television tapings will be interesting... especially with the Pay Per View coming up in just days...

  • 2 weeks later...

Viewers of tonight's Saturay Night's Main Event will have been surprised to to see Jake "The Snake" Roberts in attendance despite the fact that, as far as can be determined, Roberts' is still under contract with World Championship Wrestling. Roberts has been the subject of some controversy lately with sources at recent WCW events suggesting Mr Roberts was engaged in some...problematic behavior. Mr Roberts' comments -and the fact that the WWF allowed him to speak at all- seem to suggest that some sort of agreement has been reached with WCW but what that agreement could entail is for now anyone's guess.

In other news from the WWF, sources from within McMahon world suggest that a number of contracts could be coming to a end at the upcoming WrestleMania event. Perhaps the most significant name mentioned is the Big Boss Man. Boss Man apparently has something planned for the event -one might presume a rematch with Nailz- but there seems to be a widespread belief that afterwards Boss Man will be moving on.
