Bob Caudill was easily one of my favorite announcers of all time. So smooth and he got the stories over without being a distraction. He was always credible and also seemed like a genuinely nice person.

Yeah, I never understood that. Did he ever explain his politics as it relates to Jesse Helms? Did Caudle believe the same things?

I wasn’t aware of the Helms connection until fairly recently.

I remember Cornette making jokes about how uncomfortable Caudle was with being on screen with The Gangstas (and using the Jesse Helms connection as a point-of-reference), so there was definitely something there.

He was also intensely uncomfortable with Daryl Van Horn telling the viewing audience to "stop believing that book of fairytales every Sunday," among other things.

Not exactly a stretch to see the alignment given his age and where he was from.
