sek69 Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Dax Harwood posted on his social media that Dennis Condrey passed away Friday night. I always felt he was underrated, since he was with an all time talker wit Cornette and an all time worker like Bobby Eaton.
Jetlag Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Damn, I was just watching him and Randy Rose the other night not even knowing he had died. Clearly they were both really great wrestlers
Blehschmidt Posted March 21 Posted March 21 I always preferred Dennis to Stan. Just a fantastic all around worker, and he could talk when he had too. Apparently a pretty great person as well.
David Mantell Posted March 22 Posted March 22 RIP to now All Four of the Skywalkers from Starrcade 86.
Sweet Brown Koko Posted March 23 Posted March 23 RIP. I got to see Dennis team with Bobby live against Ron Garvin and Barry Windham in the main event of a show I went to growing up. He, as well as Bobby and Jim Cornette, got NUCLEAR heat!! They had Barry in the “Face in Peril” role and they cheated one too many times. I saw the audience shift from dislike to hatred and you could even hear it audibly. They had to quickly go to a DQ win for Barry/Ron and The Midnights had to SPRINT to the locker room! It was one of the most amazing moments that I have ever seen. Dennis was great in his role. He made you hate him but you were also afraid to punch him. He was as tough as they come.
The Thread Killer Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Yeah this is a sad loss. Although in a way, it’s great that Condrey was able to hang on and live a full life, considering what a rough battle he had with cancer years back. He was obviously a tough and resilient man, in and outside the Pro Wrestling business. It’s funny, for years I preferred the Eaton/Lane iteration of the MX, but over the years I grew to appreciate what a great heel Dennis Condrey really was. He was a master of stooging and selling, as well as getting the right kind of heel heat. He really was a consummate pro, and for a long time I didn’t understand the nuances of what he did. Not to sound maudlin, but they really don’t make em like Dennis Condrey anymore. RIP.
sek69 Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 As a kid, I only caught the tail end of the Eaton/Condrey version and I also preferred the Eaton/Lane version, but between Youtube and watching the Mid South eps on the WWE Network the Condrey version quickly rose to the top for me. Listening to Dave talk about it, apparently the MX vs MX feud ran out of gas because the powers that be basically didn't want it to keep going, which considering how over it was is just crazy.

According to Cornette, Dusty getting fired killed the Midnights vs Midnights feud. Cornette brought the idea to Dusty, who loved it, but after Dusty got fired Jim Crockett took over the booking, and for some reason, whatever that was, he did not like Randy Rose and pretty much put the kibosh on the whole thing. So dumb.
David Mantell Posted March 26 Posted March 26 It's horses for courses which version was better. Lane/Eaton was better for pure wrestling. Condrey/Eaton were better heels. Lane being genuinely handsome somewhat undermined the idea of a heel team of two plain-looking guys who thought they were God's gift to women. Question - could Condrey/Eaton have done a babyface run like Lane/Eaton did in 1988/1989?
strobogo Posted March 28 Posted March 28 I think Condrey/Eaton was better at pure wrestling, too. And fucking brutal squashes, my goodness.
