Vote for the wrestler that you think had the better career in WWE (whether you base that on impact or match quality is your decision), from 1985 to 2005. Voting will end tomorrow morning at the latest. Please give the wrestler's name first and any explanation thereafter. Thanks.

Despite being a major fan of Benoit, I cannot in good conscience vote for him over Hogan.

This is the match that really will tell us why everyone here watches wrestling, and what they truly see as important. Benoit can't touch Hogan as a draw. Hogan can't touch Benoit as a worker. So, which is more important to you? I'm going to go with the guy who made wrestling more enjoyable to watch, not the guy who brought in tons of casual fans, but also did his share of damage. Benoit has done ZERO damage to the company. Benoit never refused to drop a match, or tried to undermine another world champion. Hogan did. Benoit never walked out on the company. Hogan did three times! Benoit hasn't overstayed his welcome. Hogan has!

Hogan.

In additon to casual fans he brought me in. Benoit is among the reasons why I'm still there but Hogan brought me to the dance, as it were.

Hulk Hogan

Very underrated worker. While he can't touch Benoit's inring work he was still acceptable in the ring and no one can work a crowd as good as Hogan can. I recently watched a comp with a lot of Hogan's title defenses during his first title run. There are some very solid to good matches in there with Don Muraco, Paul Orndorff, he even drug some good stuff out of King Kong Bundy. Chris Benoit will always be one of my favorites but he just hasn't had as good a WWF career.

Hulk Hogan

There's no question that Benoit is the better wrestler, but Hogan's impact on the WWF is indelible.

I don't think Hogan had too much of a negative impact in WWF until 1990 (and Warrior failing was not totally his fault). I think Hogan's biggest fuck up for the WWF was when he refused to put Bret over. 2002 and 2003 are different stories. I might be missing something major, though.

Not to sound markish, but where would the WWF be if Hulk Hogan hadn't come along? Seriously, he was symbolic of the entire company and he represents wrestling's most successful crossover into popular entertainment - his name is synonymous with the entire culture of professional wrestling because of his run in the WWF. I don't care how much damage he did later in his career (especially since most of it was done in WCW), Hogan has reached a peak that maybe only The Rock will ever reach.

And I'll be frank - the only two people that I'd vote over Hulk Hogan in this tournament are Bret Hart and The Rock. Hart, because he contributed all over the card, absolutely smokes Hogan in match quality, and was a consummate professional until the very bitter end in Montreal. Rock, because he's almost where Hogan is in terms of drawing power / crossover success, but he beats Hogan in match quality and he doesn't have the negative influence that Hogan held later in his career. But that's it.

It really comes down to your criteria. You can even use different criteria for different matchups. However, I don't know if wresling would have been as big but it is possible it would not have been as cartoonish. And maybe that is a good thing. then again, I was a wrestling fan before Hulkamania. It may give me a different persective since wrestling is synonymous with Hogan to many of you.

Like Loss said, this is the ultimate matchup of "Match quality vs. Impact", and I'm going with match quality. Hogan's act got real tired around WM 9 and only the NWO revitalized him, but now (and since in this tourney, the WCW era NWO doesn't count) he's the same ol' same ol'.

Benoit is a highly entertaining individual to watch in his matches, since his selling is topnotch. He doesn't have to be a great promo artist because he can convey what is happening in the ring so well.

I grew up watching Hogan matches.....but I matured (in a wrestling sense) with Benoit matches.
