  1. Awesome. Thanks for the update, and at least it doesn't seem like anything is going to be lost.

  3. In his book he talks about when he was younger he would drink somewhere around 10 cans of Coke a day.
  4. The site has always been working. It's just the board that's been down for what seems like forever now. Wish someone that likely knows what is up *cough* Phil Schneider *cough* would give some kinda update.
  5. Got banned from WrestlingClassics for saying the posters there accusing Ric Flair and Jim Ross of being Vince McMahon's media puppets because they said "it's a good thing it happened at a WWE show" were being cynical jerks. I guess the fact that it is true and stated by people here (before either of those two ever said) it can't stop some people's need to turn everything into "this is why Vince is the devil."
  6. I don't like the Luger/Edge comparison simply for the fact that I like Luger and can't stand Edge.
  7. Don't really understand that. His whole audience is the hardcore fan who is going to want the director's cut. I think if he DOES do that, he should at least make both copies available to the people who donate as to not milk them.
  8. Honestly, if Edge goes in, and goes in so quickly with a strong swell of support, I am not going to be able to take the WON HOF seriously. At least with Angle he was still at his peak when he got in and you couldn't really predict he was going to have such a drop off, and I understand how much of a boost he got from having a gold medal (even though it shouldn't have mattered.) But Edge? He doesn't have a large body of great matches, he doesn't have a record as a draw other than a few weeks of slightly larger than normal TV ratings, he was an ok promo but definitely not a GREAT one, there is NOTHING about Edge that makes him HOF worthy to me. Unless you think every person who has ever had the WWF/E title should be in the Hall. Like, what makes him a better candidate than a guy whose reign has been dogged countless times: Kevin Nash? Nash was also not a draw, also not one with a large body of great matches, but he was a better promo AND had a bigger impact on the business by being part of the nWo. Or Big Show? Is Big Show going to get a bunch of support to go in the WON HOF? Or Kane? I really want someone who thinks Edge is HOF worthy (I know that's not a popular sentiment on THIS board) to explain how he's a better candidate than any of the people I listed.
  9. Don't know if we're going to get any real updates tonight. Figured J.R.'s twitter would be the best place to look but he just posted that 15 mins ago.
  10. I'm very concerned now that Michael Cole is no longer even doing commentary and is just sitting at the desk.
  11. You're right it was a Buddy Colt match, and now that you mention it, it was during the Florida part with Solie commentary.
  12. I enjoyed reading this, very well done. I do kind of wonder about the whole "semi-retired" in 72 thing, because there is a match with II as Johnny Walker on the Cornette Garbage tapes which seem to be from around 73 in the Mid-Atlantic territory.
  13. Dylan throw out some good Derrick King matches for us to watch.
  14. Not picking on you Tim, but I have to think if that was true someone other than just Roddy Piper would have mentioned it by now.
  15. The Mr. Perfect love is something that I just don't get. I mean LIKING Mr. Perfect and thinking he's one of the more memorable people from the era, sure. Saying that he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame over all the other guys that haven't made the cut over the years? I just don't even see an argument for it.
  16. I think it's a better look for him but I kind of feel like they missed out on a hot angle. People would have cared more about someone kicking Triple H's ass and then cutting his hair rather than "retiring" him, which no one believes.
  17. Been watching SMW TV lately and am right about up to Volunteer Slam 92, last week was the tag title match between Bodies and Fantastics. I will agree that the babyface side is really weak, with the only one I particularly care for at this point being Hector Guerrero. Really don't like the all Fulton version of the Fantastics because I never really liked Bobby that much to begin with. I do have to say that I think Dutch Mantell is really good as color commentator. Sometimes he gets too wrapped up what he's saying and misses calls but other than that he's been really entertaining so far. He and Caudle work really well together too. Oh and vignettes with Cornette going to meet the Heavenly Bodies were gold.

    Memphis

    Memphis

Here's a funny letter about Memphis that appeared in an issue of Mat Results in 1985: "In recent bulletins (including Mat Results) I've read numerous derogatory remarks about the AWA and their tv show on ESPN. I didn't understand this until the latest issue of Mat Results. You state that the Memphis arena wrestling and tv shows were among the best in the country at present. I've also seen this expressed in other bulletins. You wrote you liked the tv show because during the matches and interviews the wrestlers attack each other with boards, trash cans, benches etc. Sure doesn't sound like WRESTLING to me. The arena shows feature Jerry Lawler as the top star. Jerry has little wrestling ability relying basically on punching and the fine wrestling manuever of throwing fire. Recent champs have been Bota the Witch Doctor and Taras Bulba, 2 wrestlers with very little ability. I really doubt if either could do a good match with Lawler or anyone else for that matter. You mentioned Fabs vs. Sheepherders for feud of the year. From what I've seen on tape and read in the bulletins they primarily take turns hitting each other with chairs, chains, tables, flag poles etc. This doesn't quite sound like wrestling either. I'm very surprised that fans who like the Memphis buffoonery don't also love the WWF circus. If Memphis "wrestling" is the best I'd much rather stick with the ridiculed AWA. The recent Martel vs. Gordy match on ESPN was great WRESTLING not the board breaking, chair smashing, chain swinging, fire throwing "action" etc. in Memphis.
  20. Reading Mat Results Volume 4 02 and it has part 1 of a bio on Dick Murdoch which says the first ever card at the Superdome on 7/17/76 was main evented by Murdoch vs. Killer Karl Kox in a "Jim Bowie Death Match" which apparently was a blindfold match with seconds to give directions. Didn't give an attendance but it would indicate that Murdoch was at least a draw at this period of time in Mid-South, which was right after turning babyface and breaking away from Killer Karl Kox and Buck Robley.
  21. Is there anything online someone can point me to of someone making a case for Mr Wrestling II? I've loved pretty much everything I've seen II in, so I'd just like to read more on him.
  22. He won't be smart enough to avoid another marriage.
  23. I can't see Vince seriously considering Backlund as champ in 1993. Certainly not as a babyface.
  24. In the past 5 years is there any wrestler that has benefited more from their last name than Ted Dibiase? If his dad wasn't the Million Dollar Man I don't see any way that he would still be employed by WWE.
  25. Their decision not to run WCW as a seperate entity had a lot to do with UPN and Spike not wanting to take a WCW show and get branded as the "wrestling network"
