  1. Jim Powers vs Barry Horowitz? The ultimate jobber dream match. EDIT: Damn that Austin promo was great. You could tell Vince wasn't exactly thrilled with Austin's spiel about him being a dirty promoter who wouldn't do anything to him because he wanted to make money off the Austin/Bret match.
  2. Welcome to our modern education system. And yet some politicians have the nerve to complain that the reason our classrooms suck is because we pay our qualified and competent teachers too much money. While the pro-teacher and anti-teacher crowds are busy fighting with each other, school administrators sit back and laugh while collecting fat paychecks and sucking more and more resources from school districts that should go to teachers. Don't forget the teacher's union.
  3. I wouldn't say this has anything to do with comparing the star power of Sid and Vader and everything to do with where the show was last night. The crowd going crazy for Vader was kind of an anomaly, especially considering the last time he showed up as a Coachman stooge he got pretty much no reaction. EDIT:I just watched it on youtube, he still got a pretty good reaction for a guy who hasn't been on TV in over a decade.
  4. This post makes me think a discussion about guys who were really only good at working one pace or style would be an interesting topic.
  5. Anybody that could see that dumb ass Richard/Edwards top rope superplex spot, pop for it and then buy tickets to the next show has to be at least ONE of the retarded asshole combination.

    Cena/Lesnar

I think part of it is that Angle was never a wrestling fan growing up. So he had no point of reference as to what a "great match" was, other than what the crowd popped for. And of course kicking out of finishers is going to get a big crowd reaction. So I could see a guy that doesn't really know what makes up a good wrestling match, thinking that because the crowd is popping for all these kickouts and finisher reversals, then this must be the way to work all my matches. It's still stupid but I can see how he got there.

  8. Christian was at his best as ECW Champion. Nobody else on the show was obviously above his level and he could just focus on having good matches without overbooked angles.
  9. You've heard him bury guys in real life on what? Media appearances? Of course he's going to talk differently in a media appearance and a creative meeting. Whether that's a DIRECT quote or not, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility he would have said that around the time he, Foley and Funaki were all on Smackdown.
  10. I am 100% sure that they have it set up so that no one but a McMahon can ever have controlling interest in the company. There is no way they wouldn't, especially considering when they went public there was still have the threat of Turner just buying up all the shares.
  11. This is true for just about every other wrestler ever. But Hogan already had plenty of money, and was happy doing bad TV at the time. WCW had to give him creative control or he would have never come in 1994. Why they didn't try to eliminate that clause in his SECOND contract, I don't know. Bischoff already knew what kind of pain he was to deal with, and had to know when they were doing negotiations (according to Bischoff's book around August/September of 97) that WCW had all the leverage because Hogan wasn't going to want to go back to WWF, and couldn't get them to pony up the same guaranteed money. I suppose he could have just been worried about Hogan deciding to go home without creative control, thus losing the Hogan vs Sting match he'd been building for a year at that point.
  12. Adrian Street and Lanny Poffo were only KIND OF playing the same gimmick. In the ring, their matches were very different because Street's character was supposed to maybe distract you, or get you off your game so he can start kicking your ass. The Genius was never going to kick your ass. One of them played the gimmick as threatening and the other played it as a total chickenshit "god I wanna see this guy stop running and get killed" type.
  13. All this focus on a DVD misses the fact that the WWE probably wanted it more for their Network than for DVD sales.
  14. Ok that guy seems like a total douche, however my general point still remains. If a dude decides he's gonna go buy every piece of Mid-South footage that is out there and put it up on XWT-Classics and asks for a $1 or $2 to help cover the costs of buying all the DVDs, I'd pay it. Because "some other nerd" isn't going to do it.
  15. No, not unless he plans on cutting the rightful owners in on a piece of the the sells. He shouldn't and isn't. He is selling copies of the DVD. He is being given the same consideration, he gave the wrestling promotion. I couldn't care less if that dude decides to stop uploading obscure puro DVDs because I have never and will never download them. However, if someone was uploading some awesome shit that I want to see and don't have, like some old territory stuff that's hard to come by, I would easily throw a buck or two their way to keep having access to it that I otherwise would not have. It's all about accessibility and whether the person you are paying is the only person you're going to be able to get the footage from.(Or at least get the footage from without paying a lot more than you want to spend, especially when we're talking about having to import obscure japanese indy DVDs)
  16. You might care to elaborate on that since you're probably the only guy here who is real into the F4W board. Some guy is selling bootleg Puro and gets pissed when people upload it for free. People call him out on it and he gets bitchy. Alan defends the guy and people get pissed at that. Thread is closed. At least that's what I got out of it? I don't know the details of THIS situation, however I do remember a guy posting some puro stuff on the Matches folder on DVDVR and asking people to pay $1 to view it on his private youtube account. Most of the posts were bitching about it and refusing to pay, but the guy made a good point. SOMEONE has to buy the Puro DVD and rip it. Shouldn't he at least have the chance to try and recoup costs of the DVD? If not, why the fuck should he share it with anyone instead of just keeping it to himself?
  17. You might care to elaborate on that since you're probably the only guy here who is real into the F4W board.
  18. Even if THQ goes under, I don't see that having much effect on WWE. All that means is they switch video games companies, something they have done at least 2 or 3 times in the past. Someone is going to covet that license because the games always sell. Why the fuck was anyone trying to hype this as "BIG NEWS"? "OH MY GOD I WAS SWORN TO SECRECY AND I CAN'T TELL YOU ABOUT THIS THING YOU REALLY AREN'T GOING TO GIVE A SHIT ABOUT!"
  19. This is really the major problem that TNA has, they don't make anyone on their roster feel like a star. It's why when guys come in, and SHOULD bring a buzz to the promotion like when Angle and Hardy came in, there is no buzz because TNA just makes everyone on the roster feel the same. Or if through some magical occurrence, one of their guys gets a buzz about him IN TNA, they kill them like they did Samoa Joe. I don't follow TNA very often, but I did watch Lockdown and the only person that felt like a guy to keep watching on that show was Bobby Roode.
  20. I wouldn't get TOO worked up about the RoH telling 3 guys they aren't going to use them for a while. Honestly, have they even been using the Bucks or TJP enough to justify the airfare? Do they draw enough to justify the airfare? RoH has frequently limited or cut back on guys they have to fly in from the West Coast.
  21. I think there has to be SOMETHING behind it. I don't doubt for a second that if Cena failed a test they would sweep it under the rug, so for them to suspend Orton there had to be more to it than just "oh well he failed his test"
  22. Everyone always said that TNA behind the scenes had to be far more interesting than iMPACT. Maybe they finally listened. Lets you cut a whole bunch of wrestlers and focus on Bischoff, Hogan & Dixie, which is what they want anyway.
  23. I haven't been able to get into Kane since he came back with the mask. I liked unmasked Kane FAR better than this new run. It's just an obvious "well we don't know what to do with Kane anymore, let's just put the mask back on him." Plus all I can do now during his matches is think about how fake the hair looks.

    Brock is back

I think people have always kind of over-estimated how much BROCK LESNAR is a draw. I'd say after he beat Heath Herring, and especially after beating Randy Couture, a large part of his drawing power was based on people wanting to see him lose. He had his fan base, mostly wrestling fans who he brought over, but the majority of people who were already watching UFC before Brock showed up wanted to see the big dumb pro wrestler get knocked out. And once Cain Velazquez did that, his drawing power was already greatly hurt. His fight against Overeem was way down from the Cain fight. The people paying for UFC PPVs to see him lose, had mostly already stopped paying to see him. They certainly were never going to follow him to WWE. The other large part of people buying Brock UFC fights were wrestling fans. I bought UFC PPVs to watch Brock fight, but there was pretty much no chance I was going to buy a WWE PPV to watch Brock wrestle. I'm still a huge Brock mark. I'm happy he came back. I just can't imagine anything WWE can do that would make me buy a PPV at this point. Other than suddenly remember how to book episodic TV with satisfying payoffs. And looking at the WWE PPV numbers and their steady decline over the past 5 years, I am not alone. For all this hand wringing about how WWE screwed up and ruined the great draw of Brock Lesnar, I wonder how many people saying this would have ever bought a PPV to see him wrestle themselves?
