  1. Okay... that's a good point, and a pretty reasonable way to look at it. Hadn't thought of it that way, and yeah... "Went out and worked an hour" does take Ric's bullshit to another level where follow up wouldn't be out of line. I thought it was a great response after reading the post but I think it would be a horrible way to approach the subject. Flair's response... "You wrestled after Owen died on a WWF PPV". If it were me interviewing Flair, I wouldn't ask him like that, either. My tongue was somewhat planted in my cheek with how I phrased it in my previous post, but I definitely would have found some way to approach it. Austin: "So I gotta ask, Ric...Why go out and wrestle when Brody -- a longtime friend/colleague/fellow wrestler of yours -- is dying in the shower? Don't you think that's kind of strange?" Flair: "It was a tough call, Steve. But the situation was so chaotic, that I felt the best course of action was to go out and give the people what they paid to see. I'm sure you had similar misgivings wrestling after Owen died." ......commence what might be an interesting discussion comparing the two situations -- much more interesting than the typical old road drinking stories and shoot interview BS.
  2. The whole Brody segment of the podcast still irks me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the banter between Austin and Flair -- two old hands shooting the shit -- but forget the argument about whether it was a journalistic type of interview (it wasn't, nor should it be) or if Flair was actually there (he wasn't, obviously). If I'm just having a conversation with an old friend/colleague who is a pro wrestler -- whether it's being recorded for a podcast or not -- and that friend/colleague tells me that he went out and worked an hour long match right after another friend/colleague got stabbed to death in the shower, I'm going to say something. "You did what?! You went to the ring while Brody, a fellow wrestler, bled out in the shower?! What the fuck were you thinking?!"
  3. There's nothing wrong with bashing modern-day wrestling based only on show reviews or booking decisions. Nothing at all. Most people who do it have probably seen enough modern-day wrestling to know that they don't like it, so it's not like they're just pulling opinions out of their ass. I'm not going to buy the next Nickelback album, but I'll still say it sucks. I've never eaten a McWrap/burger thingy from McDonald's, but I'll still tell you it tastes terrible. Why? Because I've heard enough Nickelback and eaten enough McDonald's to know that both things are god-awful. That said, if people who are into the modern wrestling product are having a discussion about it on a forum, don't be a troll and butt in just to say how much it sucks if you don't watch it. I'm not going to log into a Nickelback or McDonald's forum just to proclaim how terrible their music/food is.
  4. Not to derail this thread w/ techie questions, but one quick ask: Is it possible to download the mp3 on my phone and have it end up directly in my iTunes library? Or is my only option to download via PC and plug my phone in and sync?
  5. Is this on iTunes somewhere? The podcast craps out about halfway through if I use the embedded player on the webpage. The first half was great, though!
  6. It happens w/ shows that have been around for a long time. Fans of the show's early days are fond of what the show "used to be" and shit on the new stuff without even watching it. SNL is one show that comes to mind that falls into this category. I don't blame people for shitting on Raw without watching it. A couple times per year I end up getting sucked back into giving the modern product a try again, and I always end up disappointed. Most of the stuff said by the crowd who doesn't watch Raw but still shits on it ends up being true. Also, if Triple-H is still on TV or putting himself high up on the card, there is no need to actually watch the show to know that it sucks. EDIT: Another show that fits the category (and deservedly so): SportsCenter.
  7. This going to sound like one of YEAH WELL THEY CAN AFFORD IT things but that probably was a part of the "grooming" process to get Barry to do the Hall of Fame with the Horsemen. We're assuming it's actually true and Flair wasn't just talking out of his ass?
  8. Fox Sports 1 seems like a good fit, but it all depends on what their numbers look like after they start showing actual games (college football and baseball). If they're still terrible, I suppose they could make a play. But my guess is they'd rather conserve resources to make a run at getting NBA rights a few years from now. "Conserve resources" is probably a poor term to use when talking about FOX, but you get my drift. I don't think they'd make a play for wrestling unless they truly felt it would help them land rights to the NBA, and I don't see how dumping a pile of cash on Vince's doorsteps helps land the NBA.
  9. What does the WWE offer for medical coverage for retired performers? I'm asking because the NFL just settled its concussion lawsuit for $765 million -- or about $170,000 per plaintiff. There are a bunch of people Tweeting that WWE offers much more comprehensive retirement coverage for its retired performers than the NFL does. Is that true?
  10. It would be nice to hear a little bit of pushback on occasion. It does irk me sometimes that Austin's show is all duckies and bunnies. Maybe pushback is the wrong word. But a simple follow-up to Flair's inventing hardcore claim might be, "What are your thoughts on the Tully/Magnum 'I Quit' match from Starrcade '85? Do you think that match played some role in laying the groundwork for hardcore wrestling?
  11. The answer is Triple H. End of discussion. End of thread. Actually, don't end the thread, I like the strip club song discussion. What 90s nu metal songs are still played in titty bars and becoming "classic hits?"
  12. Anyone who thought Flair was fucked up and obnoxious on that video game panel needs to watch this Neidhart clip to see someone who really is fucked up and obnoxious.

  14. http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2013/0...s-daniel-bryan/ Bryan should have fired something right back at Flair. If nothing else, it would have be a good start to a program involving the two of them.
  15. I've skipped around and watched like 30 minutes of this and don't see what's so bad about it. Am I missing something?
  16. Markus has been asked about doing a football game and said he doesn't know anything about American football and wouldn't know where to start. I doubt he makes enough money to bring someone else on board to make a football game, either.
  17. Just finished the two-part Diamond Dallas Page interview. DDP sounds just like Saul from Breaking Bad.
  18. Oh, I loved Fast Break Pro Basketball. Spent way too much time on that in law school. Very deep game, although it had some AI flaws that got very easy to exploit (like how a good PG could always be had for the mid level exception). A new version of FBPB came out a few months ago. Many improvements. Great game. http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=524229
  19. I haven't played any of the versions of OOTP from the period they joined the Football Manager folks and then split back off. I want to say 6.5 or so was the last version I played, and the final version we used in out online league. The AI was mediocre and the ability to sim-control your club (rather than manage every at bat) was something that needed more work. That said, it was a fun game and career mode let you have a lot of fun building a team over the years. Things like Cato let you track your data better as well. The last two versions of OOTP have been nearly flawless. Literally my only complaint is that the AI when doing an inaugural draft is a little weak. Other than that, I don't know how you can make a better game. I am a fanboy, though, so take that for what it's worth.
  20. I played FOF but quit because the single-player AI roster management is terrible. After free agency ends, you can always have your pick of solid veterans to sign and fill out your roster before training camp because the AI teams were either too stupid to sign them or in salary cap hell. The developer has announced a new version that he hopes to release in November. Unless the single-player AI is improved....I don't know....doesn't seem very appealing yet. I got into Action PC Football recently. It's not a career sim and buying the seasons is a money pit, but it's a fun game. How is PFS for single-player career mode? Someone needs to teach the OOTP crew about American football so they can make the OOTP of football sims.
  21. I also love these types of games, Jerry. Out of the Park Baseball, Action PC Football and Fast Break Pro Basketball are a few that come to mind. Those games are also complex and deep, but are manageable due to their design and menu setups. It doesn't feel like a chore to play. TEW was just so tedious. Maybe it's much more difficult to design a wrestling text sim than it is a baseball/football/basketball sim, but man, it just burned me out. Maybe I'll give the 2013 demo a whirl.
  22. I totally forgot about this game. I probably wouldn't put it in my top 5, but I have at least one version of the game. To me, the concept and depth is great -- it's a fun game to think about. But when I sit down to actually play it, it's just too much clicking and putzing around. I grow bored after a while because my grand visions of a wrestling universe require navigating through too many menus and wearing out my finger clicking a mouse. Haven't tried the 2013 version. Is it better than previous versions as far as menu layout and navigation?
  23. What are people's favorite wrestling video games? I've got several on my list, mostly for nostalgic reasons. My top 5: 5. WWF Royal Rumble (Sega Genesis) I played this game for hours growing up. Nothing overly special about its graphics or gameplay, it was just really awesome to have a Royal Rumble on the Genesis. 4. Legends of Wrestlemania (PS3) A great roster and the game designers did a solid job capturing the nostalgia from the 80s and 90s era. The ring entrances are better than the actual gameplay, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I've used this game to teach my two little nieces about wrestling. They love it. The other day, this game taught them what a ladder match was. I don't think their parents were too impressed. 3. Pro Wrestling (Sega Master System) There was a bearded guy on this game that would do the giant swing and 7-year-old me would go absolutely nuts over it. I had never seen anyone do the giant swing in a TV wrestling match, but would play this game for hours and do nothing but execute the giant swing. 2. WCW vs. NWO World Tour (N64) My buddies and I played this endlessly in high school, often wagering on matches and holding cash tournaments to see how much of what little money we had we could lose. 1. WWF Wrestlefest (Arcade) Ah, the memories. The parents would go the casino and I would head to the arcade the plug an endless amount of quarters into this game.
  24. Some guys run their house. Some guys run around their house. I'm a guy that runs my house, so I watch wrestling whenever I want. LOL. Not really. I have three prime watching opportunities: 1) Before bed. The wife is usually reading or putzing around on her phone. I nod off easy when I watch from bed, though. 2) On the iPad when I'm watching sports on the big screen. 3) On the iPad while working out. Our first kid is due Oct. 5. We'll see how that impacts my wrestling watching.
  25. Another great show. It's been interesting following the backlash to the backlash on Luger recently. On an unrelated note, here's a cool Luger story from a buddy of mine: http://tundravision.blogspot.com/2011/07/g...ights-with.html
