  1. To me the one true "alternative" promotion out there that actually serves up something that could be a viable second banana company is CHIKARA. If I ever won Powerball, I might give Quack a few mil just to see what would happen. Besides him retiring to the Bahamas, of course.
  2. Good lord, how do you store a collection that gigantic?

  4. TM's definitely hit or miss, but I dug his match with Hamada like a shovel.

  6. With regard to his coverage by wrestling "journalists", Flair strikes me as the Babe Ruth-type of the biz--in and outside of the ring. On a completely different topic... Anyone else waaaaaaay behind on their New Japan set watching? I've got 13 discs to go and just found out I'll be working the equivalent of double shifts for the next 2 weeks.
  7. My working ballot through 2 discs. I'd like to say this is pending some rewatches... but I've got 13 discs to go in six weeks. WORKING TOP 10 Andre the Giant vs Stan Hansen (9/23/81) Antonio Inoki vs. Stan Hansen (4/3/80) Antonio Inoki vs. Stan Hansen (9/11/80) Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Dynamite Kid (2/5/80) Tiger Mask vs. Gran Hamada (11/6/81) Bob Backlund vs. Stan Hansen (9/30/80) Antonio Inoki vs. Stan Hansen (2/8/80) Chavo Guerrero vs. Kengo Kimura (11/3/80) 1981 NJPW Tag League Finals-Antonio Inoki & Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Andre the Giant & Rene Goulet (12/10/81) 2/3 Falls-Tatsumi Fujinami & Kantaro Hoshino vs. Dynamite Kid & Steve Keirn (1/18/80) WORKING BOTTOM 5 Tiger Mask & Kengo Kimura vs. Negro Navarro & El Signo (10/30/81) Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Chavo Guerrero (5/9/80) Gran Hamada vs. Babyface (4/3/80) Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Steve Keirn (11/6/80) (I know a lot of people loved it but it bored me silly.) Chavo Guerrero vs. Kengo Kimura (9/30/80)
  8. I've actually been trying to do this through excel, a spreadsheet with my collection indexed by disc, and by wrestler/tag team
  9. That's my thought. I know there was some sloppy execution but the goal was to make TM look like a million bucks. And Dynamite Kid achieved that. So, the match did its job. Will probably be middlin' on my ballot--assuming I get one in.
  10. So with the deadline fast approaching, spent today before my shift trying to play some catch-up. As a general rule, I steer clear of the individual threads discussing each match until I watch them--so as to avoid spoilers. Even though I know the predilection of many of the folks in this fair community, I was rather shocked at the abject Hatred (yeah, capital H) for Tiger Mask/Dynamite from 4/23/81. It was far from a perfect match, and right now it's middle of the road on my ballot, but I still found it entertaining. It probably also should be noted I can count all the Sayama matches I have seen in my life on one hand and have fingers left over. What was your opinion about that match?
  11. As a lapsed ROH devotee, I always felt Nigel and Claudio both had that "big-time" potential because of their size, their ability to wrestle, their charisma before, during and after a match, et cetera
  12. He REALLY wants wrestling to be booked like MMA, doesn't he?
  13. I don't get it.
  14. Didn't Taker and Henry have a pretty darn good casket match at a recent Mania too?
  15. See, that's what I think. But I look at my voluminous DVD collection, not to mention all the matches that get linked online, plus all the stuff on TV and Youtube, and sometimes I think "holy crap, I don't know where to begin!"
  16. Posted this on another forum... As a fairly recent contributor/poster here to this humble little community of wrestling nerditude, I found myself initially blown away by the wealth of matches and shows made available, the discussions and the general breadth of knowledge of wrestling around the globe. It's definitely seen the amount of wrestling on my want-to-see list grow exponentially... the point now where it's almost overwhelming. How do y'all follow/keep up with all of the wrestling going on--not to mention all the good stuff from yesteryear you might have missed the first time around?
  17. Punk got to cut not just one promo in the middle of the Rumble, but THREE. If that doesn't show how highly he ranks in WWE right now, I am not sure what does.

  19. I just finished disc 1, finally. I enjoyed the heck out of that Fujinami/Kimura match. Wow. Tremendous, tremendous stuff.
  20. I agree wholeheartedly. Wrestling, and enjoying wrestling, has always required some suspension of disbelief.
  21. I stand by my point. Even if he missed Miami Vice's heyday, he was around for Nash Bridges. I never watched the show but I knew about it. And Stone Cold was a guest star and everything. Wrestling Crossovers! I just think Martin and his ilk are being purposely oblivious as to the guest hosts in some misguided attempt to look cool.
  22. How old is Todd Martin? I'm in my early 30s and I know who Don Johnson is. And I was a regular viewer of neither Miami Vice nor Nash Bridges. This willful ignorance just seems feigned. Is this all part of a "I'm too cool to keep up with popular culture" schtick that he has going? I only ask because you'd think a journalist--even an "Internet wrestling journalist"--would try to at least have a passing knowledge of what goes on in the world around him. Most of these WO guys must live in Ostrich-town because they apparently live with their heads in the sand.
  23. I think the clip job on the old Florida matches is one of the great disappointments of the set. I also found it amusing that the montage of "dubious champions" during the WCW era included Sid. Good thing no other major promotion was ever foolish enough to give him a title run. Hey, wait...
  24. No, thankfully. As someone who makes their living shoveling the written word, I am relieved to hear this.
  25. I've wondered a few times what would have happened to the NWA had Magnum and David Von Erich both continued to wrestle.
