Ridiculous quotes from WO.com columnists
Boondocks Kernoodle replied to sek69's topic in Megathread archive
It's the best-selling non-WWE wrestling book, I believe. -
Actually, he often makes the point that "MMA isn't hot. UFC is." So perhaps it's UFC that's not the real thing (but better, much like indoor soccer and Memphis wrestling).

Could Goldust have been champ in 1996
Boondocks Kernoodle replied to puropotsy's topic in Pro Wrestling
In his book, Dustin says Vince came up with the gimmick (or at least Vince is the one who laid it out for him), but he gives Russo credit for the movie quotes. -
Also a logical reason for there to be a table at ringside!

[1996-12-29-WCW-Starrcade '96] Hulk Hogan vs Roddy Piper
Boondocks Kernoodle replied to Loss's topic in December 1996
I don't remember them ever stating in the buildup that it was a non-title match, but I had kind of figured that it would be since they never said it was a title match.- 18 replies

The storied pro wrestling career of Madonna
Boondocks Kernoodle replied to Loss's topic in Pro Wrestling Mostly
This would probably be the best place to note that I've always believed that HHH's entrance at Mania 22 was his way of campaigning for the title role in the Conan the Barbarian remake, much in the way Madonna "auditioned" for Evita with the "Take a Bow" video. Tell me I'm not nuts for thinking this. -
Certainly teasing Cena-Rock and not delivering would be a bunch of crap, but I don't see it happening. Dave made a comment on Saturday's Observer Radio that Michael Cole's match would be the most important on the show --which seemed ridiculous to me because how could Lawler vs Cole be a main event-- but if he means Rock vs Cole, then I understand. Sort of.

Farrah was ten years older than Gino so no way did they go to school together. -
She was in for a few months in '93. She just did live interviews on Superstars and Challenge.

As of the last WON the plan if Taker can't do a singles match is him and Kane vs The Corre in a handicap match.

[1996-10-21-WWF-Raw] Interview: Bret Hart

Watch for the Rock's TV debut standing backstage with the heels watching the monitor. -
[1996-10-14-WWF-Raw] Shawn Michaels vs Steve Austin
Boondocks Kernoodle replied to Loss's topic in October 1996
I remember the "biggest Raw match ever" hype and thinking it was bullshit. They had just done Bret vs Undertaker eight months earlier, and that was bigger than this. I do believe this was the lowest-rated Raw of all time, at least up to this point, which makes the hype all the more humorous. -
I bet Hall and Waltman have already received calls.

[1996-02-11-WCW-Superbrawl VI] Ric Flair vs Randy Savage (Cage)
Boondocks Kernoodle replied to Loss's topic in February 1996
Couldn't have been worse than the 12/2/96 Regal-Benoit match in which they cut to a wide shot of the ring and stayed on it for about 4 minutes with no cuts because one of them was bleeding.- 10 replies

If they're going to put out two WWE games in a year, this one is going to have to play differently from the Smackdown vs Raw series. I have no problems with the idea of an arcade-style wrestling game, but usually such things fail in execution. For example, this game is going to suck because it's made by the team that made the TNA game.

I'm disappointed that Bruce didn't follow in the footsteps of Bobby Heenan's "Chairshots" and name his book "Ballshots."

The Sandman match on 1/5 was his last in ECW. He debuted in WCW cutting a promo on the 1/22 Nitro. I remember that House Party footage didn't air on ECW TV until two weeks after it occured (while usually matches from a particular ECW Arena event would start airing the week after the event and generally would continue for two or three weeks), so the first I learned of Konnan leaving ECW was seeing him advertised on the Clash of the Champions control center.

Brooke was born in May of '88, so Linda must have either miscarried or Dave had some wrong info.

Yeah, I remember that the Tajiri-Psicosis match was shown in clips on TNN and then aired in full on Hardcore TV that weekend. I know there were a few other matches and moments that pissed me off because I didn't feel like staying up until 2AM to see them, but I can't remember any now. Once they got on TNN, they shouldn't have even bothered producing a syndicated show. National prime-time exposure should negate the need to pay thousands of dollars every week to have your show air in shitty late-night timeslots on local stations.

[1996-01-05-ECW-House Party] Raven, Beulah and Tommy Dreamer
Boondocks Kernoodle replied to Loss's topic in January 1996
As a fan of Raven at the time, I didn't like them breaking up the Raven/Beulah act. And if they had to do it, couldn't they have done it in a way that didn't shit on the past nine months of storylines? Like Raven leaves Beulah to get superbombed by the Pitbulls and when she comes back she aligns herself with Dreamer to get revenge on Raven? Instead, he beats her up in every match for months and then one week, they're a couple. Dreamer isn't really even the kind of character that should have a hot valet. What bullshit. For the sheer impact of the pregnancy revelation and the great crowd reaction, I suppose I can't call this a bad angle, but man, if Vince Russo had booked this it would have its own Wrestlecrap entry.- 19 replies

The Torch from the week before BATB was reporting that Hogan was the most likely partner. One interesting note from that issue of the Torch is that WCW had gimmick names planned for Hall and Nash that were in the process of being cleared for trademark issues, but if they didn't clear by the PPV they would just use their real names.

Boondocks Kernoodle replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I just read the one recapping Bash '89. Apparently the followup PPV was originally to be called "The Holloween Holocaust." I think it's obvious why they changed that one. They spelled "Halloween" wrong! -
Active WWE wrestlers who were stars during the boom

R-Truth was there in late 2000 and early 2001, so he might count, maybe. -
