I would like some type of explanation for why Catch Point uses an instrumental version of Taylor Dayne's "Tell It To My Heart" as their entrance music.

Any move that requires an overblown announcement, like The People's Elbow, Sweet Chin Music, The Worm, Superman Punch, whatever that dumb thing Zach Ryder does is, Five Knuckle Shuffle, etc.

I can't think of any other reason people wouldn't like Vince Russo or might like Jim Ross better. That's amazing.

The women Cornette is lambasting were often specifically recruited by WWE, so shouldn't the criticism go there instead of to the women themselves?

That all sounds like pretty bad, poorly formulated garbage. Either this is all fabricated, there's more to the story or John Cena doesn't have motivations that resemble a human being of any kind, good or bad.

It's not limited to just wrestling for sure, but non-Southern accents that are also regional don't seem to be as stigmatized. Another reason it's odd to me is that until recent years, our Presidents usually had Southern accents. So why would it not matter in politics but matter in other things? And why did WWE never get the "Southern" stigma when guys like Austin, Undertaker, Michaels, Jim Ross, Lawler, the Hardys and plenty of other big names of the time also had Southern accents to varying degrees?

WCW used to get knocked around a lot for being "too Southern". Bischoff thought that image was one of the big things holding WCW back from being competitive with the WWF and worked hard to change it. People like to crack on AJ Styles' accent. This is fine on its own, but why is this sort of regionally-based criticism pretty limited to the South? ECW had a lot of acts that wouldn't play as well outside the Northeast like the FBI but I never once heard ECW called "too Northeastern", and I never hear anyone criticizing any wrestler's New Yawk accent. It often seems like in wrestling talk that what's Northeastern is what's considered the standard. We see that with WWE and comparisons to other national groups and have for as long as I can remember, but we also see it with the indies, where ROH got a lot more coverage than West Coast indies or IWA Mid South back in the 2000s. The same seems to be true today, as I'm not sure Southern indies would be on anyone's radar if not for Dylan. Just something I'd like to explore more.

Dave has talked before about how ticket sales in Dallas spiked after the announcement too. So it was obviously a huge success.

Roman Reigns and AJ Styles should feud on and off for at least the next five years. I think Roman found his career rival.

They are at least trying to push a lot of people that have been around forever in fresh ways. It's a big improvement.

The big story was that after people saw him once, the novelty wore off. They had him on every Nitro, which just ran it all into the ground.

Is there any proof that anyone in WWE makes a difference other than John Cena? Anyone at all?

Yes, but not as a weekly character. He should have been on Nitro two or three times maximum going into the Hogan match, which other than maybe Goldberg and Sting were the only money matches he had in him. I do think potential was there to pop one huge buyrate, but not with him on TV every single week as he was. It just made clear doing it as they did how much he sucked.

Austin had both the larger-than-life aura and the working class appeal. He's the type of guy that we're lucky if we get one of every generation in wrestling. I do think Bryan had the potential to represent a new form of that. He felt like a product of the times more than anyone they had pushed in that role since Austin.

Well, even then, Wal-Mart is a cultural institution for some people. When my family visits me in Chicago and we go to the suburbs for something, they get excited when they see a Wal-Mart because it more closely resembles home. I think fetishizing is a strong word to describe that sort of thing, but I do think people value the familiar and assign cultural value to it.
