    I still think Starrcade '88 holds up as one of the best PPVs ever. Looking forward to listening to this soon.

    I may have liked this even more than the February match. The exchanges are faster and more violent, and the maniacal smile on Fujiwara's face throughout this match is golden. This isn't about Fujiwara trying to beat Takada. This is about Fujiwara trying to manipulate Takada to beating Takada. He repeatedly lures him into a false sense of security, and has a smile on his face even when after Takada drills him. He gives him points of offense in the goal of getting him in position 2-3 moves later for something important. There are some amazing KO teases in this, and I am not sure I have ever seen Takada look so tough. Call me crazy, as I may be overrating this, but this felt like an all-time classic and is my #2 MOTY.

    Andre the Giant! Between 1990 and 1991 WWF stints, I guess he dropped by the UWF during this time. Andre thought UWF meant U Want to Fight? Clever.

    It makes no sense for the Freebirds to be against that backdrop in front of a live audience. Hayes makes a lot of anti-Native American comments before being interrupted by the Renegade Warriors. They call the Freebirds sissies. Homophobia vs Racism!

    Now THIS is the *real* chronological debut of Jamie Dundee on the yearbook. Bill announces that he is ready to start wrestling in a playful interview.

    DWB has a picture of Brickhouse Brown dolled up at MSC from the recent angle, and calls him Sweet Georgia Brown. Doug Gilbert has a list of top contenders for the tag titles and reads a list of 60s and 70s tag teams, which is pretty funny. Way down at the bottom of the list after those names is Brickhouse Brown and Danny Davis. Dirty White Girl has improved a lot on the mic, but she still isn't exactly good.

    Interesting to see what Undertaker was up to the month before he jumped to the WWF. This video is to "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" (just like almost every video in Memphis) and again shows his impressive athleticism. Lawler is out wearing the gold and all is right in the world again. Lawler is great here, as he always is. He puts Mean Mark over in a convincing way and says he has a score to settle with him because he couldn't pin him in the USWA title tournament.

    Gilbert promises to be announced as the new King when he wins the Southern title on Monday night.

    Jake's bandaging is removed. The shock of Jake not having a pupil on his affected eye was a pretty shocking moment at the time. Rude calls Boss Man's mother an array of names, saying her breath smells like an overused barf bucket. Heenan adds that those are her good points. Rude getting out of the WWF was good for him, because he reinvented himself to be more serious, and he was put in these hokey angles.

    The feud seems to have settled into a groove now. There is palpable hate, and the execution and timing of everything is really sharp. This is the best six-man tag on the yearbook, and one of the best matches of the year overall for that matter. The work on Kobashi's nose is pretty nasty, and Fuchi can't help but get in a cheapshot with a chair. Misawa/Jumbo, Kawada/Taue and Kobashi/Fuchi are all advanced nicely as rivalries. Jumbo kicking out of Kobashi's powerbomb is a great moment, especially considering how aggressively Jumbo cut off Misawa's attempted save prior to the move. Kobashi still has a little fight in him, but Jumbo smells blood and stays on him. Kobashi gets his name chanted post-match, which shows how much that performance did to get him over. Great, great match!

    Pretty bad match, but interesting to see what these two were up to in 1990.

    It's the UWWWF! Ivan is a heel again and hates both America and his nephew Nikita. It makes my head hurt to try to make sense of this in the context of the 1988 babyface turn.

    Boss Man is over! He does an outstanding interview to get over the emotion of how much he loves his mother, salvaging something watchable out of this incredibly lame feud. The performances have been so good so far in this program, even though the premise has been so bad.

    Now, Warrior has a legion of warriors. He's taking all of their team names, slowly but surely. Piper interviews Savage and Sherri, who have a few words in return for Warrior.

    After a commercial break, the Bushwhackers are cutting the cheese (not like that) and they're awfully excited about it. And later in the show, Lanny Poffo is making sausage stuffing, with Gene calling him the sausage stuffing champion. Make your own jokes. I don't know what Lanny Poffo said, but I'm laughing that he rhymed a German line with Orient Express. Jim Neidhart and Slick have a dance-off which is tremendous. A food fight starts when people start bumping into each other. Bret keeps his sunglasses on for part of it, which gives him an unfair advantage. Neidhart is having a blast!

    The entire WWF midcard is hanging out and enjoying the festivities. They had fun ribbing Lord Alfred Hays in these segments.

    This was always a memorable angle for me. My favorite thing about this match is that it was in the WON at the time that DiBiase buying everyone's ticket on the front row was a shoot. They try to buy Dustin's seat and he tears up the Benjamin. DiBiase and Virgil then sit up on either side of him. The match is laid out well. Dustin ends up getting attacked by DiBiase and Virgil while Dusty has his back turned. Dustin bleeds? On NBC? DiBiase is heeling like crazy here, and it gets over in a big way. Good stuff. That chairshot looked good on camera while still being safe too.

    It's all a moot point. Brock didn't sign on for enough dates to justify him beating Cena anyway. Disappearing for a few months after beating him would have been pretty dumb.

    It's OKTOBERFEST time. Roddy Piper is decked out in appropriate garb. Vince is not.

    Bobby Eaton kills himself for your entertainment. He's ridiculously good in this match, taking some big bumps, being thrown around like a ragdoll on the floor and in the ring, setting up some clever spots to get over Scott's power moves and getting his own awesome offense too. The claim that he was top five in the world in 1990 is actually spot on. This was an excellent, fast-paced match. I don't want to say the Steiners were bad, but Bobby Eaton was so good that I'm not sure I noticed.

    This is actually the week of 10/20. Jamie Dundee's first chronological yearbook appearance! They show whip marks on his back from an attack by Gilbert and company.

    Very, very, very quick match sees Brown and Davis pull off the upset. Dundee cuts a fired up promo about what happened earlier that's excellent.

    Dundee calls Lawler at home. He is asking to team with Lawler on Monday night in Jeff Jarrett's place. (Jarrett was touring Japan, as you saw.) Lawler accepts. The Gilberts and Dirty White Boy attack Dundee while Gilbert taunts Lawler on the phone. He puts the figure four on Dundee, which they are now pushing as a killer move, and Jeff Gaylord and Danny Davis eventually make the save. Gilbert and Idol (wearing a raspberry beret of sorts) cut a pre-taped promo with Idol explaining his heel turn. I don't know why Idol is so offended. He has done some terrible things to Lawler in the past himself. But people have short memories in Memphis. He talks up his amateur credentials and this is a good promo, although I suspect his claim to have won every single gold medal in the country can be challenged. Gilbert tells everyone to learn to love it.
