I'm not sure this amount of turnover is really all that surprising. Here's a list of active WWF wrestlers at the end of 2000 who were working in major promotions at least a decade earlier: 1. Chris Benoit 2. Ivory 3. Steve Austin 4. Steve Blackman 5. Faarooq 6. The Goodfather 7. Grand Master Sexay 8. Raven 9. William Regal 10. Rikishi 11. The Undertaker 12. Eddie Guerrero 13. Dean Malenko 14. Jerry Lawler 15. The Big Boss Man It's not significantly more and far less were long term headliners still being pushed in that position.

Well, his star ratings do correlate well with Dave's.
-
Dave, after watching the DVD, asked around and discovered that every single Superstar he asked had never voted, so he proclaimed that's complete BS. He also said he knows who voted (in management presumably) and that they wouldn't vote that way, so he concluded that it was Vince's list. He did enjoy them showing the clip where Vince said, when he inducted Austin into the Hall of Fame, that Austin was unquestionably the greatest Superstar in WWE history, and then Todd Grisham pointed out afterwards that Austin wasn't ranked number 1 because it wasn't Vince's list, it was the Superstars list.

I think they were just there (presumably after being asked by WWE) to fish for the latest information from police and neighbours.

I get the sense that Dave tries to watch all of Smackdown every week, but doesn't always succeed in a particularly busy week.
-
I did like how Dave didn't make it clear that he was linking to softcore fetish porn on the Observer website:

Especially when you do a sick chair shot to the head for the finish of the match afterwards.

Reading that thread on the BOARD: can someone explain when and why Bischoff started hating on Meltzer again? We should be past the stage where people in the business are calling him "a piece of parasitic shit".
-
Bischoff is an awesome troll.

I was amused listening to Observer Radio that Dave is trying to talk Larry Matysik out of doing a ranked list of the top wrestlers of all time, because how would you do it, it's impossible! Of course, Dave had to finish with the requisite knock about MMA rankings.
-
I think Tatanka's matches with Bam Bam Bigelow may be better than his matches with Shawn.
-
Hmm, that's not exactly accurate reporting by Dave...
-
Listening to Wrestling Observer Radio. This gave me a chuckle: "He (Mark Henry) carried Kurt Angle remember? How could you forget?" - Bryan Alvarez "It was Kurt because if Mark Henry was in with a good worker, it would have been a great match." - Dave Meltzer Of course, no-one ever said that Henry carried Kurt in that match and Henry had a great match on Smackdown around that time with Rey Mysterio, but whatever.

Remember you can never go wrong with an indy DVD or indy tickets for the WWE fan in your life that needs to be enlightened to the error of their ways!

I was thinking that marriage should come before work too.

Dave clears up the mystery of why he needs to use a VCR in 2010: Dave on the missing "Dr Death" Steve Williams obituary: That might explain not doing it now, but did Dave seriously think he'd get in the Hall of Fame when he originally died? I think Dave commented when the results came in that he was surprised at how well Williams did in the voting.

By the time of Brody's death, Flair was working full time for JCP anyway, so it's a moot point.
-
Shame on GSP! He should have let Koscheck have more offence in the fight while he was at it too.

Taking bumps on a regular basis probably isn't good for someone's long term memory.

rovert's presence is so strong it's felt even when he's been absent for most of the year!

What are his claims about the site?

Regarding Bret's book, I don't think that excuse holds water, given that it's one of the best books ever written about professional wrestling and he is a wrestling reporter. It really is a must read book for someone who covers the business for a living. Regarding the podcast, I see Bryan (and everyone else) forgets that Shawn went into the Observer Hall Of Fame in 2003, as he says how it was absolutely bullshit that people kept him out of the Hall Of Fame for being an asshole after he came back, had a series of great matches, wasn't an asshole anymore and helped WWE draw money. Kobashi didn't last as long as Michaels? Really there's not much difference when you factor in all of Shawn's layoffs over the years. Shawn not having a pat formula for a match is funny too. Putting Kurt on the list not Bret is funny given his reasoning when Marty Jannetty and Tatanka weren't even close to as bad as Tom Magee was and weren't ever going to be groomed to be the next big thing in wrestling after they were hired.

I wish it would happen. Only because I'll actually be there live. Unfortunately Brock's more likely to be fighting for UFC the night before.

I was surprised when Bryan admitted not too long ago in a radio show with Todd Martin that he still hadn't finished reading Bret Hart's biography due to its length.
