  1. Lots of USWA both from the Dallas and Memphis ends. Off the top of my head: - Steve Austin-Chris Adams feud (Which also had plenty of stuff on the KTVT show, a lot of which is on McAdam's Austin comps) - Jerry Lawler-Snowman feud that started with a famous "shoot angle" that was a lot more plausible than most - John Tatum-Bill Dundee feud (Also notable for including an angle where Tatum superkicked Tessa on the same show as Austin splashing Toni Adams, whcih got them kicked off KTVT after decades) - Unified Title Tournament (Hell of a card that fills several weeks of TV, notable and good matches include Mark Callous between WCW and WWF facing Dundee and Lawler, Terry Funk vs Brickhouse Brown, Dick Murdoch vs Samurai, Jarrett vs Eddie Gilbert, Funk vs Keirn, Lawler vs Slater, Funk vs Murdoch, Idol vs Gilbert, Lawler vs Funk, and Lawler vs Idol) - Funk wins Unified Title from Lawler - GWF hype with Mr. Oliami in the crowd and the USWA being accepted into the GWF. - Some Lawler-Kerry stuff. - Misc. stuff like Jarrett's courtship by and feud with Devasation Inc including him and Billy Travis carrying Chico Torres and Sweet Daddy Falcone to a great match.
  2. I would think that Loss won't mind, especially since he loves the famous Dave quotes about WCW thread at DVDVR. As far as that specific story goes, that's a good question. There's stuff in the WONs from that period that haven't really stuck around as stories if they were true, like the idea that Bruno/Vince vs Ventura/Danny Davis was planned for WM3. That one at least fits with how things were playing out on TV and, if true, it makes sense that plans would've changed for certain reasons (Dynamite's injury -> Bulldogs will only drop the titles to the Harts -> Davis's full-fleged turn is a perfect fit for the title switch -> at that point the Bulldogs have to be Davis's WM opponents -> but they needed a third guy both to even out the teams and to pick up the slack for Dynamite so they retconned Tito's IC Title loss so he could join in).
  3. The person who scanned Jeff's list for him had OCR on. It didn't go very well thanks to that typeset. As far as which is easier to copy, the WON has been copied illicitly a lot more post-merger than it was when it was hard copy only. That isn't to say that it didn't happen before, but it wasn't nearly as widespread and was limited to one guy. In fact, Dave has said that one of the reasons he put the newsletter back online was that it was pirated anyway. PDF is starting to become more of a nuisance. I prefer something that I can just paste into a Word document with the proper spacing and email to my Kindle. As far as fully formatted documents, the ebook formats (most notably ePub and MobiPocket) will probably be usurping PDF eventually. They can read just as well on a PC but also be read easily on ebook readers. If your reader doesn't support one, then it can be easily converted while retaining most, if not all of the formatting. They're basically zipped up HTML + images + formatting along with a location based system that maintains proper formatting regardless of how you adjust the font size, spacing, etc.
  4. It's easier to lift the newsletters that are up now.
  5. The WONs through the issue before the earliest one on the site were done on a typewriter so there's no chance of them showing up as text without someone taking the time to carefully run them all through OCR software.
  6. I checked out the crowd brawling section of the match on Daily Motion and it does look like there's a domino effect of fans being knocked down by Rock and HHH at one point.
  7. It did, but they built to it and it was on a big show, gosh darnit!
  8. From today's update: Finally!
  9. Smackdown had some great stuff but the changes with the Syfy move put a pox on the whole year. And even though the show still has good matches, it's really lifeless. I really have no excuse with Superstars at this point since I can watch Hulu on my TV via PlayOn, so somebody link me one of those Superstars guides again. And maybe what IWRG to grab.
  10. I handled this as tactfully as possible at Cageside, but boy, 2010 was lame. If the news stories weren't so interesting, following wrestling would've been a chore. Keith wrote up a fantastic, fully annotated post of the biggest stories we covered on the blog in addition to links to the best stuff we put out throughout the year that didn't tie into the top 10 stories. I'd love to watch more indy Lucha, so maybe my wrestling-related New Years resolution will be to track all of the good stuff and rip it from YouTube to watch on my media player since I'm not a fan of watching stuff on my PC. I'll also make sure to follow Cubs' HQ uploads. Aside from that, dunno what enjoyment I'll get out of 2011 if things keep going the way they were last year.
  11. You're not kidding. Let's see if I can try: "CATEGORY A" AWARDS. PICK A FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD PLACE FINISHER IN EACH CATEGORY. POINTS WILL BE AWARDED ON A 5-3-2 BASIS. THE WINNER OF THE AWARD IS DETERMINED BY TOTAL POINTS. 1. LOU THESZ/RIC FLAIR AWARD - Umm...fuck. L.A. ParK? Followed by...um... 2. MMA MOST VALUABLE FIGHTER - Brock, GSP 3. MOST OUTSTANDING WRESTLER - Daniel Bryan 4. MOST OUTSTANDING FIGHTER - Still trying to figure out if this is supposed to be a workrate category to some degree. 5. BEST BOX OFFICE DRAW - Why is there voting in a category based on objective facts? 6. FEUD OF THE YEAR - Punk-Mysterio, Parka-ParK, McMahon-Blumenthal 7. TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR - Abstaining since I don't feel comfortable voting because the TNA matches stuff may have been good but I didn't see it because it's TNA 8. MOST IMPROVED - Chris Masters, Drew McIntyre, Dolph Ziggler 9. BEST ON INTERVIEWS - CM Punk, Wade Barrett just for the accent. Anyone who votes for Sonnen just showing the world that he's a racist douchebag needs to be punched in the face. Same goes for Epic Beard Man. 10. MOST CHARISMATIC - Cena 11. BEST TECHNICAL WRESTLER - Abstaining because I didn't watch enough indy lucha. Daniel Bryan will win and deserves it enough that it's not a bad thing. 12. BRUISER BRODY MEMORIAL AWARD - I found the John Morrison garbage matches kinda fun. Does Goldust count? Regal? 13. BEST FLYING WRESTLER - Someone I probably didn't see. 14. MOST OVERRATED - Edge, Davey Richards, ROD STRONG. 15. MOST UNDERRATED - Kaval, 16. PROMOTION OF THE YEAR - WEC 17. BEST WEEKLY TV SHOW - Don't get Superstars and haven't bothered to Hulu it a lot of the time, so Smackdown by default for pre-Syfy stuff. 18. PRO WRESTLING MATCH OF THE YEAR - Undertaker vs Michaels, Bret/Dynasty vs Nexus for sheer fun. 19. MMA MATCH OF THE YEAR - Silva-Sonnen, Zombie-Garcia 20. ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - I haven't seen Tama Tonga, but c'mon, he's Haku's kid 21. BEST NON-WRESTLER PERFORMER - Serena Deeb 22. BEST TELEVISION ANNOUNCER - CM Punk, Josh Matthews, Jerry Lawler post-resurgence 23. WORST TELEVISION ANNOUNCER - Mike Tenay, Mike Goldberg, and Mike Hodgewood just to make it a theme 24. BEST MAJOR SHOW - Hell if I know. Can I count Bret Hart Appreciation Night? The elbow drop was really cool. "CATEGORY B" AWARDS. PICK ONE IN EACH CATEGORY. WINNER CHOSEN ON THE BASIS OF FIRST PLACE VOTES. 1. WORST MAJOR SHOW OF THE YEAR - All of them 2. BEST WRESTLING MANEUVER - Springboard Hart Attack 3. MOST DISGUSTING PROMOTIONAL TACTIC - Linda McMahon senatorial campaign 4. WORST TELEVISION SHOW - Impact 5. WORST MATCH OF THE YEAR - Bret Hart vs Vince McMahon 6. WORST FEUD OF THE YEAR - Fans Standing Up For WWE vs The Mainstream Media 7. WORST PROMOTION - TNA 8. BEST BOOKER - Umm. Sean Shelby for MMA but that's a different thing. Gedo and Jado because it's awesome that they have their dream job. 9. PROMOTER OF THE YEAR - AGAIN WITH THE FUCKING OBJECTIVE CRITERIA 10. BEST GIMMICK - Straight Edge Society 11. WORST GIMMICK - Vickie Guerrero is "fat" 12. BEST WRESTLING BOOK - When did the Gary Hart book come out? If not that then Chris & Nancy 13. BEST PRO WRESTLING DVD - When did MX Rarities come out? If not that then Cornette Rookie Year
  12. I would've loved to have seen that too but I meant the column that doubled as a review of this card.
  13. I beg you to post your Torch writeup.

  15. IIRC one of them allegedly had the flu. How many times had that finish been used in major matches at that point in '96? Also, Storm and Yasuraoka throwing the tag belts in is pretty funny. Anyone know why Delphin's belt didn't end up in the tournament?
  16. Did you mean this? http://57gold.com/57cp/media/finalupdate.mp3
  17. It's a huge stretch. Plus in that case, you would hope that forensics would detect that someone else was in or around the house. But then again, the Atlanta PD is apparently worse than the LAPD Fayette County Sheriff's Department, not Atlanta PD. At the time there was even an item in the WON about how they were not fit to handle a major investigation like this and that the "Barney Fife" comparison had been thrown around a lot. You're mixing up two different stories. The diary stuff came out around the time of the brain damage stuff a few months after the murders. Last week's news is about a suicide note, which was in a bible that was sent to his first wife with his other belongings (because clearly there would be no reason to search the bibles in this case!).
  18. Scott Armstrong.
  19. Shawn's freakout (while he had Bulldog in a chinlock IIRC) was edited off the replay (which I think is the main version circulating) and home video.
  20. I dunno, but it's not like we have the most detailed version of that story. Where do you think the journal came from, then?
  21. If he put it in her outdoors garbage can on top of the bags (or at the bottom of the can if it was empty), then she would've seen it when she returned and opened the can to put a new bag in.
  22. I think they were just there (presumably after being asked by WWE) to fish for the latest information from police and neighbours. I was assuming she encountered them before the news broke, but after she had found the bodies. Yup.
