I admire your candor but I feel from an "outsiders" perspective you (and others) did a poor job PR wise for the book. I don’t want to subcategorise people and groups of posters even though some have already. I think most of you have enough sense of self to know how some view you. I think a more reserved approach to plugging a book in the future will pay dividends rather than the triumphalism of this summer. Any pimping at the F4W forum by me would have been dismissed anyway. "HA-HA! WHAT A GAY BITCH!" (By the way, that story was going to be in Jericho's book before the murders happened).

"Too hot" was clearly a joke based on "too hot for TV" stuff, the Lagana deal, and the fact that yes, Bryan and Dave did push the "HE WAS SUCH A NICE GUY" stuff after covering up his role in the hazing stories that JBL got so much flack for. Hell, before the murders I even brought up that last part at DVDVR in starting a thread about whether or not Benoit got a free pass for cheating on his first wife, leaving her and abandoning his kids, and hazing younger wrestlers. Obviously I went overboard but I never really hid that.

I didn't get to proof the book. He was trying to get it cleared with the publisher to send me the manuscript but it didn't work out. Shit, I DID say that, didn't I? You've been a one-man PolishBobStupak Defense Force here, at TSM, at F4W and DVDVR. You clearly don't take criticism of the book well. And S.L.L. made that bizarre comment that Meltzer comes off as someone who would rather see Daniel Benoit die than see WWE go out of business.I was fine with the legitimate criticism of the book, and it was out there, but a hell of a lot of it was dumb. You had: - Karl Stern comparing the writing of the book to getting Jesus Christ killed. - Dave Meltzer comparing jumping off a cage onto your broken neck to Jim Carrey being really driven. - The shoot interview & book quoting being an issue when it's a perfectly legitimate piece of journalism. Pain and Passion was actually as guilty of this as Ring of Hell but you don't hear anyone ripping Heath McCoy over it, I guess because it's not a "controversial" book and Pain & Passion had end notes (Ring of Hell was planned as having footnotes but the publisher axed them for space/time considerations). And so on.

I think Clark was still doing interviews in '94 so mid-'94 sounds right.

Loser Leaves Town Podcast for 11/26/08 with CM Punk and Rob Naylor

I have pictures of him doing awful things to CP Munk. -
The best things that Dave ever wrote in the Observer:
-
http://davidbix.com/?p=25 Rob Naylor co-hosts a Thanksgiving weekend spectacular where we interview one of of the World Tag Team Champions, former World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk! A great show (with them carrying me at times) where Punk discusses his past as an independent wrestler, his matches with John Morrison, burying the hatchet with Teddy Hart, having a bunch of merchandise, and much more, including a hilarious Tony Garea story that includes a fine vocal impersonation. Plus, Punk hands the phone to his good friend François Kevorkian (who may or may not be the same one who mixed for Depeche Mode) for a fascinating and enlightening discussion. Almost 80 minutes of the most (self?-)important Loser Leaves Town Podcast EVER!

I'll send you gifts. Thanks!

From the new WON: I knew it was bad, but I didn't know it was THAT bad.

I just feel really bad for Jimmy Hart.

Speaking as someone who tends to avoid the HHHatred when it's not super-ridiculous like the recent video game stuff or Dr. Black promo edited off TV, I doubt that a lot of guys would be able to coast the way HHH does if they didn't work Vince by being the awesome bodybuilder son in-law. Most of the time he's not much more than average in the ring (it wouldn't shock me if Vince would cut down anyone else who over-relied on Irish whips like that for being "unrealistic") or cutting promos. -
The Flair on politics section is hilarious as he just speaks in the most amazingly vague generalizations the whole time that would be just as funny if he was a Democrat. When asked why he's drawn to the Republican Party, his best answers are repeating "The shape this country is in, man..." and "I just hate the word 'liberal'" over and over and over. When he gets to a specific issue in the form of immigration, it's more of the same as he doesn't actually say anything or express an opinion.

"He's ambitiously stupid" - Why Scott Keith's new book is scary bad

Another negative review at 411. Replying to a comment in his blog linking the 411 reviews: Keep in mind that he was openly pushing for wrestling writers to obtain review copies so he probably gets no money in these cases. I seriously doubt any of the negative reviewers would have paid for it. I got so fed up with that bullshit response that I replied with some venom and a link to my pre-411 review. I wonder where that will go... -

The best part of that tape is the commentary for Steiners vs Money Inc. in Spain when they inexplicably cut to a crowd shot for several minutes. Great stuff with Heenan angry that they're staring at "the Ramon family" or something like that as Monsoon and Savage (I think) note that it's not the Ramon family's fault.
