Dandy-Pirata...is that the one that Jose talked about seeing at Champions with the bloody cover?
-
I've seen the "you can win 1-0" stip used in 2 out of three falls, but not with the NWA title. At Clash 6 it was said that Louisiana commission rules would allow it for the NWA title.

Yeah, Rock spends a lot of his free time in between shooting movie scenes watching Portland and Memphis tapes.

Yeah, but had any absolutely untrained fitness model who looked like that ever come into the business and managed to improve into a seriously good wrestler? Yeah, Hokuto/Kandori smokes anything Trish ever did, but I can't think of any other Barbie-looking blondes who reached the level that Trish did, especially since she started out with zero ring experience as just a piece of eye candy.Hadn't she already been training for awhile at Sully's Gym before she came to WWE?

Wrestling Observer Recap -- 11/12/84
Bix replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in Newsletter recaps
Cornette mentions this in his book And blames Dundee. Plus neither match was in Houston IIRC. -
I remember the Malenko-Guerrero series (since I'm guessing you meant that) in ECW getting over fine everywhere. There was a small group of fans chanting "boring" at one Florida show but that was it. A better example would be the Queens ECW fans during the Rey-Juvi matches.
-
Every fan who ever attacked a heel was just crazy? Nobody was dense enough to decide that attacking the more evil competitors in these real wrestling matches was just the right thing to do?
-
That's not in the same universe as attacking a heel. Attacking the Big Bad Wolf during a performance of Little Red Riding Hood would be comparable.

Irv implies that bookstores didn't carry his first book due to controversy or something. It obviously had nothing to do with it being a minor ECW Press release

Vince also gets on "realism" kicks.

As far as the Tom Hankins bar story goes, Dave has since dismissed it as Tom being kinda naive while Patterson was grandstanding in the bar (something he did a lot) with no intention of using him as a TV job guy or having a sexual encounter with him. Dusty Wolfe (I think others may have echoed this but I'm not sure) said he saw nothing to suggest that Patterson and Lombardi had anything going on and noted that Patterson seemed incredibly loyal to Lou Dondero so it would surprise him if true. That said, Dondero worked for the WWF in the office and connected to the wrestling side while all of this was going on, so if it was true, it's not a huge stretch to think that maybe he knew about it and was okay with it, plus Irv Muchnick was able to call Lombardi Patterson's boyfriend in an article without getting sued. Oh, and Bret Hart seemed pretty sure Lombardi and Patterson were involved in some form. So I dunno, but whatever... I dunno whether or not to believe the Virgil hiring story because it's so ridiculous on every level, but it's funny. Grenier we can be pretty sure about, but they seemed to be in more of an actual relationship than straight up casting couch (Patterson's heart attack was while they were eating dinner at his house).

But...but...Scott Keith said that the Harts were the closest thing Canada had to a Royal Family...

Various Lawler belts are the same or unified into each other: 1. CWA International Heavyweight Championship 3. NWA Mid-America Heavyweight Championship 1-3 temporarily unified into... 4. CWA Heavyweight Championship 5. WCWA World Heavyweight Championship 8 unified w/ AWA title into: 9. USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship 10. USWA Texas Heavyweight Championship 11. USWA World Tag Team Championship Is this the Florida title? Don't think there was a Memphis US tag title: NWA United States Tag Team Championship Also: 12. CWA World Heavyweight Title

The Midnight Express & Jim Cornette Scrapbook
Bix replied to rovert's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Great book. The chronology really helps their legacy by putting into perspective how huge they were as draws as soon as they got put in the main event 2 months into their run, boosting the New Orleans gate by 71%, and then breaking records with the Last Stampede run 3 months later. -
Don't forget Hogan stripping Sherri en route to beating her up.

When the PG 13 shoot came out, and the information was made public, it was covered all over the place, including in the observer. When talking about the rift between Jeff and Jerry, it's notable information to illustrate how bad things have gotten between them.
-
That is a pretty simplistic summary of it. Where did I say it was a summary?
-
Jerry didn't even go to Jill's funeral.

For now, let's say that everything from here on is F4W unless otherwise noted... Hypothetically, Had Inoki beaten Ali...

I didn't mention Taylor in the Angle/HOF thread. Looking at the HBK-Angle thread at F4W, I had forgotten that I started it by comparing that match (the Angle as world champ non-title match where Michaels took Angle's finisher on the floor and off the top rope before kicking out) to the match where HHH sandbagged Eddy Guerrero as an effort to bury the SD champ. I thought I had a less coherent argument. Also, I forgot about this exchange... Bryan: Me: Bryan: Me:

Did I invoke Taylor there? I thought that was a Lugeresque hypothetical in an IM that was less about the Windham discussion and more about Angle vis a vis short term sheet darlings.
