Say, wasn't Maven supposed to be part of Evolution originally? Any excuse to post that is a good one.

That is some fantastic writing. Quick correction-I believe the case had already been moved up to the state coroner when the doctor from Nowinski's organization called, and the state office was who was called.

He was overstating the reliability of the WWE drug testing, but yeah. Jericho's whole "steroids or no steroids, something was building up inside him" point was excellent. Bryan Alvarez said something similar-he was most likely someone who always had it in him to kill two people, and the other factors made it worse. Also, Nancy Grace was about a zillion times better than she was last night.

Umm... Wow.

The problem is using the term "roid rage." The treatment of steroids -> mental issues is, in most reports, being treated as just the short bursts of rage that are considered "roid rage." When people like Joe Laurinitis say it doesn't sound like a roid rage, they're technically right, but due to the way the media is interpreting thing and nobody elaborating aside from a few doctors, it distorts the issue and comes across as "steroids could not have been a factor."

I'm 99.9999999999999% sure it was just coincidental vandalism stemming from the "family emergency" announcement, but I'm glad that somebody at the Wikimedia Foundation forwarded the info to the police.

RVD's statement on his website blames demonic posession. Really.

I'm pretty sure Regal, Finlay, & Taylor still live there.

Drug Agents Raid Offices of Pro Wrestler Chris Benoit's Personal Physician

I think it will be less "it's not steroids" and more "it was a combination of EVERYTHING." Also, just to clarify Re: WWE steroid test negatives: Vince said on "Today" that Benoit's test was "completely negative," which seems to suggest "no steroids" as opposed to "steroids with prescription." If this is the case, it means that either: 1. He was taking very expensive designer steroids that couldn't be detected. Or... 2. Somebody else peed for him. Under the current policy, an eyewitness is not required when collecting the urine, while it was a big part of the '91-'96 policy. By the way, as I always forget this, how were Warrior & Davey Boy caught using HGH in '92? Somebody tipped J.J. Dillon off and they found the prescriptions?

No way, Todd Martin is pretty awful. He did go to Vassar, though.

Is there a more loathsome personality on wrestling TV than Mike Tenay?
Bix replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
I don't mind current Jim Ross too much. No, he obviously doesn't care, but he doesn't care in an amusing way as opposed to not caring and a contemptible, distracting way like he was before his surgery/almost-firing hiatus. -
Thanks to Matthew Webb for writing this up for me: There is, we feel, a serious issue that needs to be addressed in connection with the Benoit family tragedy. Professional wrestling is a dangerous occupation and with that danger comes inherent risk. Chris Benoit wrestled a high impact style that often put his body at risk, the effects of which, will likely have mounted up over the course of his twenty-year career. In particular, Mr. Benoit’s style of wrestling will have caused inevitable damage to the head, possibly resulting in a number of concussions over his career as a professional wrestler. It is therefore very possible that Mr. Benoit could have been suffering from a mild form of traumatic brain injury known as Post-concussion Syndrome (PCS). The symptoms of PCS are numerous and include irritability, depression, lack of ability to tolerate stress, mood swings, impaired judgement and/or cognition, and slowed cognitive processing. Former WWE wrestler Chris Nowinski has carried out extensive work and research on the subject of PCS and has stated that he believes that repeated, untreated head injuries could be a major factor that contributed to Mr. Benoit’s actions. The only way to conclusively know whether PCS played any part in Mr. Benoit’s actions is for his brain to be examined for telltale neurofibrillary tangles in the brain’s cortex. Approaches have been made to the coroner in charge of the case, but have so far been denied. We believe that PCS could hold the answers to the many questions raised by the tragedy that occurred over the weekend. However the only way that we can know for sure is for a brain exam to occur. PCS has been found to contribute to the untimely deaths of a number of professional sportsmen over the years, in particular those players exposed to high-impact, physical contact. Mr. Nowinski initiated an inquiry in to the death of 44-year old Andre Waters, a former defensive back in the NFL. Mr. Waters was found by a neuropathologist to have had suffered brain damage from playing football, which lead to his depression and ultimately his suicide. Former WWE and WCW wrestler Bret Hart was also confirmed as a sufferer of PCS, due to a number of head injuries sustained over the last few weeks of his career. The syndrome caused his retirement in 2000 and two years later he sustained another head injury, which caused him to suffer a stroke and partial paralysis at the age of 44. PCS is a serious and potentially deadly problem. We urge people to campaign for the state coroner to perform a neurological exam to determine whether it was a factor in this past weekend’s tragedy. The Benoit family tragedy should not be excused, however we do hope that by looking into the possibility of PCS some light can be shed on the reasons for the events that occurred inside the Benoit residence. Therefore we urge those investigating the case to pursue every avenue, and those who are concerned with it to support us in our determined search for the truth. We may never know the full story of what occurred this past weekend, however we can hope to discover the factors that contributed towards this horrific event and make steps toward preventing future tragedies.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/27/us/27wre...and&emc=rss The main points: - The case has been moved up from Fayetteville county office to the State level, so disgregard anything about Dr. Mowell. - Chris Nowinski didn't talk to to the ME's office personally, the doctor who works with him did. - They will have the samples of various parts of the brain, so no worry about it being destroyed soon. - We should wait until tomorrow morning as Chris Nowinski is trying to get it done through normal channels. - If nothing has happened by then, we should start doing what we can. - It might not be the best idea to directly contact the state's coroner, so they don't construe anything as harrassment or get lots of calls from idiots. This also depends on if anything happens by the morning. The best move RIGHT NOW seems to be going through the media (wrestling & mainstream). - If the coroner has to send the tissue to an outside laboratory for the testing as opposed to doing it on-site, they would need the family's permission. Christopher Nowinski's website has a ton of articles about post-concussion syndrome.

Ok, I just talked to some key people... The main points: - The case has been moved up from Fayetteville county office to the State level, so disgregard anything about Dr. Mowell. - Chris Nowinski didn't talk to to the ME's office personally, the doctor who works with him did. - They will have the samples of various parts of the brain, so no worry about it being destroyed soon. - We should wait until tomorrow morning as WWE & Chris Nowinski are trying to get it done through normal channels. - Nobody knows how to get in touch with Benoit's parents to get permission, so if ANYONE knows how, email Dave Meltzer, Bryan Alvarez, and/or Alex Marvez. I'm going to split this off into its own thread.

Well, there aren't toxicology results yet, but technically he's right. As pointed out by Dr. Drew Pinsky last night on MSNBC, cycling off could have done serious damage, as well. Nothing for the Fayetteville County sheriffs/coroner yet, but I did find the Peachtree City PD's site.

So the next step is finding contact information for the Medical Examiner's Office in Fayetteville County. So far I've had no luck with Google.

Y'know, I normally don't think this sort of thing could work, but... Chris Nowinski asked the coroner to examine Chris Benoit's brain for various telltale signs of post-concussion syndrome. The coroner's response basically amounted to "LOL no." I don't think we could sway Vince McMahon into fixing the wellness policy. I DO think a grassroots campaign to get the small-town coroner working on a major case to check the brain for possibly vital evidence could work. Whaddya think?
