The thing that really got him going was being sent home from the European tour after trashing his hotel. I don't know what they said to him but it got him on the right trail. His match with Edge where he got face heat was incredible.

Is there a more loathsome personality on wrestling TV than Mike Tenay?
Tim Evans replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
Maybe it's because I was about 15 when the Original ECW was around but I always liked Joey Styles. He started to suck around 1999/2000. He was much worse in MLW than he is now. -
Or maybe Steve Austin? Probably Regal though. I think WWE did what was best tonight with Vince appearing at the start of the show. Either way, They will be made out to look like the bad guys.

Tim Evans replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
Tenay is really really bad. I think the that what really makes TNA announcing horrible is no Heel commentator with them. I like Don west as a hype man but as an announcer. But let's look at this differently now, Is there actually any good wrestling announcers out there right now not named JBL or Jim Ross? Styles, Lawler, Cole, Grisham, and Coach all suck badly. Tazz is probably the worst in WWE right now. -
I'm sorry for going off topic a little bit but Any news about ECW tonight or Smackdown taping? I know it's been reported that they are going to do a straight matches show. Is that it? I'm with Bix on this, I'm shocked that Fox News seems to be right on this.

Man oh Man what a tragedy. It sounds like Roid Rage like Fox is saying. WWE is going to have a lot of explaining to do about the wellness Policy. Shepard Smith said something like 60 guys have died in 10 or so years from drugs or other circumstances. I can only think of a few though.

If this doesn't get Vince Mcmahon and others in the wrestling Biz in front of Congress for a hearing, I don't know what will. People will blame Vince for this somehow.

WON awards front-runners for the first half of the year
Tim Evans replied to Bix's topic in Megathread archive
Lou Thesz/Ric Flair Award (Wrestler of the Year) Cena no doubt about it. I would put Mistico up there but he's way too injured right now. I think you can put Benoit up there too. Most Outstanding Wrestler Cena. Ultimo Guerrero too. Best Box Office Draw Vince Mcmahon and Cena Feud of the Year Apaches vs Billy Boy and Sexy Starr. I'll add Benoit/MVP too. Tag Team of the Year Briscoes. It's a close race between them and Hardyz. Most Improved MVP and Marco Corleone. I"m probably the only fan of his but whatever. Best on Interviews Edge with Eddie Kingston as second Most Charismatic Cena and MVP Best Technical Wrestler Nigel or Benoit Bruiser Brody Memorial Award - Best Brawler Vince Mcmahon or Gran Apache Best Flying Wrestler Should be either Laredo Kid, Super Fly or Nemsis. Will probably be Mistico cause that's the main one Meltzer knows. Most Overrated Batista or Mr. Kennedy Most Underrated Val Venis or James Storm Promotion of the Year With Meltzer thinking MMA=Pro Wrestling, I'll say UFC. Best Weekly Television Show Thinking like Meltzer here, It's TUF or Bodog. I pick Smackdown. Worked Match of the Year Cena vs Umaga from the Rumble. Other mentions include Apache/Billy Boy street fight and Hero/Kingston Loser leaves CZW. Rookie of the Year How long has Laredo Kid been wrestling? Best Non-Wrestler Vince or Burt Ward Best Television Announce JBL or Dr. Morales Worst Television Announcer Don West or the new guy in CMLL. His name escapes me right now. Best Major Show Rumble or Backlash. Worst Major Show December to Dismember Best Wrestling Maneuver Melina's new finisher. Most Disgusting Promotional Tactic Was the Savio/Invader angle this year? If not, I'll say Abyss's over blading or Vince's death. Worst Television Show TNA by far. But it will probably be ECW. Worst Worked Match of the Year Rosie vs Trump Worst Feud of the Year Angle vs Sting or Mcmahon vs Lashley Worst Promotion Shimmer Best Gimmick MVP or Grandpa Apache Worst Gimmick Kevin Thorne Best Pro Wrestling Book Probably will be the ECW book written by Meltzer's other butt buddy. Best Pro Wrestling DVD The Dusty Rhodes DVD. -
They mentioned Crash's death in the magazine. Had a whole bunch of guys pay tribute to him too.
-
Well there was a poster I saw on Cubsfan webiste where they made him look like Rey Jr. as much as they could.

Are ROH & TNA at the lowest level of buzz in their histories?
Tim Evans replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
Didn't the last TNA Impact show get the highest ratings the show has ever gotten on spike? The product is stale and nothing will change that. Well unless they get rid of Russo, mantell, Angle, Sting and the dudleys. The end of the TNA partnership has really screwed ROH. I wouldn't dare say this on DVDVR but Morshima as champion is just horrible. I'd rather see Chris Hero or maybe even Nigel as champion than fat Japanese terry gordy. That and Gabe's hate for Lucha turns me away from ROH. -
If Stephanie doesn't compare this to when JFK died and the FBI payed Papa Shango to blow up the limo, I will be upset. I can guess the 3 people behind the death angle were Gerwitz, Kevin Dunn and probably Vince. They are the only ones that matter in the company besides Steph and HHH.

Bruce Mitchell on Mark Henry being referred to as a "silverback"
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in Pro Wrestling
Bruce Mitchell is still around? I had no idea. He shouldn't worry because it's only a matter of time before Henry gets injured. -
Hardyz are another example of right booking, right gimmick, right time. The good thing is they had the wrestling ability to back it up and took huge bumps.
-
It might have for a couple weeks. Then after seeing a couple Hogan matches, people would be bored.
-
Heaven needed another hero. God speed Vince. Seriously that was great. Could care less what the haters say.
-
Cena/Sid has to happen.
-
Vince will never die. I don't even think he's human. But If he does go, I think he will be cremated and his ashes will the tossed between the graves of Jim crockett, Ted Turner and Phil Muschnick.

Suggestions for things to include in the future
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in Feedback and Suggestions
Lucha: Anything from Santo Negro's run. Felino in AAA and of course my favorite luchador mini: Picudioto. -
I'm interested but would you need a paypal account to send the money?

I watched some matches from Starcade 90. Good event I thought. Steiners vs Konnan and Rey Misterio Konnan looks jacked to the gills. Rey Sr. looks like Tony Arce with the outfit. This is basically a squash match but a good squash match. Steiners win with ease. Team Japan vs Team USSR I don't remember the names of Team Russia. I've never heard of them but they were pretty good. Team Japan is Masa Saito and Great Muta. Saito brings the suplexes and the Russians bring the suplexes and amateur wrestling. Saito wins with the Lariat/Suplex combination. Doom vs Horsemen street fight I've heard a lot of good things about this match. It's insanly awesome. They bring the hate and it's just a total brawl. Kinda reminds me of the old Memphis brawls from the studios. Barry bleeds pretty good and Ron simmons almost kills poor Arn with a spinebuster. Good match.

This is from the Horsemen dvd right? It's a great match as Morton is incredible and Flair is Flair. I've seen most of the matches you mentioned Loss, Magnum/Tully, Lawler/Dundee, Flair/Funk etc. All the matches are awesome and must sees but I still like Austin/Hart, The Los Gringos Locos formation match and LGL vs Santo/Octagon better. This could be because I'm a kid of the 90's wrestling and was raised watching this stuff. I think it all has to do with when you watched it and when you were raised. Just my opinion. Great write up Loss.

So i'm trying to get into All japan with Ditch's site and the All japan top 50 tourney over at DVDVR. I'm a lucha guy but I like the stuff i've seen from Kawada, Hansen and Kobashi. Can't stand Misawa but he's better than anyone on the TNA roster so whatever. Hansen vs Kobashi 7/7/90 I like this match. It's early in Kobashi's career so you would think he'd just get squashed. This is All japan so it's pretty competative. Kobashi gets a lot of offense and pisses Hansen off before Hansen just beats the holy hell out of him. Hansen nails a great Lariat for the win. You could tell Kobashi was going to be big and Hansen was a great opponent for him. Fantastics vs Malenko and Kikuchi 9/1/90 I don't get it. This match is sloppy as hell and Joe malenko does close to nothing as Kikuchi gets whooped. With that said, this was a fun match. Poor Poor Kikuchi. It's a wonder that guy is still alive and able to walk.

I thought this was a very good event. Every match was at least good and no real stupid finishes or run ins. That alone makes it better than TNA's Lockdown. I thought this was the year of HBK and Taker but after MVP/Benoit, This is the year of MVP. I am amazed at how much he has grown since his deubt. That match was outstanding. MVP brings something out of Benoit that I haven't seen since his fight with Regal and Finlay. The Hardyz match was good with some good tag team wrestling. I like Cade and Murdoch as they are a well worked team. I hope they continue the feud. However, before the year is over, I hope they do London/Kendrick vs Hardyz. The 3 main events were just worked beautifuly. The worst match was probably the ECW one but even that was decent. I love Vince being champion and seeing all the marks bitch and moan about it. Anybody is a better champion than Bobby Lashley. The 4 way was also good and I loved the finish. Cena winning doesn't bother me but I hope he loses the title before too long. Taker/Batista was MOTN again. Undertaker just brings the best out of Batista like HHH. I loved the table spot and the finish. Hey Loss, What did you think of Melina/Mickie? I thought that was the sleeper match of the show. Both work well together and did some inovative spots. Best match since Trish left. The only disappointment was not seeing Kennedy. I kinda wish he beat Cena after the 4 way but it's ok.
