This was awful. How did Flair get out after a week? How was he able to get the other people out? Best part was when Piper was walking backstage, he walked past a laughing David Flair and Torrie trying to get out of camera view. Poor Flair.

Ah yes, the never ending Vatos Locos vs Vipers feud. Vatos Locos were my favorites around this time as they were dressed like Kiss and throwing fire like it was a punch. This was a nutty brawls with weapons like they always did. Cibernetico shows up and then here comes Sangre Chicana. Not sure who won the match but it's not like it matters. Good brawl.

This really started off slow but got better as it went on. Man I love surly Tenyru just punching Muto in the face. I liked how Tenyru was going for a powerbomb but muto gets out of it and hits him with a knee. Good match for all the reasons you guys said.

I've been watching the 1999 Memphis TV wars between Power Pro wrestling and Kick Ass wrestling. Most of the footage is god awful but some gems are there which is featured in the yearbook for the year. In Power pro, the main feuds were Randy Hales vs Brandon Baxter and Shawn Stasiak vs Jerry Lawler. Hales is pretty much a C level Vince Mcmahon and Baxter is a good promo. Baxter brings in Michael Hayes to help battle Hales's Syndicate(Baldo aka Albert, Vic Grimes, Mick Tierney and Glenn Kulka). Hayes had a great first half the year between his awesome promos and ok matches. I'm up to May 1999 and by that time, Hales turned babyface and was off tv for the most part. Hayes loses to title to JR Smooth(Rikishi right before he joined Too Cool doing a heel samoan mafia gimmick). Kurt Angle had his first few matches in this promotion and you can tell from his first match he's head and shoulders above everyone else. Stasiak/Lawler was a good story and some ok matches. Stasiak and Brian Christopher terrorize Stacy and Lawler and even try to break in to Lawler's house. Then Stasiak's mother comes in to feud with Stacy. His mother is Mae Young by the way and was awesome.Shortly after that, Stasiak is gone and Stacy turns on Lawler. Stacy brings in the Fabulous ones for a short feud with Lawler and Dundee. It reminds me of the 1991 feud they had where it didn't get over very good or last long. By May, Lawler would be gone as he was running for mayor. Kick Ass wrestling is like if ECW moved down south and got hooked on meth. It's perversely entertaining. The shows are taped in a nightclub and they ran house shows at the same building Power Pro did. The main guys in the group were PG-13 with Midget D, Brickhouse Brown, Bull Pain, Terry Golden, Danny B, The Littles and Johnny Sorrow's favorite tag team of W.E.E.D(Dr. Bud Ganja and Motley Garcia with manager Shroom). Sid shows up in February and has a weird scene where he's accompanied by some skinhead bikers and takes two jobbers hostage and then powerbombs them. All the matches involve weapons and they play music over the matches. Really weird promotion to run Saturday mornings at 10 am but they moved to midnight on Saturdays so I guess that was ok.

That would kill the business in Florida if shows are main evented by Bull Dempsey vs Baron Corbin ever week. What I think they should do is start slowly doing shows on the road. Maybe 1 weekend a month. I think NXT is gonna have a problem when guys like Zayn, Neville and Balor are called up. They need to start giving some tv time to the college athletes they signed like Gable, Fulton, Dawkins and Mojo. And not in just jobber matches either but competitive matches vs the Indie darlings.

I didn't like this as much as you guys. It was good, especially towards the end where Misawa just blasts Vader with forearms. Something was off with Vader tho. It looked like he was gassed early and Misawa had to work overtime to get him going.

I think they booked a match between Kiniski/Bruno vs Destroyer/Baba. The three legends cut interviews including Destroyer in perfect Japanese. Touching tribute.

Yeah Tammy wasn't looking too good. Taz came off like such a dick here. I know it's his gimmick but still. Corino held his own on the mic. So did Candido for that matter.

[1999-04-30-ECW-Fort Lauderdale, FL] Yoshihiro Taijiri vs Little Guido
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in April 1999
I always liked the Guido/Tajiri matches better than the Crazy/Taijiri matches. Guido knew how to work with Tajiri better and blend styles. Fun house show match. -
[1999-04-29-WWF-Smackdown] Steve Austin & The Rock vs HHH & The Undertaker
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in April 1999
So Test must have turned between Raw and Smackdown cause he was with Shane during the Rock babyface turn. I kinda remember this but it feels like a Raw dark match than Smackdown. -
[1999-04-26-WWF-Raw] The Undertaker, Stephanie McMahon and Steve Austin
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in April 1999
I loved Taker's theme music at the time. I'm not sure what to think of this. It was pretty creepy but it had a good payoff. Big show's big boot to Simmons was real bad. Austin destroys the ministry with chairshots to the head. Taker just says "fuck this" and walks out after taking a few punches. Good segment. -
[1999-04-26-WWF-Raw] The Rock, Shane McMahon and HHH
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in April 1999
I like how even though Rock is turning babyface, he still gets a shot in on Austin calling him trailer trash. This is a much better way to turn someone face than how WCW did it with Hogan. -
[1999-04-26-WCW-Nitro] Kevin Nash vs DDP vs Goldberg vs Sting

I don't think it was ever explained. Savage helping out DDP is just wrong. Not a fan of this at all.- 5 replies

[1999-04-26-WCW-Nitro] Ric Flair in a mental institution - Part 3

That Scott Hall cameo is just so out there. Love Flair doing his dance with the other patients. Charles looks so happy on the other side of the phone.- 4 replies

Well the NWO is basically on it's deathbed so it makes sense for Bischoff to go into to more babyface behind the scenes type guy. This reminded me of when Steph accompanied HHH to the same doctor when he tore his quad back in 01.

Rey attacks Benoit and Malenko first with a dive to the outside. Rey winning feels like another ploy to hot shot the title like WWF was doing at the time with the intercontinental title.

I know I've seen this before but I don't remember it being this good. The crowd helps a lot but the work is real solid. Especially Sting hitting a modified ganso bomb on DDP and DDP kicking out.

[1999-04-26-WCW-Nitro] Ric Flair in a mental institution
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in April 1999
Charles does his best Vince Mcmahon/Ric Flair hybrid impersonation and is good at it. I've lived in Central Florida all my life and I've never seen a mental institution like that. This was pretty tasteless for sure but what wasn't back in 1999?- 5 replies

[1999-04-26-BattlARTS] Daisuke Ikeda vs Alexander Otsuka
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in April 1999
Wow I was kinda dreading this but man what a great match. Ikeda gets busted open early and that causes him to go crazy. Love the Sasuke dive by Ikeda and then Otsuka goes even more nuts with his plancha. I did not expect that at all. Great strikes and a mix of mat wrestling and american style indie wrestling. MOTYC for sure. -
I enjoyed this more than the Mania match but even I'm getting sick of the brawling Austin matches. I know he was injured so he had to work matches like this but the constant crowd involvement hurts the match. I liked the stuff with the cameras. Especially the stunner on the Rock. Vince helps Austin by taking out Shane when he runs off. I think this was before the black wedding though.

I forget if this was the match that featured Kurt Angle belly to belly suplexing Vic grimes or not? Good angle with Lawler going down with a piledriver on the floor.

[1999-04-24-MPPW-TV] Interview: Jerry Lawler & Bill Dundee
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in April 1999
I guess Lawler wasn't too mad at Dundee for no showing last week.Lawler/Dundee retained the tag title beating Kid Wikkid and Steve Bradley later on the show.
