the Benoit Tragedy's impact on your pro-wres viewing habits
sek69 replied to a topic in Pro Wrestling
I tell you one thing that was impacted by the tragedy: my online habits. I can't thank Loss enough for providing us with shelter from the stupids during all this. I tried reading DVDVR again and there's *still* people making the claim that Benoit is innocent and it's wrong to assume otherwise just because the cops say so. This is pretty much the only wrestling board I read/post at now, just because I'm reasonably confident no one here is going to spout some silly bullshit that is going to make me want to kick my dog. I'll admit when the details started to slowly surface, I thought at first the murder-suicide aspect was something being wrongly reported by the media. Pretty much by the next day I realized what was being said really was what happened and dealt with reality. It sucks, but sometimes facts get in the way of what you wish was true. That can be applied to almost any kind of fervent fandom, so it seems somewhat unfair to single out wrestling fans, but then again we're all being conned into suspending belief in what we watch is legitimate sport. If you can buy that, the sky's the limit I guess. -
the Benoit Tragedy's impact on your pro-wres viewing habits

Not to threadjack, but from just a cursory glance (especially at the Politics forum) it seems the Pit is primarily made up of people who were banned from other boards for reasons other than the jackboot thuggery of the vaunted PC Police. I am glad that TheMikeSC found a place to continue fighting the good fight against the Liberal Menace. Anything to keep the wackoids off the streets. -
Upon reading the Maven story, I'm shocked any self respecting gay man would allow his eyebrows to get that out of control.

the Benoit Tragedy's impact on your pro-wres viewing habits

It will probably be difficult to watch Benoit matches for a while when everything's fresh, and it will probably be a little jarring when Woman comes out to manage someone for a little bit, but honestly anyone who throws out all their Benoit tapes but still watches WCCW is a hypocritical douchebag. Maybe I'm just jaded but it's just part of the job when you're a wrestling fan to have to compartmentalize the fact that 3/4ths of these guys are batshit insane. Now the situation this time is a little more extreme than the usual circumstances of a wrestling death, but that will just end up meaning it will take a little longer for things to get back to normal. -
Not to mention the slo-mo replay right after.

It's not unheard of for women who marry wrestlers to end up using the same drugs they do. Just saying.

Man, watching the tribute show now is just flat out creepy. Especially when Edge says "I don't understand things like this", you can't help but wonder exactly what he's thinking.

Suggestions for things to include in the future
sek69 replied to Loss's topic in Feedback and Suggestions
Honestly, I don't think I could watch a Benoit match anymore. -
So who were the two co-workers Benoit was sending the text messages to? One obviously was Chavo, but who was the second person?
-
I can't see how they can tape 3 hours of TV, even if it's just straight wrestling matches, under the circumstances. This is so much more than the usual wrestling tragedy where someone with a history of drug use is found OD'd or dead of some form of chemically induced heart failure. Even with Owen it was just a freak accident and not the result of a murderous rampage. More power to whoever can perform tonight, even JBL seemed pretty shaken up. I guess at least Smackdown can rely on being taped to help move things along.

Yeah, fuck WWE and fuck Benoit for putting his family above a hastily thrown together PPV. I don't think there's one person who wouldn't tell their boss "hey I gotta jet" if something goes down with their family. Man, as fucked up as the business can be at times (ok, most of the time), I end up hating wrestling fans the most. Yeah, I really hate this guy right about now. Wonder if he's okay with WWE's choice of ECW champion now.

Oh man, the feedback on WO makes me want to punch babies in the face: Yeah, fuck WWE and fuck Benoit for putting his family above a hastily thrown together PPV. From the WO PPV preview: Benoit ended up not making the show, so lets hope wildpeg didn't lock Nancy in a closet and greet Chris at the door with one of her dresses on.

WON awards front-runners for the first half of the year

Not that Hansen wasn't awesome, but his punches and clotheslines looked good because he was legit clobbering people half the time since he was close to blind without his glasses on. -
Bah. You can go to Luchawiki and search for their bios and see the pics there. Suffice it to say all three Mysterii have the same general mask style so it's not as if Hijo is trying to ape his cousin.

Is there a more loathsome personality on wrestling TV than Mike Tenay?
sek69 replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
Was Bischoff telling him what to say in WCW? Cause I liked the scholarly-if-kinda-molester-looking Tenay from WCW educating the masses on all the cool Lucha dudes who were jobbing on Nitro that week. The problem with TNA Tenay is that announcing teams always have one guy who's levelheaded and one guy who's yelling and screaming. Tenay seems like he's trying to outscream everyone else and when he's sitting next to Don West that is just not going to happen at all. Ironically I like West as the David Crockett on 15 cups of coffee. He clearly likes his job and you can't help but to get into the action a little bit more when DW is marking out like a 5 year old. -
Meltz in the WON: So I guess that means Dave or one of his minions lurks either here or at DVDVR?

I think it's just the Mysterio family mask style. When Sr. was still masked it was the same style as well. Rey Sr masked: The Family Mysterio:

Are ROH & TNA at the lowest level of buzz in their histories?
sek69 replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
One thing you have to hand to TNA, they have the best looking title belts right now. ROH's look like someone copied the Watts' UWF belt for their backyard fed. -
They probably just offered the same plan anyone could buy directly from a HMO. Being a pro wrestler would put those kind of plans out of the reach of anyone working for TNA except for the upper main eventers.

To me, I just can't buy into Morishima as champ. Try as they might to get him over, all I see is a guy who looks like a fat Japanese girl. He looks like someone the WWF would have jobbing on a MSG show in the 80s. ROH just hasn't done a good job replacing all the talent they lost IMO. I just don't get all that jazzed to see random dudes who are practically interchangeable. TNA I think is just a matter of people realizing it is what it is and at this point is never going to be anything more. They're the current generation's version of the late 80s AWA only with slightly better booking. -
Also it was a good example of how Terry Funk makes everyone he faces look like a million bucks. Sure, Terry's faced some of the best ever but he's also had some less-than-stellar opponents and he's made them all look like champions.

One could argue the point that Sherri's death got more attention than Bad News, who didn't even merit an on screen graphic. Hell, having the announcers mention it rather than just having the graphic put it above any non Owen/Pillman/Eddy death.
