Lynn is boring.
-
That's why you have us vote DVDVR style!!!!!!

It can already be deemed a success. Everyone and their mother's best friend's lover is talking about this on every board I frequent.
-
Well, your opinion/version of "damn good match" is vastly different than mine, bub.
-
Possibly other family members, friends of the family, common knowledge of her family's significance in professional wrestling, wrestling media, the internet, her fathers remaining brother, the Von Erich DVD, her grandfather, etc. Something like that, possibly.

Because that's all she probably knows.

Ric Flair vs. David "Fit" Finlay Ric Flair with a nice reaction, and billed at 242 pounds. Right. Finlay out. Billed as 233 pounds. Right. JBL is a tremendous announcer, putting over both Finlay and Flair, and hyping this match as a classic. Nice early arm wringer and heel hook. Ric Flair IS the Iron Man, just like Nolan Ryan. Finlay with some nice European uppercuts, it's unbelievable to see Flair take such stiff strikes. Finlay nails Flair with a clothesline. Awesome, Finlay with a nerve hold and stomps Flair's hand, which JBL notices and talks about. JBL is greatness as an announcer. Finlay with more stiff strikes, and Flair opens up his playbook and pulls out an eye gouge and some stiff chops for some nice retribution. Flair with a difficult hip toss. Funny that Cole asks about an eye gouge being a disqualification and JBL says the ref is a close friend. Another example of good commenting, knowing your history. Finlay with some single leg crabs, and JBL brings up trying to outbox De la Hoya, nice. Indian Death Lock or as Finlay calls it, the Celtic Knot is a nice move to see in an American ring, especially a WWF ring. Finlay with a body splash across Flair's old legs, nice. Finlay goes for it again and gets pushed out by Flair, Finlay tumbles to the floor. Flair with more stiff chops and sells his leg well. Cole said it gets interesting when Flair chop blocks Finlay, yes, it is. Figure Four Leglock, and the crowd comes unglued. Finlay reaches the ropes, and Flair pulls him back to the middle of the ring. Small package by Finlay gets a nearfall. Back suplex. Hornswoggle gets chopped = awesome. Finlay with the shalleigh, and the Celtic Knot for the submisson victory. The highlight of the match was Finlay's stiff strikes, leg work, and Flair chopping Hornswoggle on his knees. These two could have had some "classic" matches back in the day together. The combination of JBL, Finlay's leg work and dirty antics, and Flair's big spots (chops/figure four), along with him chopping the little one on his knees makes this a match worth watching. **1/2

Thanks. It was a good match, as you said.
-
Really? I might have to check that out. Know of it being online anywhere Bix?
-
The Von Erich's should have a permant ban on firearms put against them.
-
I didn't know a puro buff such as yourself would lower his standards and watch the WWF. And yes, you are correct. I didn't emphasize enough how bad he's been for a while now. When was Flair's last considerably good singles match?
-
And that's exactly my point Jingus. Outside of bump contests, bloody brawls, and thumbtacks/barbed wire, what else can Foley really do that's entertaining? He can talk, as I stated earlier. He should leave the in-ring performing to the younger, more able performers. It's not a dig to Foley, I am a fan of his. I didn't like the ONS intergender tag match. Seemed like a blantant rip off of the big tag matches in ECW involving Foley-Funk-Douglas-Dreamer-Raven. And the SummerSlam match against Flair was just painful to watch. I'm a huge Flair fan, and a huge Foley fan, but they've lost the magic they once had inside the ring. It's sad to watch Flair these days.
-
Jingus the things you talk about happened three years ago. The only reason Foley ever got over was due to his amazing promos, the ability to take life threatening bumps, and his terrific brawling skills. He's a mere shell of his former self. The last "awesome" match he's been in was the hardcore match with Edge at WM, and before that the hardcore match with Orton and the six man tag on Raw. Since that time, he hasn't really done anything worth while in the ring. He can still talk though. But his other skills are gone. I was actually excited to see him face Umaga a while back, but I was greatly disappointed. Foley is out of shape, slow, and cannot take the kind of bumps that made him famous. He's the perfect fit for a GM role on ECW, not a in-ring performer anymore.

Pre-Blonds "Stunning" Steve Austin I haven't seen much of Austin during this stage in his career. Hollywood Blonds Could have been something more if he was booked properly. Him and Pillman could have been quite the force to reckon with. Losing in two straight falls against Flair/Anderson killed their momentum. Post-Blonds "Stunning" Steve Austin He was treated and booked even worse here. Losing to Jim Duggan in under a minute is ridiculous. Steve Austin in ECW Was able to showcase his incredible mic skills and charisma. I liked his comments about Bischoff. The Ringmaster The calm before the storm, a mere stepping stone into legend. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin The greatest period in American wrestling was due to this man, and his ability to do what every working American really desires. Injuries to his knees and neck considerably hindered the ability of Austin. But, his '01 run is by far one of the best runs a wrestler has ever had. He popularized wrestling into the mainstream and made alot of money for his boss. His catchphrase "What?" was cool/funny at first, but quickly ran it's course. His matches against Rock/Benoit/Angle are among the best the WWF has had since '00. His matches against Bret Hart in '96-'97 are among the greatest American matches in the last ten-fifteen years. His over the top segments (beer truck/concrete truck/gun/first stunner on Vince) are among the highest rated segments and overall best segments the WWF has ever produced. Austin had unlimited potential and could have had some mega-dream matches with Goldberg/Hogan if his pride and ego, along with injuries hadn't gotten in the way of things. His personal problems which caused him to walk away was a good decision. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin post-retirement An embarassment. In the same embarassment league as Foley.
-
I liked the HHH promo with Edge. Edge was bragging about beating Foley at WM, and HHH responds with "I retired his ass SIX YEARS AGO!"

I re-watched the 12/5/1984 WWF vs. NJPW match today. It's even better watching it now since I've been watching so much AJPW and NJPW lately. By far, the greatest tag team match I've ever seen NJPW pump out in the 80's, and the greatest heavyweight tag in NJPW's history. Simply phenominal.
-
I've filled my computer to the brim with puroresu from Ditch's now deceased web site. Liger vs. O. Hart 4/28/1991 - Great match. I really enjoyed being able to see this match again. Owen Hart outside the WWF is pure greatness, especially when in the ring with Jushin Liger. They start off with some good chain wrestling and mat work, and then bust out the moves we still see today. People say that Kid/Mask were years ahead of their time, well Liger and Owen along with some select others were also years ahead of their time. Tenryu vs. Hase 9/23/1993 - I was greatly disappointed in this match. Hase is underrated, he's fantastic. Tenryu on the other hand, totally dragged this match down. Hase was motivated and busted his ass. Tenryu wasn't and his offense was pathetic looking, his powerbomb's were so weak looking it was embarassing. Hashimoto vs. Hase 12/14/1994 - Great match, even though I don't like Hashimoto all that much. Hase's sell job of the leg was phenominal, and his offense was great, as usual. They kept picking it up a notch until the finish. Hash wrestled extremely dirty in this match, and his kicks weren't as stiff as usual, but Hase's chops were lethal looking. Chono/Mutoh vs. Sasaki/Hase 11/1/1990 - By far the greatest New Japan heavyweight tag of all-time. Just phenominal work, heat, and finish. Hase again rocks it, and Sasaki picked it up a huge notch, and this was back when Mutoh actually tried and could actually physically perform and before Chono was injured. I'd go out of my way to watch this match. Chono vs. Mutoh 8/11/1991 - Another great match involving Mutoh. The heat and work in this match was fantastic, but the ending was no surprise. One of the best New Japan heavyweight matches I've ever seen. Kobashi vs. Hansen 4/10/1994 - Kobashi is fantastic in this. Kobashi takes a nice floor powerbomb, Hansen sells amazingly, and Kobashi pulls off the upset victory. 7/28/1993 8 man elimination - Disappointing. Kawada/Taue vs. Kobashi/Misawa didn't get much time, and everyone seemed off. 6/30/1995 six man - Definitely overrated. Kawada vs. Fuchi 7/18/1991 - Fuchi is the man. I love how much of a dick he is, and Kawada isn't one to take lightly either. Good match. Misawa vs. Kawada 10/21/1992 - The start of their rivalry. A good match, but their matches get better through the years. Misawa vs. Kawada 3/27/1993 - They picked up pieces from before, and build more on to it. Better than the first. Misawa vs. Kawada 7/29/1993 - Continue to esculate their rivalry. Glimpses of hatred begin to be viewable. Misawa vs. Kawada 4/11/1994 - Another good match. I'd out this in fourth out of the ones I've watched recently though. Jumbo vs. Kobashi 5/24/1991 - A great match indeed, but I don't think as good as Jumbo's match with Kawada. The match is over before it really has a chance to get off the ground. It's a great match, but it just doesn't have the same feeling as the next match. Jumbo vs. Kawada 10/24/1991 - A great match. Kawada gets in a lot of offense, Jumbo sells really well, the heat is great, and it just has that feeling. The intangible feeling of greatness. Jumbo vs. Williams 7/20/1991 - Eh. A typical bad finish in AJPW. Not very surprising that it wasn't that good. Williams wasn't an established singles star yet, and Jumbo was on the fast decline. Kobashi vs. Misawa 4/13/1993 - Good match, but no where near the levels of their later battles in '97 through '99. They crammed alot of stuff into this match, only around 10 minutes worth after the JIP starting. Jumbo vs. Misawa 4/18/1991 - I loved this match. You could taste the hatred, and literally see Jumbo holding onto his legacy with his fingertips trying his hardest to not let the younger and better wrestler pass him by. Just phenominal. Destroyer vs. Giant Baba 3/5/1969 - I downloaded this simply because I saw Loss's star rating. I generally hate old school matches, with long drawn out rest holds and over the top incredible psychology and no action packed brawls and head drops, but I absolutely love this match. By far, one of the greatest matches I've ever seen. The Destroyer is one of the best wrestlers I've ever seen. He's amazing. 5/22/1992 six man - One of the greatest six man tags I've ever watched, and I have no problem giving this *****. What do you expect when you have Kobashi/Kawada/Misawa/Jumbo/Taue/Fuchi is a match together. The interaction between Kawada and Fuchi is great. Taue's offense is lame, but he makes it up with his *amazing* selling and willingness to take sick bumps for a man his size. Jumbo is great trying to hold on to being the go to guy. Kobashi vs. Vader 1/15/1999 - A good match. Vader impresses the hell out of me with his moonsault. Vader just steamrolls Kobashi, it's disturbing how easily he did it too. Kobashi vs. Vader 4/16/1999 - A great re-match. Kobashi gets in way more offense, and Vader works alot harder in this match. Kobashi takes alot of punishment, as usual in this match. Vader vs. Misawa 5/22/1999 - Misawa shows up to get beaten, and he gets beaten very badly here. He gets beaten so badly it's ridiculous. Misawa takes anything and everything Vader has and continues to fight on. It makes Kobashi look far less credible in my opinion. Vader's bumps in this match was impressive, considering Vader was roughly 350 pounds at the time and he's taking head drops. Hansen/Gordy vs. Tenryu/Kawada 12/16/1988 - Great, great match. I thought Tenryu was going to stink in this match, like he did against Hase. Boy was I wrong, though. Hansen is such a great asshole in this match, and he and Gordy absolutely torture Kawada and beat the crap out of Tenryu all through out this match. Taue vs. Nagata 6/6/2003 - Taue has improved his game over the years, but his chokeslams are still disgusting to see. Nagata takes a few nice bumps, and his kicks and submission holds are great. Kobashi vs. Takayama 4/25/2004 - Kobashi's willingness to take and receive punishment is disturbing and makes me feel sorry for the man. Takayama is a stiff working wrestler, and he absolutely beats the shit out of Kobashi. Kobashi is his usual Kobashi-self. Kobashi vs. Akiyama 7/10/2004 - Fantastic match. Kobashi is 37 years old, and he takes an Exploder from the top rope to the floor. Absolutely ridiculous and phenominal to say the least. People say it's being overrated at *****, but I do agree with the rating.

1. Edge - Although he's injured now, but up until his injury, he was the best heel in the entertainment side of wrestling. He can talk, and can wrestle. 2. Matt Hardy - Matt Hardy has brought the goods for a long time now. 3. Bryan Danielson - I don't think I really need to explain why he's involved in this list. 4. Nigel McGuinness - He's about to hit stride and become a huge superstar. 5. John Cena - The best main event worker in the last few years.

I miss matches like this. The heat was incredible, the workrate incredible, the heels were incredible heels, the faces were incredible faces. -
