[1993-02-21-WCW-Superbrawl III] Chris Benoit vs 2 Cold Scorpio
Phil Austin replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
A match I showed my ex girlfriend that converted her to wrestling. Just a great, and very accessible wrestling match. Other than the obvious connotations now, this is the sort of match you could show a non wrestling fan to rid them of preconceptions.- 19 replies

YES! Now we are talking. Brad is legit my favourite wrestler (and that has earned me some ribbing from those who favour the bigger 'stars'). I first got to see Brad wrestle in 1990 NWA TV over here in the UK. He wrestled a match with Ric Flair and the combination of Flair being Flair and Brad being great made me as a 20 year old 'newbie' believe that Armstrong was going to score the upset. Ever since then, I've really dug Brad's stuff-just a great, great worker. Really pleased that he is finally starting to get the recognition he deserves.

More Tenryu love from me here. And I loved the crowd reaction. Massive reaction when he was in, booing the hell out of his partners when they entered. Especially liked the triple destruction job that Nogami, Hashimoto and Mutoh did with the elbow drops on Tenryu at one point during the bout. If there is one guy I've completely turned the fence on due entirely to these sets its Tenryu. I've totally gone from 'meh' to 'OMG this guy is incredible!'

My favourite thing on the set to this point. I LOVED this. Just a tremendous match and one I could rewatch forever (although the kicking that Inoue took was really uncomfortable viewing at points!)

Oh my god, the Tenryu love from the 1996 set has certainly carried over here already. I loved this, such passion, fire and hatred. Just a great spectacle. More!

Mary-Kate Grosso if I recall rightly. I met her, but have always wondered if she is the one in the ECW crowd. I'm assuming so as they look similar.

Clearly Benoit was amazing, but to me the guy I really 'discovered' in the 1996 set was Genichiro Tenryu. I thought he was good before, but his matches with Takada really opened my eyes to just how awesome he was! Maybe not the MVP of the set, but to me he was the MAN on this set. Also, another guy who made an impression was Yakushiji. Such an enjoyable guy to watch.

The Douglas brawl with the fan took me out of this a lot, as it all felt a bit uncomfortable and unnverving after that. Is the other audio behind Joey Styles production guys trying to talk through what is going on in the crowd? I couldn't quite make out what was being said..

Was really pleased to see this. I was actually at the London show and saw the Sid attack take place live, but as I didn't have cable at the time, I never got to see it on TV. Amazed to see that you can actually see my camera flash as it takes place, as evidenced by this photo on my Facebook page... http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=4616...544&theater

Shockingly, this is my first time ever seeing this-great entertaining bout throughout. Love the Michinoku Pro style, and despite having not seen enough of him, I really love Yakushiji

[1996-10-06-AJW-Ultra Whirlwind] Manami Toyota vs Aja Kong
Phil Austin replied to Loss's topic in October 1996
I really liked this. A lot. No, it wasn't the crisp technical bout you'd hope for, but the slips etc just made it that much more exciting for me. Kong's stuff is so believably brutal...the headbutts to the back of Toyota's head, the slaps, even the basic splash off the top looks incredibly violent. I may be a little forgiving, but I thoroughly enjoyed this from top to bottom -
All good, but that 'not anymore' line so many times in a row gets annoying REAL fast!

This and the Shawn tag made me really wish we could see some of the Vince Livewire stuff, especially with 'heelish' Jim Ross involved.

[1996-08-02-NJPW-G1 Climax] Masa Chono vs Satoshi Kojima

So pleased someone else thought that about Chono's breathing. It put me off of him for a long time before I got past it.- 7 replies

[1996-08-18-WWF-Summerslam] The Undertaker vs Mankind (Boiler Room Brawl)

Amazing how everyone got on Heenan for his "who side is he on?" comment, yet noone mentions Owen doing the same with Paul Bearer here- 17 replies

[1996-06-23-WWF-King of the Ring] Steve Austin vs Marc Mero
Phil Austin replied to Loss's topic in June 1996
Excellent match. Looking back, Marc Mero would be high on my list of 'missed opportunity' wrestlers. With his charisma, decent enough microphone skills and exciting in ring style back then, he should have gone a lot further than he did -

I forgot about the little Hollywood Blondes reunion spot in the aisle at the beginning. Such a mark out moment for me at the time!- 11 replies

Ranking so much stuff would blow my mind, but the biggest discovery for me so far was the Manami Toyota v Sakie Hasegawa match. Just loved that, and really cared about wanting Hasegawa to get the victory by the end.
