If I remember correctly, the angle was Fonzie bet a ton of money on Sabu to win so that's why he got pissed at Taz. I don't remember thinking this one was anything blow away great but their 30 min DRAW in October is awesome and maybe the best match i've seen either guy in.

[1997-04-13-ECW-Barely Legal] The Eliminators vs Dudley Boys

Was there a reason to include this on the set other then it being a title change? Don't recall this being a well thought of match even at the time -
[1997-04-19-APW-Bombers Chance at Revenge] Manny Fernandez vs Robert Thompson
FLIK replied to Loss's topic in April 1997
Random pointless fact, 16 years later, Manny is still out here in the Bay Area, helping train at & run a local lucha promotion and still wrestling ocasionally. -
LOL, she was on both the 95 & 96 sets though you seemed to hate both matches she was in so maybe that's why you forgot Dunno if you have those on your re-watch list but you prob should Uh shit, i'll try & do a cliff notes version Never did say if this was included or not on the set but after the OZ/Chigusa street fight in Feb GAEA youngsters Sakura Hirota & Hiromi Kato get in the ring and pledge their allegance to Ozaki begging her to take them in as a part of her group. Post this match, they & some of the other OZ Academy members jump Hokuto because she was in 2 matches against them at the Anniversary shows later that month During the 2nd one on 4/29, Ozaki & Chikayo Nagashima vs Hokuto & Maiko Matsumoto, post match Chigusa comes out dressed in her ZERO gimmick and attacks Hokuto & Ozaki which leads to them and Devil Masami sort of forming a little bond. There's a lot of stop & start shit though with things and the trigger never fully gets pulled on it due to various things like OZ being absent for much of the rest of the year and Hokuto kinda getting pregnant. But the original end goal was supposed to be those 2 as a top heel team along with the rest of OZ' crew. They ended up putting Aja in Hokuto's spot in 98 when she came in full time and Hokuto eventually joined them in late 99 after she was back from having her 1st kid.

[1997-04-04-RINGS] Yoshihisa Yamamoto vs Tsuyoshi Kohsaka

Early days ARSION had that philosophy but it didn't take on a major level and they eventually abandoned it after a while -
[1997-02-22-ECWA-Super 8] Ace Darling vs Cheetah Master

Jim Kettner ECWA's one of the companies that really got hurt by the rise of ROH. I remember buying a few of their tapes back in the day, they'd have really shit undercards with bad ass main events with Low Ki, Danielson, SAT, etc... so when ROH started cherry picking the top guys there was no more need for them... -
Besides working Memphis he's most famous in wrestling for building rings for a lot of guys and being the top foreign wrestler for BJW in the late 90's/early 00's before they hooked up with CZW. I think his most notable match was being Shadow WX's opponent in that match whear Shadow sets himself onfire that went horribly wrong cause he burned for like 30 seconds and got fire baned from Korakuen Hall. I believe he got let go after punching Zandig because he was pissed over whear the company was headed after CZW gained influence thear. I remember him being one of the guys who had a somewhat high profile online precense with blogs and shit back when that was more of a novelty for a wrestler.

[1997-01-25-WCW-NWO Souled Out] Eddy Guerrero vs Syxx (Ladder)

I wish I could remember the details cause Waltman's told the story a few times but the gist is they had planned on this being a lot better then it was but things got fucked up for some reason Been years since I last watched this but recall liking it at tthe time- 13 replies

The marketing & booking of their involvement was piss poor but No Limit was HUGE at the time. If you're gonna bring in an outside celebrity music act on paper they weren't a bad choice.

Watched this just to see for myself and there wasn't anything about it that made me think shoot personally except for maybe the finish and even then.... Haven't seen any of their other matches to judge but this didn't come across much diffrent then most "shoot style" matches. Good match either way

Years & years ago Sheldon Goldberg wrote a big article detailing how he put the deal together to get the MPro guys over to the US & then they allegedly screwed him on money. If i'm remembering correctly he mentions that he offered to get them a WCW meeting but he said Sasuke didn't want to go because he had heat with Ultimo over something at the time....

Kuzumi had allready been Jr champ for 7 months by this point, she lost the belt a few months later to Tomoko Miyaguchi (Ran YuYu) then only challenged for it 1 more time after that. This was a jr title match as was their last one earlier on the set however (they'd had 2 earlier ones as well in 96). But Jr is just the term they use in joshi for their young wrestlers without much experience (Yagi only debued in 94) and doesn't indicate any particular style or weight class...

No comment on the post match angle or was it not included? Heh, surprised you didn't notice this. OZ' shorts split so they had to do a timeout while someone fetched some pants for her from the back Anyways, even though they feud on & off for another 8 years, with plenty of awesome tags & angles along the way this is the last really great singles match they ever managed to pull out.

Manami Toyota & Mima Shimoda vs Tomoko Watanabe & Kumiko Maekawa (AJW 01/20/97) There's others but just off the top of my head this & JWP 4/12/1997 (Street Fight) Mayumi Ozaki & Rieko Amano vs Megumi Kudo & RIE are the 2 biggest joshi matches missing from the set. JWP tag match is prob Kudo's 2nd best match all year.

[1997-01-20-AJW-Zenjo Perfection] Kyoko Inoue vs Takako Inoue
FLIK replied to Loss's topic in January 1997
This is also a unification match for the All Pacific & IWA Women's titles that Takako holds to create the short lived AJW triple crown. Yeah it's real good though I liked it 3rd out of the 3 matches from this set of TV. Best match on the show was actually the Watanabe/Maekawa vs Toyota/Shimoda tag title change that didn't make the set.- 14 replies

Depends on what perspective you want to look at it from. In terms of in ring, 97's one of my favorite years actually. In terms of business, AJW's money issues catch up to them leading to a mass exodus of talent, JWP starts to crumble due to the various issues listed above & even though they kind of feebly keep things going until early 98, FMW's women's division more or less dies with Kudo's retirement in April. Only GAEA is significantly better off at the end of the year then they were at the start. JD & LLPW just sorta maintain status quo.

Slightly off on the timeline as she wrestled a few more months after the Fukuoka match before she took time off. When she came back from that she was still having occasional high end matches though. Her getting knocked out at the AJW 30th Anniversary show in 98 was when the bottom really fell out. She was gone a good 3-4 months from that and never really regained form. Not that she hasn't had good to great matches since, just nothing like she did earlier on and at a lot less frequent basis.
