Only goes 12+ mins, their shortest match ever not counting their rookie stuff Hayabusa was more of an alter ego type thing then a traditional "masked mystery man" gimmick, like Muta/Mutoh. Everyone had allready seen him unmasked multiple times and knew he was the former Eiji Ezaki so in that sense it wasn't a big deal.

10/12/2013 Tyler Bateman vs Big Benjamin Johnson My latest match from a few weeks ago. Mostly me getting my ass kicked but I was happier with this match then a lot of my other recent ones.

I don't remember a ton about this period but Rick Steiner & Animal join Flair's group to form the Magnificent 7. Some time after this there's a really great segment where I think a Rick Steiner vs Hugh Morris match morphs into a big brawl leading to one of the greatest "better then it looks on paper" tags ever in Scott Steiner/Buff/Lex vs DDP/Cat/Booker T.

I think Steamboat is one of the most underrated promos ever, re-watching early 90's WCW and he's one of the best talkers in the company.

http://www.f4wonline.com/more/more-top-sto...estling-cartoon Being both a fan of wrestling and anime i'm doubly offended Meltz would bother to put this idiotic column on the site

Hmmm, i'd say go for 2005 then. Russo had no involvement in the company that year, Jarret was only part time main eventer after the 1st few months (I recall liking him vs DDP), Raven gets a final run on top, X-Pac has a fun run whear he was motivated for a bit, I liked the little bit that Shocker came in for, some good tag wrestling, Samoa Joe comes in, X-division is largely built around him AJ & Daniels which wasn't that spotty, Abyss is toned down compared to what he became later on, etc...
-
No fucking chance. I may be stupid and masochistic, but there's no way I'm getting into fucking TNA. Ya know, that's actually not the worst era to try out. 04 - 06 is largely Russo free and even though it wasn't the most financially successfull there was a lot of good wrestling and the angles/feuds usually made sense.

I watched the BLOW debut show since they put it up on youtube for free. Serious contender for one of the worst wrestling shows of all time featuring 2 of the all time worst matches i've ever seen (Silvie Silver vs Jewells Malone & Silvie vs Becky Bayless) and very little else of any quality (Winters match was decent and Mia Yim vs Christina Von Erie was pretty good and 5* compared to everything else on the show)

Yeah, that pretty much jives with what Zenk wrote about him. Is Zenk mentioned at all in the book?

If you're asking seriously, most female fans i've known fall into group #1. Don't think i've ever known any female fans who were strictly fans of women's wrestling. Have known a good bit who'd fall into group #3 if you replace "half nekkid chicks" with "half nekkid dudes".

She's not the greatest but i'd say she's def above average/pretty good/getting better. Touring Japan a bunch even if it was for the lowest lvl companies helped her a lot. I actually think you'd probably like her stuff if you watched a few of her matches. I wouldn't call it a desperate move to do a shoot with her either. Within the world she exist in and to the fan base she's marketed to she's a big enough name that they prob made money off it. I have a theory that you can break down women's wrestling fans into 4 smaller sub catagories 1) Wrestling fans who just like good wrestling no matter who puts it on 2) Wrestling fans who like good wrestling but ONLY if it involves women on some weird "girl power" shit 3) Average every day pervy dudes who just like to see hot half nekkid chicks 4) The Super pervy weirdo fucks, the one's buying girls stuff off their amazon wish list, ordering custom vids and getting off on how many boston crabs & head scissors there are in a match. Can't really say which group takes up what % but yeah, 3 & 4 out number the 1st 2.

I loved Onita vs Chono, wouldn't cut it at all. Easily Onita's best match in New Japan and genuinely a really great match. Helped that Chono was nice enough to not treat Onita like a bitch and squash him (Sasaki & Choshu) and wasn't pussy enough to avoid taking bumps (Muta)

Light Tubes were never used as a gimmick until mid - late 98 with I think Honma/Shadow WX being the 1st to use them and they didn't become really common until the 2000's. Light Bulbs like they used here had been done a few times and the gimmick was more that they were super hot after they'd been plugged in for a while so you could burn your opponent with them. Not too much you could do with them other then that. Kinda similar to bed of nails in that in theory it's cool but in reality it's just super limiting.

Starts in 98 but the really great matches don't come until 99

Somehow this morphed from Dave doesn't think Cena is the best big match wrestler in WWE history into Dave thinks Cena sucks. Listened to the show the other day and he actually calls Cena a good big match wrestler just not the absolute very best in company history. Also, gotta say, the conversation immediatly moving from mocking Dave for giving the "wrong" opinion on Cena & liking others more into bashing Dave for mocking other ppl for having the "wrong" opinion on Mayweather & liking others more is pretty hilariously ironic

[1997-04-19-APW-Bombers Chance at Revenge] Manny Fernandez vs Robert Thompson
FLIK replied to Loss's topic in April 1997
Yeah, the name of the building is the APW Garage. I've been to dozens of shows thear, it's basically a converted mechanics garage in the industrial district on the outskirts of town. Seats between 60 - 150 or so depending on if they feel like letting fans sit up top on the balcony and opening up the garage door so fans outside can watch. First time I went was when they brought in Mariko Yoshida for the 1st time. Maybe 50 fans thear I think, one of which was Dave Meltzer. He'd only been wrestling 2 years at this point. By 99 - 2000 he was one of the best indy wrestlers in the country. One of those guys who'd have been a much huger name had he been willing to travel or come along a few years later. The story going around was that he got offered an ECW deal to come in & team with New Jack around the same time they brought in Spike Dudley & were looking at Crash Holly but he turned them down because he didn't want to leave/move his family. And by the time the mid 00's indy boom really got going he wasn't wrestling on as regular a basis anymore. He also was one of Sara Del Rey's original trainers in another random fact... -
[1991-04-05-AJPW-Championship Carnival] Mitsuharu Misawa vs Kenta Kobashi
FLIK replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Amused by how basic this was for the first 10-11 mins and then they just start spamming big moves in the final 2-3 to take it home. Not a memorable match in any way except that it's Misawa vs Kobashi at a time when Misawa vs Kobashi didn't mean what it would later on. Still, the match works for what they were aiming for.- 11 replies

Call back to the Onita retirement match vs Hayabusa with Busa actually hitting the moonsault off the cage this time to get his win back 2 & 1/2 years later. This is another match whear i'm curious if the post match angle got cut off or you just ignored it? Gannosuke & Kanemura turn on Onita after he losses, Koji Nakagawa makes a surprise run in to make the save after he'd quit FMW a few weeks earlier. This essentially sets up Onita & the rest of ZEN back as (tweener) babyfaces and leads to the birth of Team No Respect going into 98. I'd recomend ppl check out a lot of the FMW stuff between Sept & Dec as the yearbook skips from Kanemura/Onita (Onita's heel turn) to this (Onita's face turn) but doesn't feature anything in between.

Fuck, they switched so many times that between Giant & Savage I have no clue who the hell was on the WCW side & who was NWO at the time here....and this is a PPV I own and have watched multiple times....

11/12/1993 Eddie Guerrero, Love Machine & Jake Roberts vs Perro Aguayo, Konnan & Blue Pather Crazy clusterfuck of a brawl in the best possible way. Art puts on Panther's mask and attacks Konnan & Perro to trick them. Konnan & Perro then beat up Panther after the match, Cien Caras saves him
-
Yeah there's a bunch for me who had the same gear style for so long that it still seems weird to watch them in anything else Dynamite Kansai dropping green Cuty Suzuki, the rare times she didn't wear white Chikayo Nagashima dropping yellow Great Sasuke no longer wearing the full body ninja suit For as much as he gets made fun of, the day he drops his jean shorts and goes back to regular tights sooooo many ppl are gonna be sad. Shit, I think that alone might turn him heel....

4/3/92 Cien Caras, Mascara Ano 2000 & Universo 2000 vs Konnan, Perro Aguayo & Rayo de Jalisco Jr. Great follow up to the 3/1 tag that's on the set that has Sangre in Universo's place. Exstended beat down/cut off section on Rayo is really awesome. Just a notch below 3/1
-
Heh, never knew that story. That makes for atleast 2 times NJPW has gotten burned trying to use him, the other being a G1 one year in the early 2000's that he was announced for then ended up pulling out of.
