  1. League of Champions featured a "once in a lifetime" main event tonight as Harley Race challenged Bruno Sammartino for the NWF title in a match that brought the house down. In other news, the new colour commentator on League of Champions, Roddy Piper, has moved his talk show, Piper's Pit, from the NWF Tour to the League of Champions. He says that it is now "his television programme". Meanwhile, Hulk Hogan is said to be still in hospital one week after the five on one attack on him at the hands of The Five Star faction. Roddy Piper spent the entire show crowing about it on commentary. The Harts beat Somers and Valiant while the Andersons defended their tag titles against Siva Afi and David Sammartino.
  2. Tonight's NWF Tour on Nickleodeon started with Sean Mooney and John Tolos reviewing the tournament to crown the first NWF National champion. The brackets look like this: Tolos noted that he wonders whether Hulk Hogan will be able to compete after the assault on him on League of Champions. Tolos also said it will be interesting to see what happens if both Savage and Piper win now that they are partners in the Five Star faction. Just as they were wrapping up the review, Mick Foley climbed out of the crowd and put a brown paper bag on Sean Mooney's head while making manic noises. John Tolos intervened and the retired star started brawling with Foley until officials had to break them apart! It seems that Tolos has developed a strong bond with his co-host and put his formerly bad attitude behind him. The rest of the card featured routine wins for Rick Rude, The Harts and Yatsu, and the main event saw Bobby Eaton defeat Siva Afi.
  3. I’m the guy who forced myself to love Dory Funk Jr. so y’know. I just don’t like the idea of creepy little Gestapo types trying to find dirt and piece together insanely untrue things. If people must know I very publicly opposed the alt right and even had a debate with one of them to an audience of many thousands. Yes, there are some actual fascists out there and no I’m not one. As anyone who has ever watched a single video would know. But I never brought any of that stuff into PWO at all. And I think it is entirely correct to keep the board as Pro Wrestling Only.
  4. I don’t believe what he did is remotely fair game since none of it is any argument I actually made and my positions are extremely clearly laid out in the most public way possible. What he did was dishonest and the sort of thing a propagandist with an agenda might do. I don’t see how it’s in any way in keeping with the rules of this board.
  5. I’ll just put this here. I think the practice of going to an entirely unrelated twitter feed to cherry pick things and wrench them out of content to look incriminating should not be allowed here and this sort of behaviour should be grounds for a ban. I’ve deleted my entire feed to ensure this doesn’t happen again with me but when you politely ask someone to cut something out and then they go and try to frame things to fit an entirely untrue narrative? Maybe it’s stuff like this that causes places like this board to die. I’m severely annoyed that Herodes would openly behave in such a deceitful way because we disagree over a piece of legislation which may or may not affect WWE. It’s gross and has no place at PWO. I guess I’ll go back to posting about Arenas and 1983, but seriously sort it out.
  6. How about addressing the things I've actually said in this thread rather than looking to smear through guilt-by-association, or else trawling through a twitter feed entirely unrelated to this board looking for "incriminating" information? Well, it is 2019 after all, carry on, carry on.
  7. So this article is useful on this score: https://www.forbes.com/sites/chrissmith/2015/03/28/breaking-down-how-wwe-contracts-work/#720eb2806713 Seems like it would be an IP issue.
  8. Let's take this John Cena vodak commerical ... Did he need Vince's permission to do this? Could Vince have stopped him through his contract from taking on this work? I think the WWE would justify Cena not working for other promotions as a standard non-compete clause, which would cover wrestling but not Vodka ads. So when Cena did that Vodka ad, he must have signed an independent contract for that ad.
  9. Fill me in, does Vince now prevent talent from, let's say, doing commercials a la Macho Man doing SlimJim? Or is it only wrestling matches they are not allowed to take part in?
  10. You've not presented a single argument in this thread beyond calling the things I've pointed out -- pretty bog-standard economic theory I might add -- "bullshit". This is weak and far below the standards this board once upheld.
  11. Oh and this isn't worth a podcast. People used to be able to debate things using arguments and evidence on this board. What happened to it?
  12. Say what you want about BIGLAV, it accurately predicted pretty much the entire top 20 and near enough in order, and inspired the system the boys went on to use in the follow-up project that was done. People still talk about that now. No one talks about MOS's list at all. Once again, just facts.
  13. As I've said repeatedly, there'd be a significant increase in Baron Sciclunas for sure. But Goldberg 98 (say), or peak Hogan or more recently Brock Lesnar would likely prefer the former type of contract to maximise their payday. The particular decisions of Vince are something I cannot speak to. He'll make his own risk calculations and his own power moves as he's always done.
  14. Since you asked, it's because not every job is a full-time career 9-5 sort of post. You can try to make McDonald's the sort of job that can support a family and kids with benefits and a pension all you want, but the fact remains that that will always be a job for 17-year old kids getting an early taste of work while taking advantage of flexible hours. In places where they've tried to force this sort of thing, those kids get replaced either by machines or older, more trusted members of staff. Youth unemployment rate in France is double the rate of that in the UK partly because minimum wage is flat in France while staggered by age in UK. You can look at places like Detroit and the employment bills brought in that city over history to see that these effects are not only predictable but also have been repeated many times over. This particular bill levies certain costs and obligations on the employer which they would then have to factor in to whether it is worth employing that person in the first place. To make this easier to understand in pure wrestling terms, the booker is going to go with the old trusted member of the roster over the rookie when X, Y and Z pieces of red tape (representing sunk cost, risk, etc.) are attached to even employing the rookie in the first place. It consolidates advantage to those people with jobs at the expense of those who are not currently employed. This effect can be seen over and over. It doesn't actually say anything about the employer or the corporation since no one should be forced into taking risks they don't want to. The booker might take a punt on this or that unproven worker for $X but not for $X+1. As I said earlier in the thread, there'd by more Baron Sciclunas or Ted Jr's hogging long term spots on the card, and younger workers would have to spend longer working indies to get experience to prove they were not a massive risk. As I said earlier in the thread also -- many workers would take higher pay and higher risk than lower pay plus benefits and more security if given the choice. You'd be denying those workers that choice, and in a lot of cases be denying them a job entirely. This is just reality and I make no apologies whatsoever in pointing it out.
  15. The workers you are so desperate to help would simply be unemployed. There’s no way to continue this thread without turning it into an economics lesson so I suggest letting each and every person who supports this idiotic bill to get their shots in, call me “alt right” or whatever and then lock it.
  16. The lobbyist could be to stop it spreading to other states. If one pictures California like a tumour, these things tend to start there and spread to the rest of the USA. And there are natural reasons for every sane person to want to stop that, as well as some likely insane ones like Vince.
  17. From what I read in the two things I linked it applies only to companies which are HQ’d in Cali. Does beg the question as to why Uber wouldn’t just leave but from a cursory search it does seem like they are looking to move. However Uber don’t book wrestling shows so it’s not our concern.
  18. You can call names all you want but the French youth unemployment rate is near 20%, and it is because of legislation of this nature. The idea that ALL jobs should come with benefits and a pension is absurd, many jobs especially at entry level don't and can't. You became emotional. I have stated facts. I have also explained why I'm against this bill both within wrestling and more broadly. And I've questioned whether it has direct relevance to the WWE.
  19. So the trade off is more people will be unemployed and especially young people. Like in France.
  20. Cobo Arena, Detroit, Michigan Year opened: 1960 Capacity: 16,000 Legendary Match: Bobo Brazil vs. The Sheik (7/31/65) No. of shows: 377 The home of The Sheik who ran Big-Time Wrestling from 1964 onwards and shows weekly at Cobo Arena. Dick the Bruiser and Bobo Brazil were both huge draws in this area with the likes of Hans Schmidt and Mark Lewin mainstays up and down the cards over the years also. Bobo Brazil vs. The Sheik was such a classic feud they took it on the road and worked the match pretty much everywhere -- it seemed never-ending. They drew their biggest gates, however, in 1965 with the 7/31/65 match going 60-minute broadway. The venue was known for its bloody brawls. Big-Time Wrestling went under in 1980 and Vince moved in to run shows in Cobo Arena from 1984 onwards. Andre the Giant vs. King Kong Bundy drew 12,000 in 1985. In 1987, Crockett ran some shows there with mixed results and some brutal crowds (1,000 for a loaded card) but also had 7,000 for a Great American Bash date with Dusty Rhodes and The Sheik vs. Kevin Sullivan and Dick Murdoch. WCW continued to run the venue without opposition from Vince all the way until 1997 when WWF moved back in drawing almost 11,000 for a Raw show that featured The Undertaker and the Road Warriors. They last ran it in 2006. It closed for renovation in 2010 and reopened in 2015. Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Coliseum Year opened: 1960 Capacity: 10,276 Legendary Match: Jack Brisco vs. Dory Funk Jr. (7/13/74) No. of shows: 1,186 Eddie Graham bought into the NWA Florida office in 1961 and they started running weekly shows at this classic arena which was one of the destination spots for anyone who was anyone in the world of pro wrestling for almost three decades. Buddy Rogers regularly worked there as NWA champ drawing over 11,000 in 1962 against Boris Malenko. Other stars of this area included Sailor Art Thomas, Thunderbolt Patterson, Jack Brisco, Buddy Colt, and, of course, Dusty Rhodes. Billy Graham also made his name there before going to New York. Florida was known for good wrestling, smart booking, gimmick matches, and hot angles. After the Crockett buyout, JCP/WCW would run it and used it on Great American Bash tours as well as for Clash of the Champions 13 and 21, and Wrestle War 92 which featured the famous Dangerous Alliance vs. Sting's Squadron War Games match. Their last show Greed 2001 was there.
  21. It would have to be Connecticut from what I can see. And one could totally see Vince just moving his HQ. I am not for the bill and you are, but hey that's politics. Bottomline seems to be, though, that Dave didn't really need to report on this.
  22. This guy shoots it down: And reading around Uber themselves seem like they think they can work around it, see here: https://www.cnet.com/news/uber-lyft-business-could-be-upended-by-california-gig-worker-bill Last year in London there was a literal ban on Uber but they got that turned around in court -- has happened in a few UK cities actually -- so they have plenty of previous lawyering up and fighting at that level.
  23. Entirely possible. I will not respond to any name calling, but this was a decent point from Sek69. It could lead to them simply signing fewer workers or taking fewer risks on new talent. If other industries are anything to go by it will certainly not result in a situation of things remaining exactly as they are right now only with workers now having benefits and pensions. It will fundamentally change the way WWE and other wrestling companies operate -- that is assuming a situation of where this bill was federally mandated. If it's just Cali, I see them just working around it.
  24. The minimum wage is always zero and no one is entitled to a job. But I'm taking leave of this thread since you can't seem to debate it in a non-emotional way without calling names.
  25. Much much bigger companies than the WWE and much much bigger industries than wrestling have fallen to this sort of thing in the past.
