That is indeed one way to label them.

Yes, very much so. The angles, promos and attention given to feuds and stories can leave one wanting. Perhaps a lot of the work gets lost to the reality of media consumption in this era where something 12 hours old practically qualifies for an 80s DVDR set. But, yes. Maybe the company could do more before, during and after such classics to have them resonate more? Maybe its not even possible. But the work is very much there. Amen. We all have biases. Its not just kids today. Hopefully everyone is capable of acknowledging their own. Mania 4 was the first PPV I saw. I grew up on Hogan and Savage and thought Mania 6 was the greatest match ever for a while. Then I didn't. All of that stuff still holds a soft spot for me, but that doesn't make it the greatest media ever.

I love that we're out here shaming people for voting HHH (undoubtedly an awful human being and likely a mediocre pro wrestler, which makes him pretty much the median in both categories) while defending every other vote that somehow ranks Scott Steiner (despite losing a #1 vote from 2016 that must be respected) ahead of Massaki Mochizuki. Make it all make sense.

He's technically working the Tiger Mask trios on the road to TM's retirement. So he's got the night off. I don't begrudge him because I wouldn't look to punch my bump card for this show if I didn't have to, but I'm not here to be selfless!

I think this is entirely indisputable. What happens if that's the case? One can speculate and while it may not be a Vince monopoly through and through, with a host of bankrupted challengers along the way, the odds are its not great for the US business from a fan's perspective. For better or worse, and likely for the better, Turner is probably the one owner of a wrestling promotion that actually stayed out of creative. Pretty remarkable.

That would be the funniest bit ever. The NJPW Fantastica doesn't exactly scream major show, but the Takeshita/Hechicero vs. Los Guerreros has real potential and it'll be fun to see Rina work Arena Mexico. A shame that they gave Mistico the night off though.

I have no idea how or why CMLL is so fond of MLW, but am hopeful they won't be featured again in Mexico any time soon. Heel Kushida was tremendous though. He can stick around as long as he wants no matter what promotion is booking him out.

Love this as its probably the closest to what I would have. My top 3 are absolutely set. After that its more fluid. 1. Bryan Danielson 2. Hiroshi Tanahashi 3. Kenta Kobashi. 4-10: Flair, Misawa, Okada, Tenryu, Ishii and Ospreay are likely locks in some order. Satanico, Funk, Inoki, Liger, Kawada and Io Shirai are possibilities to slide into the final slot. Or maybe I'd drop one of the aforementioned names and slide both Bucks in there. For what its worth I wouldn't rank Lawler having nothing to do with moral grounds. If we're taking the high road I'm not sure we'd probably have to limit it to a dozen or two names at most. Not exactly a business that lends itself to high character.

Amen. If they ran with Tsuji when he came back and let him beat Naito right out of the gate he had a chance to be that guy. But they didn't, and he's not. It feels like Uemura is getting the next 15 minutes and if I had to I'd bet on Tsuji defending against him at WK after a Uemura G1 win. Ospreay vs. Newman feels like the big match at that show but there's no reason it needs the title. At least not the IWGP Title. So we'll what Uemura can do when given a push unless its also too late for him. But let's get onto Yuto and Oiwa sooner rather than later. Its going to be a problem if we're talking about them in 2029 the way we're talking about Tsuji & Uemura today.

I doubt I'm going to submit a ballot because I'm juggling so much at the moment without trying to figure out who goes in the bottom half without regretting every omission. But, if I do, my top 10 would likely come from this short list: Bryan Danielson Hiroshi Tanahashi Kenta Kobashi Ric Flair Mitsuhara Misawa Genichiro Tenryu Kazuchika Okada Will Ospreay Tomohiro Ishii Tatsumi Fujinami Jumbo Tsuruta Jushin Liger Bull Nakano Stan Hansen Terry Funk Toshiaki Kawada

Thanks!! Much appreciated.

Is there a solid Mistico playlist out there or is most of his work accessible by seeking things out individually? I've always found it hard to tackle the earlier part of his career.

No lower than 3 for me. And probably higher.

[1997-10-26-WCW-Halloween Havoc] Hulk Hogan vs Roddy Piper (Cage)
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in October 1997
Did they ever once state that this was a non-title match or did they pull the exact same stunt with Piper 2 years in a row? -
Not exactly a stretch to see the alignment given his age and where he was from.

This wasn't as fast, smooth or spectacular as the company's more renowned multi-man tags, but I thought this was pretty great in its own right. Incredibly heated before a huge crowd with real heat for K-DX working over the faces and a tremendous babyface comeback & win. I might even go as far as to say that I prefer a juiced to the gills Delfin working like a powerhouse than flopping around all over the place with subpar flying. ****

[1997-09-28-FMW] Atsushi Onita vs W*ING Kanemura (Exploding Cage)
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in September 1997
I happened to see this comment after seeing Kanemura run the freaking ropes so either this is wrong (betting against it) or he's a death match maniac (likely as he's grabbing and apparently not selling his leg in the home stretch). Sheer madness. -
I love her, but I doubt she'd even be among my top few women. Bull, Hokuto, Chiggy and probably Dump & Io Shirai will all rank higher. And that's just off the top of my head. But she's great.

Calling six man tags "Trios" OUTSIDE the context of Lucha
WingedEagle replied to David Mantell's topic in Pro Wrestling
Amen. -
That was indeed a PLE. Heavy emphasis on the LE. P almost left for dead. But it was a live event!

Some kids in the class may color outside of your arbitrarily drawn lines. Breathe in. Breathe out. Its all going to be okay. -
Calling six man tags "Trios" OUTSIDE the context of Lucha
WingedEagle replied to David Mantell's topic in Pro Wrestling
Maybe in wrestling. Its a quite common term in...the world. Like a "pair" for 2. A "trio" for 3. Were you ever a kid? Seen a menu? I'm all for dying on hills but please make sure said hill is actually on solid ground. By which I mean dirt, rock, a foundation upon which a pair of legs can stand.
