Just a quick one to update, but the podcast discussing the Middle 10 is now up at this link: http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/w7ueqx/SCGRadio32-RankingtheWrestleManias-TheMiddle10.mp3 This ended up being a really fun podcast, breaking down the different elements of all the shows in the Middle 10 and debating the order of the list itself, and with it being the middle group, there are many polarising views. Check it out and let me know what you think!

After taking feedback from here, there and everywhere, the latest SCG Radio is up discussing my article ranking every WrestleMania in history, the second in a three part series, this week looking at The Middle 10. The panel gets together to debate the list, breaking down the shows and any objections they have, talking WrestleManias 7, 8, 12, 13, 16, 18, 22, 24, 25 and 26, which all made it into this section of the countdown. A very interactive show some good discussion on the elements that make such a list so interesting, what should be higher or lower, and the merits of the shows themselves. Give it a listen and as always, let me know what you think! http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/w7ueqx/SCGRadio32-RankingtheWrestleManias-TheMiddle10.mp3

Yeh I've got 14 in my top 10 - nothing individually classic, but one of the more fun shows of all time.

This week we are doing Part 2 in our series of podcasts debating the rankings for all 30 WrestleManias in order, from worst to first in blocks of ten, and would like to get some feedback to read on the shows. I've written an article on what I feel are the middle 10 (if you're interested you can read it here: http://steelchair.co.uk/ranking-the-wrestlemanias-the-middle-10), and want to hear what agreements or disagreements people have with it, what they would rank higher or lower, and why. For those who don't want to read the whole article, the middle 10 are: #20 - WrestleMania 18 (2002) #19 - WrestleMania 13 (1997) #18 - WrestleMania 12 (1996) #17 - WrestleMania 25 (2009) #16 - WrestleMania 26 (2010) #15 - WrestleMania 16 (2000) #14 - WrestleMania 7 (1991) #13 - WrestleMania 8 (1992) #12 - WrestleMania 24 (2008) #11 - WrestleMania 22 (2006) We'll be debating the order on the shows and reading your responses and crediting you accordingly, so what do you think?

Love the responses here, and am happy to say I was able to read the vast majority of them on the show, which is now up to listen to at the following link: http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/aixp2f/SCGRadio31-RankingtheWrestleManias-TheBottom10.mp3 This ended up being a really fun podcast, breaking down the different elements of all the shows in the Bottom 10 and debating the order of the list itself. Check it out and let me know what you think!

The panel gets together to debate the list, breaking down the shows and any objections they have, talking WrestleManias 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11,15, 27 & 29, which all made it into this section of the countdown. So, for the next three weeks, we're going to be doing a series of podcasts debating the rankings for all 30 WrestleManias in order, from worst to first in blocks of ten, and would like to get some feedback to read on the shows. I've written an article on what I feel are the bottom 10 (if you're interested you can read it here: http://steelchair.co.uk/ranking-the-wrestlemanias-the-bottom-10), and want to hear what agreements or disagreements people have with it, what they would rank higher or lower, and why. For those who don't want to read the whole article, the bottom 10 are: #30 - WrestleMania 9 (1993) #29 - WrestleMania 11 (1995) #28 - WrestleMania 4 (1988) #27 - WrestleMania 2 (1986) #26 - WrestleMania 1 (1985) #25 - WrestleMania 15 (1999) #24 - WrestleMania 6 (1990) #23 - WrestleMania 5 (1989) #22 - WrestleMania 29 (2013) #21 - WrestleMania 27 (2011) We'll be debating the order on the shows and reading your responses and crediting you accordingly, so what do you think? EDIT - To those looking for the first time, the podcast taking the feedback and debating the list is now up at this link: http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/aixp2f/SCGRadio31-RankingtheWrestleManias-TheBottom10.mp3

I was on the defense, and didn't see the drug argument coming up beforehand. One thing that got edited off was the judge asking about Shawn Michaels, since he was noted as being a part of a lot of Nash's soma-fests and it not making too much of a difference. I actually thought the drug argument hindered their cause in some ways - they did a great job pointing out isolated moments of negligence, but I think they lacked a strong narrative to tie it together, as if it was already spoken just because it's Kevin Nash.
-
For this weeks Squared Circle Gazette, we embark upon the third of our shows with the Court Case format - The Trial Of Kevin Nash! The Prosecution attempts to charge Nash of gross malpractice for his runs as WWF Champion and WCW Booker, with the Defense strongly disagreeing with a detail-heavy debate. Talking drugs, title challengers, 1995 WWF, Starrcade 98, the Fingerpoke of Doom, Crazy Flair, Eric Bischoff, Hulk Hogan, ratings, buyrates and Vanilla Midgets, this one was a lot of fun - check it out and find out if Big Sexy is declared guilty~! http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/ixstzq/SCGRadio30-TheTrialOfKevinNash.mp3

This fucker just won't go away, will he.

Thanks for the kind words thus far - I will say I'd love to do these as a series one after the other, but the amount of research needed doesn't allow for a one week turnaround as we typically do. We have to edit a bit out of this timeline, and I'm starting to think it's more realistic to do three month periods per podcast after this to really let a lot of the notes breathe, since things only be getting more newsworthy week to week...

After a two week absence due to internet issues, we are back for the much requested second part of our History of The Monday Night War series, as we run through the first six months of 1996. Complete with detailed notes from Wrestling Observer Newsletters of the time, the panel timeline from January to the end of June, and discuss all the key talking points and take your feedback, talking Billionaire Ted, Vader, Hogan and Friends, Brian Pillman, Shawn Michaels' Mania victory, Eric Bischoff's brass balls, the debut of the Outsiders, the Ultimate Warrior, and much much more. A really fun show, check it out! http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/web/56jfgt/SCGRadio29-TheMondayNightWarin1996-Part1.mp3

Just on the Mania 12 and Good Friends, Better Enemies buyrates, Meltzer at the time tabbed them as: Mania 12: 1.2 buyrate, 300,000 buys IYH7: 0.81 and 190,000 buys

Great thread. Out of interest, is there a Meltzer-provided consensus on when exactly Nash took over as booker? Always sense a conflict in timeline with some saying it was pre-Starrcade 98, and others listing February 1999. And Russo runs away with this for me. His two WCW runs were abominable, and exposed just how minimal his role in any true success was in the WWF. I wonder how well Dusty does if judged similarly on the pros and cons of his runs overall, out of interest.

You're putting "The Barber" against a bald guy? C'mon. Perhaps. Maybe Beefcake feels people like Bad News that shave their head take money out of barber's pockets and vows to shave his beard for revenge or something ¬_¬

This week we'll be recording Part 2 of our History of the Monday Night War series, where we go through the timeline of shows and break down the key stories with backstage notes from Observer newsletters of the time. In this podcast, we'll be covering the first six months of 1996, and I want to get some feedback of people's memories, particularly if you were watching at the time, of your experiences watching. - What were your viewing habits and feelings on both shows at the time? - What do you feel was the high point of this period? - What do you feel was the low point of this period? As always, we'll be reading the best feedback on the air and crediting you accordingly to discuss your comments. So what do you think? (and if you're interested in the series, you can listen to Part 1, covering 1995 here: http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/feznb8/SCGRadio22-TheMondayNightWarin1995.mp3)

The latest SCG Radio is up, for what may be the Three Angry Men edition as we talk all the fallout of last Sunday's Royal Rumble, the Reigns/Bryan dynamic, historical comparisons for this situation, possible directions for WrestleMania and beyond, and a state of WWE review. A fun show talking current events, check it out and as always, let us know what you think! http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/7uv2t8/SCGRadio28-TheRumbleManiaandBeyond.mp3

So for this weeks podcast we're going to talk all the fallout of the Rumble PPV as we head to Mania, and want to get some general feedback on the following: 1. With the main event now seemingly in place, how do you see the rest of the Mania card shaping up, and are you excited about it? Why or why not... 2. What are your expectations for the run between now and Mania? Will Reigns will be booed regularly or was Philly a one-off? Will the crowd get behind Bryan stronger? Is Lesnar going to be cheered? Etc.... 3. How do you feel about the landscape of WWE coming out of Mania, based on how things are shaping up? As always we'll be reading your responses on the show and crediting you accordingly. The negative atmosphere post-Rumble is obvious, but want to gauge what people are actually anticipating as a result, and all will be discussed on the show...

Meltzer wrote in a November Observer something to the effect of "Expect Benoit to get a major push in the beginning of next year", so clearly he knew some aspects of it, but maybe, like most fans at the time, with Benoit it was very much a case where you don't believe they'll go all the way until they actually do perhaps?
-
I really see an issue post-Mania this year, in that they only have one top heel that seems like a priority, which is Rollins. And I don't know how hot they can get a defending Bryan or Reigns Vs. Rollins feud.
-
Agreed on the match itself. The actual field is such a sorry state of affairs, and as much as I like Shawn and Davey, in January 95, even as a youngster it just felt like they were midcarders only getting there because the field was so weak. When a returning heel Crush makes the final three, you know there's issues. I think calling the whole show the worst requires a deep hatred of the Rumble match itself, deeper than I have.
-
That's why I used "may" for those shows, 1995 got voted for worst by somebody who sent a submission in and I'm not so negative. 93 is much the same for me, people bury it and the Rumble isn't good at all, but the undercard isn't terrible by any stretch.
