Space City! A NWA ON DEMAND Podcast 7/27/17
dknick replied to shoe's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Thanks guys. This was the best!! -
I find the search on the site to be lacking. Does this list exist in more detailed form not on PWO? Such as with links to the matches? If not I might start to try to put that together.

I have already built the app to maintain lists of promotions and wrestlers. So once you enter say WWE as a promotion, it will remember it and be presented as an option for future entries. Same for each wrestler you enter. Once I get a little bit further I will enter some screenshots so what I am doing makes sense. Thanks!!

Hi All So I wanted an iOS app to develop and work on a bit here and there, and decided to build something to track matches I have watched, assign ratings, etc. And then build some analytics on the results, as well as filter the results (by promotion, rating, wrestler, year, etc). Thought it might be more assessable and useful on my phone than in a notebook, in a spreadsheet on my computer, etc. I will post it for free in the app store when done. Anyway, 2 questions: 1) Anyone interested in beta testing? First testable version should be ready in a couple of weeks. 2) Anyone interested in helping me sort out some UI design ideas? For example I am struggling with a good way to enter the match participants. If you think of a typical iOS app, it is typically structured around a list (table, see attached picture ). I am struggling with a good idea for how set up the UI (which is currently in a table) to handle multiple match types. Think singles match ( A vs B )vs tag match (A&B vs C&D) vs three way (A vs B vs C). Anyway, thanks in Advance! Dean

Good Will Wrestling: Fixing the WWE Part Three

One thing I don't understand is if they are trying to increase Network buys, why not make Main Event the show that has the best or most important match of the week. Use Raw and Smackdown to drive your angles, but make Main Event a can't miss show, instead of just a throwaway like it is now. Playing off one of the topics you guys discussed on the show, have a hot match end on Raw in a double count out. Put the rematch in a cage the next night on Main Event. -

The more I listen to Martin, the more I think he sounds less like he is from Boston and more like ESPN's Tim Kurkjian which these already brilliant shows even more awesome. Great show guys!

I want to alter the language in the header slightly and then I would be glad to. Thanks for the idea. I might do one of these every week or two if I have time. Don't want to infringe on mookieghana's gimmick though!

So I am starting a new job next week and was just playing around with some software I use for it. I wanted to build a very simple infographic and settled on using WWE data (was tired of playing with normal business data). Anyway I used Meltzer star ratings as a means of calculating an overall 2013 WWE PPV MVP. While I usually don't pay much attention to the ratings, it at least offers a consistent and somewhat unbiased view towards performance. Anyway, I plugged the data in, messed with the filters and display some and was able to generate the below. I did set the criteria at a minimum of four appearances (thus no Lesnar, Rock or Undertaker). While is more just a fun little exercise for me, figured you all might enjoy seeing the results. So attached are the top 25 WWE PPV performers (at least in the eyes of Meltzer) from last year.

Dean, I understand where you are coming from in terms of the Dome shows and have heard your thoughts on the 2013 show before, but could you please explain what you saw in the 12/21 show in particular. I personally found that show, with the exception of the main event, pretty bad when comparing it to major NJPW iPPVs and even other Korakuen shows over the past year. I know that you liked the Honma match, but what else was there for you? I felt that the Tanahashi/HASHI, Makabe tag and Nakamura/New Japan matches were all pretty bad. Naito/Gedo I also found really disappointing. I can see more of a case for the 12/23 show, considering that the main event, opener and Ishii tag were really good. While I love the pageantry of the Dome, I just think shows in Korakuen are just more fun. While I would agree that the actual in ring on the Dome was better, I would much rather watch two and a half hours of fresh match ups at Korakuen then nearly six hours of the Dome. And I love anything that Gedo does! Should probably spice up that last statement w a few f bombs in tribute to Gedo.

I am not a huge fan but will give answering your question a try. The current Japan jr style focuses heavily on high spots, quick transitions and presenting wrestling as something exciting. I get that style isn't a favorite of lots of people. And while I enjoy it, there are lots of other genres I enjoy more. But for that style, Devitt is one of the best. His execution, smoothness and timing are all excellent. In working that type of match, there are none better in NJPW. If you want to criticize the pace, the lack of long term selling of high spots or overly quick transitions, I am with you. But for that style of match there are few better. And he obviously is viewed that way by his promotion who have pushed him on top for 4+ years now. While I have grown tired of the Bullet Club, I also though the execution of his turn was fantastic. And the first few months of the Bullet Club were such a nice change of pace, even if the act has grown somewhat stale.

I have had this on my to listen list for months and finally got the chance this week. One of all time favorite podcasts (along with Dave/Dylan on Ken Patera). Well done.

I am a big New Japan fan and have seen almost every match that has aired over the past 4-5 years. I have to say every year I tend to like the Dome show less and less (except for many of the entrances) every year. I was somewhat sour on last years show overall and feel the same about this years. I am sure I am in the minority of NJPW diehards, but I like the 12/21 and 12/23 shows so much better. NJPW at Korakuen is great. NJPW at the Dome - ehh.

Thank you Dylan for this thread. If I can find the time, I am going to try watch every one of these matches!
