Undertaker coming back to get his win back from Lesnar might be WWE's way of ensuring Lesnar remains a heel. I would imagine WWE would prefer Lesnar to remain a heel considering he's not around often and they typically use Heyman to get all of Lesnar's angles over, particularly in Lesnar's absence.

Check out Tharpe's Twitter. I seem to recall reading somewhere (maybe Tharpe's Twitter) that the company does intend on offering more footage in the coming weeks and months. I'm actually very pleasantly surprised that this much classic Houston footage has already been made available. WWE has so many classic hours of pre-Monday Night War era footage in their vaults. But, I'd venture to guess if you take out the pay-per-views, NWA Classics is offering more minutes of house show footage than WWE has in its entire first year. There's no doubt NWA Classics has already offered the better house show matches.

Matt D, I agree. It's great that this type of footage is finally being made available, even with its flaws as others have also mentioned. I'm happy for those that can enjoy it and there's certainly a lot of outstanding matches being made available for the first time ever and I'm sure there's even more to follow. Everyone who can enjoy it as is, apparently the majority of internet viewers, should subscribe. I can't and I'm not going to pretend and say I can. I didn't make the original post with complaints and wasn't going to make any NWA Classics post until someone else made the first complaint post. My vision is perfectly fine. If anything, I'm seeing it better than others are. I suspect many of you are watching on computers or small screens. I only watch video on a 40inchTV. Obviously because the screen is bigger it's showcasing the flaws greater than on the smaller screens. I hope this service succeeds in a big way. If they succeed hopefully they'll decide to offer the same footage the way it was originally intended to be seen, in 4:3 with 60 frames per second. Whether that's through streaming or a DVD release, it doesn't matter. If it succeeds, the chances I'll eventually get to enjoy it are greatly enhanced. Consider me an NWA Classics supporter. Once it looks the way it was originally intended to be seen, as it does on the Monsters of the Mat tapes, I'll become an NWA Classics supporter and DVD owner or subscriber for as long as they continue offering fresh footage the way it should be seen.

The answer concerning whether it was shot on film or video tape came back as 1, 2 and 3/4 inch TAPE. Not film, but tape. Re-read it. It says original film reels that are 1, 2 and 3/4 inch TAPE. If you don't believe me, follow up with them and ask if the original masters were shot on video tape or film. For the record, Tharpe himself later said "we didn't shoot this tape" and again referred to it as "Historical Content of the tape." That post was made around 7:30pm Eastern if anybody wants to see it. As I said, some of this footage was included in the Monsters of the Mat VHS series and if it were shot on film it would have had the film-like look. It doesn't. It looks like a live TV broadcast. There's no reason for it to look like film other than the fact they are allowing themselves to be limited by 2013 technology. Even YouTube now offers 60 frames per second so cost couldn't have been much of an issue, especially considering ROH (also not a gigantic corporation) is uploading some videos in 720p with 60 frames per second.

PhilTTL is 100% right with his posts on this subject. The only thing to add to this is that the footage was indeed shot on video tape and not on film as someone else suggested. Proof of that can be seen in the matches that have already been released on the VHS Monsters of the Mat series. So, to add to peachchaos' post just above mine: -Offer a version the way it was originally intended in 4:3 with 60 frames per second. I know some people don't notice the motion blur, but to those who do, it's a total dealbreaker. As I said, if I watch 30 minutes of footage in this type of quality, I legitimately get a headache. If ROH can do it on free YouTube videos, every pay service should. If you want to see the difference in video quality, just go to an ROH video with 720p60 as an option. 720p60, something that comes free on YouTube, allows you to watch the content the way it was actually shot without the 2013 standard limitations on uploaded videos and in the same way you see it on cable or satellite TV.

Johnny, I'm wondering why you couldn't follow some of your own advice and "move on to the next thing you "need" to bitch about?" Really, is that type of attitude necessary? Did my post contain even a fraction of your hostility? For the record, while pro wrestling is not a sport, it has always been shot with a sports live look so it should always be expected to be presented with that look. Until it looks like that, I can assure you that there isn't a sports company that will get another one of my dollars for that type of service.

4:3 should be shown in 4:3. The bigger problem for me is the film-like picture quality. I don't care if it's the internet, sports should look like live TV, not a movie. I can only watch for about 5 minutes before getting so frustrated that I have to turn it off. The one time I watched a 30 minute match I got a headache.

Off the top of my head, If I'm ranking the Flair/Steamboat complete matches that I've seen it goes: Clash 6 Meadowlands 1984 WrestleWar 89 Chi-Town Rumble Landover 1989 WCW Saturday Night 5/94 Spring Stampede 1994 Japan 1982 Boogie Woogie Jam (though my low ranking on this I'm sure has been influenced by the terrible Matt Striker commentary) WCW Main Event 8/94 I'm curious, how does everyone else rate the Meadowlands match?

The more Flair I watch, the more I appreciate him. And, that includes seeing some of his later stuff that many automatically knock because he was past his prime and generally poorly used in a rapidly changing landscape. He's my top choice and I can't honestly see anyone challenging him for it.

Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard. I think even Bret Hart once conceded that Arn/Tully put together all of the best elements from previous southern tag teams. Not only were they technically sound, but I'd say they were also easily the best talking tag team ever. The only strike against them is that they didn't have the longevity of some of the other top notch teams like the Road Warriors or Funks.

In alphabetical order: Arn Anderson Kurt Angle Steve Austin Tully Blanchard Ric Flair Terry Funk Jerry Lawler Shawn Michaels Harley Race Ricky Steamboat Genichiro Tenryu Jumbo Tsuruta Vader Barry Windham

Excellent choices so far. Here's a few not yet listed that are among my favorites all from the Atlanta's Center Stage: Flair vs. Pillman -- April 1991 Flair/Anderson vs. Austin/Vader -- November 1993 Austin vs. Steamboat -- March 1994 Flair vs. Steamboat -- May 1994 Flair/Austin vs. Steamboat/Sting -- July 1994 Vader vs. Dustin Rhodes -- late 1994 Looking at all the selections thus far, I'd really think that the once rumored Flair Unreleased DVD set would be a big seller, especially when considering these are only the studio matches -- the tip of the iceberg. Hopefully it gets the green light one of these days.

Hogan retaining the world title at the August 1994 Clash immediately stands out to me. It basically sent the message to fans of the pre-Hogan era WCW that they could tune out or else stay and continue to see the company disrespect the old guard in an effort to bring in cartoonish Hogan friends such as Duggan and Honky. It also made no sense from a storyline perspective given the retirement match that was looming. Furthermore, if Flair and Hogan both score pinfall victories, even if Flair is cheating, it keeps them both strong and keeps most WCW loyalists and Hogan bandwagon jumpers interested translating into a significant boost in business. Instead, all they accomplished was a slight boost in pay-per-view buyrates and TV ratings.
-
That makes sense. I obviously had it wrong. Back on topic, my favorite Race match was the August 31, 1983 match against Flair that appears on the Definitive Ric Flair Collection WWE DVD set.

Thanks for the link. That's the same one I thought was from March. To add to the confusion, according to the link below, it's most likely July 19, 1984. midatlanticgateway.com/resourcecenter/results/pages/results_flair.htm

Thanks. For some reason, I thought that match was on March 8, 1984.
-
So is this July 19, 1984 Race/Flair match the one with Bob Brown or Missing Link?
-
Regarding Flair vs. Race on 7/19/84, what promotion was that in?
-
It's not available in Canada. Has anyone been able to fix the frame rate (film-like look) issues that people on other boards have described?

The only other match I can think of that ended during a commercial break was Mr. Perfect versus Rick Martel on an early 1993 Raw. What makes that particular instance even more annoying is that on the Best of Raw set, they showed the finish as a replay, exactly as it originally aired. Commercial breaks generally don't bother me much. On the other hand, I remember being a little frustrated when the first commercial aired, or the one immediately preceding the return from the break, was any kind of company commercial. It really seemed to devalue the show, and more specifically the match airing, when the company could have easily run that commercial at any other point during a two hour show instead of taking time away from the action. It seemed illogical. At this point, I'm used to it.

I would think Hogan, Batista or CM Punk would be the most likely to induct Warrior (in order of most to least likely). As far as the speech goes, I would imagine the show will only air on WWE Network and I'd think they'd likely put him on a two minute delay, or something like that, just in case.

Good Will Wrestling: WWE Network Reaction
BlueGuy replied to Loss's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I know, it's television contracts. We were late with netflix too. One of the problems is that NXT airs here, exclusively on The Score, so having it on the network is an issue. I'm pretty sure the bigger issue is that Sportsnet360 has the exclusive Canadian web rights for Raw, Smackdown, Vintage and NXT. That's really the biggest difference between WWE content in the two countries. NBCUniversal never had the exclusive web rights.
