  1. Wasn't he in the AWA, Parv? I thought he had the Hasbro deal which provided him from using the Slaughter gimmick in WWF.
  2. I won't speak for soup but i'm guessing he was looking at the beginning of 1990 for the roster list - which could be why Slaughter slipped through. You should totally book a card with those missed. And dont forget to vote!
  3. Thanks Kelly! Was a blast to do (and I'm really glad we did part 2 yesterday for a fresh 1.5 hours) and put together for the site.

  5. This sounds great, definitely want to check it out. Does anyone remember what happened the next night on Nitro?
  6. Within the Place to Be Nation link, there are links to the rules and also to the draft results (in a tidy little grid format which ended up looking pretty good :patsback:). I'd strongly recommend listening to the Parv meltdowns on the show before seeing the results without context Very entertaining.

  8. Breakdown 1998 Triple Threat Cage Match - I haven't watched this in forever and generally hate triple threat cage match logic (but thinking maybe they didn't have a door option in this one?). IIRC it didn't end with an escape, which makes me like it a lot more given three guys were in it. Val Venis vs. Rikishi - Fully Loaded 2000 - definitely Austin/McMahon from St. Valentine's Day Massacre was certainly not a classic, but it was a PPV main event attitude era cage match with a great story. I know we're talking GREAT here but I remember a lot of post PPV cage matches on Raw - typically with the odds stacked against the Rock (Shane McMahon, Austin after x7 - plus I'm sure he had a couple with HHH in there in 98)
  9. I'm partial to Christian regularly doing a springboard splash out of the corner into an RKO for most ridiculous RKO finish (definitely top 5). It was okay the first time but they definitely busted it out a couple times during their feud (including the end of the SummerSlam match to cap things off).
  10. We're certainly in the minority but I liked it a good bit also. Since the crowd was dead after Undertaker/HBK, the fact that the match had little heat is typically held against it. What crippled the match was the terrible stipulation that HHH (who was the CHAMP - and the face here) could lose the title via DQ. So you have this blood feud where families are involved and the story they tell (and the announcers have to harp on) is that HHH has to restrain himself so he doesn't lose the title via disqualification. Horrible. BUT for what they shoehorned themselves into, I thought the actual wrestling was really good and liked what they did a lot. Like ***1/2 and by far not one of the worst Mania main events like its often categorized.
  11. Austin choking the Rock with the electrical cord when they're brawling near the crowd. This piece does a great job of summing up all the cuts and edits: http://www.wrestlingdvdnews.com/major-upda...1-15-dvd/36742/
  12. No blurring but as noted, some edits in the main event and of course no hanging post cell match. The others are literally the same as the anthology including the old "don't try this at home" with Benoit.
  13. Potential ticket sales playing off consumer's perception of cage matches. That said, I'm not sure if the USWA made any money in the early 90s anyway but from a business standpoint, despite the letdown, I can see why they'd still trot it out there.
  14. Espectro Jr., Satanico y MS-1 vs. Mocho Cota, Sangre Chicana y La Fiera (9/30/83) Tornado tag team chaos here as the heels use their size advantage to pretty much do an extended multi-king(s?) of the mountain sequence and go 2 on 1 or 3 on 1 on whomever they can get their hands on. Faces get their hands on Satanico in fall #2 and switch roles with the heels as they now control with the majority and get the submission. Crowd is going ape shit for this too. Faces still in command for the final fall, working over Satanico again for a bit before getting their hands on Espectro, who has his mask ripped off and the contest is over. Chaos + hot crowd = ***
  15. MS-1 vs. Sangre Chicana (9/23/83) MS-1 kicks the shit out of Chicana outside the ring to start. Heels and their short kicks to the head are becoming a staple here and I love it. Builds heat and is just a dick thing to do as the face is out of it and is trying to come back. Chicana already bleeding as his mother tries to help clean him up. MS-1 eventually takes him into the ring and hits the top rope splash for the first fall. Assault continues into the second fall until Chicana finally ducks and hits two big blows which sends MS-1 from the ring. Chicana hits a big dive and wins by countout to even things up. The third fall sees both men bleeding with MS-1 having done the manly blade job here. He hits a big dive to the outside but only gets two. They continue to slug it out with each punch being sold brilliantly. MS-1 goes for another dive but Chicana has wisened up and steps to the side as MS-1 wipes out. Back in, Chicano dropkicks MS-1 to the outside and connects with his dive as they splatter into the first row. The one guy in the crowd didn't want to move either and was pleading for them to not do it. Too funny. Back in, both guys trade two counts and they've built really nice to this, rather than it seeming rushed. MS-1 goes back to what gave him the first fall. Splash sees Chicana roll out of the way and then MS-1 tries for a senton and Chicana forces him into an arm and neck submission for the win. Here's what makes this match terrific: 1 - The early brutality is sold throughout the match. Both guys bleed but they earn that juice with their selling. This accentuates the stip and seriousness of the fight. 2 - Chicana's eventual comeback gets a great pop and it's only two punches but they are BIG punches, which MS-1 sells like death. 3 - The falls are logical, crisp and don't appear out of place! Fall #1 - MS-1 destroys Chicana, eventually rolls him in the ring, hits his high spot move and gets the fall. Fall #2 - Chicana's comeback leads to a great dive that gets MS-1 counted out (despite MS-1 getting about 95% of the offense to this point - maybe more). Fall #3 - Chicana outsmarts him with dodging the dive AND the two aerial moves inside the ring. MS-1 keeps trying to put him away but eventually is doomed by these callback spots and is submitted. 4 - It's a hair vs hair match where Chicana lays in some punches and kicks post-match in order to get MS-1 in the ring and have his hair cut. 5 - Excellent camera shot of Chicana's mom looking on smoking a cigarette during the second fall. 6 - Who in the arena didn't get hepatitis after this massacre was over? So many dives with crimson masks plus the ring was a mess. *****
  16. This works wonderfully - I've already downloaded the most recent Titans, Wrestling with the Past and Brad & Chad show pods.
  17. The best part of Johnny's Stu impression was the very understated (I think Will was laughing over this - can't blame him) "What's that Richie? You want to fight me?" part at the very end of his first bit. Cracked me up as it sounded totally in character. I totally want to check out the Yoko/Bret match that Loss was talking about. They also had a very good match in White Plains in Nov 93 that made Bret's recent set as a Blu-ray exclusive: WWE Championship Match Bret Hart vs. Yokozuna White Plains, New York • November 29, 1993 That one is definitely worth checking out.
  18. Should also note - this features both Justin Rozzero and Scott Criscuolo of the Place to Be Podcast. And Soup gets an important promotion as part of the Best of PTBN.
  19. Not to speak for Parv but as the guy who generally works these up for PTBN - Titans and WTBBP typically are on alternating weekends, schedule permitting.

  21. Junkyard Dog & Mr. Olympia vs. Ted DiBiase & Matt Borne (Loser Leaves Town) (10/27/82) I want to pull this out of the Mid South set as I was watching the recent WWE Blu-ray release and, while complete, you don't get pre-match interview with the kids (with Duggan in costume) as you are describing here Parv. They just briefly flash to him during a crowd pan. You do get the entire post match interview on the WWE set though which is fantastic. Match is a solid **** and throw in the entire story/interview stuff, i'm with you at ****1/2. This was fun watching for the first time.
  22. ^ Disaster was probably too dramatic but given that CM Punk is CM Punk (look at the matches Daniel Bryan has had with Ryback), I don't think it's off to think we would have gotten a better main event than what we did.
  23. And as an outlier - I thought their commentary on the Bret/Shawn cage match was sub par with Polo just nagging about the same thing over and over. Took away from the match a bit.
  24. Yep, it worked fine up until intermission - started getting spotty right after the finish of the tag match. Horrible the rest of the way.
