I didn't care for the crowd brawling, but it works for the blood feud these 2 have going. I'll agree that Kimberly was really well-used here, she contributed just enough to garner even more sympathy for DDP. DDP played a really good gutsy-but-overmatched babyface also. Savage's heel work is absolutely the highlight. The post-match is pretty great, probably better than the match. Does this mean Nick Patrick is now a WCW ref again?

[1997-04-06-WCW-Spring Stampede] Interview: Harlem Heat
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1997
I'm with Pete on this one. Booker T's flub aside, why is this match happening? Are we supposed to be wondering how it will play out with the Heat or Luger/Giant facing each other? Luger and the Giant has been a team for what, 2 months? I get they didn't have Hogan and had to do something to garner interest. This couldn't have been the best idea tossed around to do that though. -
I really liked this finish. It gets Rocky over for being able to hang with Bret and not take a loss. It puts over the Stone Cold vs. Bret story that sadly was never returned to and it solidifies the Hart Foundation. Great stuff.

Great use of a fireball. Mankind is back in the spotlight again, which is great because I missed his promos.
-
Excellent promo to continue Austin on his path to superstardom. He puts his "excuse" out ther and doesn't sound whiny or weak in any way. Somehow it makes him seem tougher that he lost the match the way he did at WM. Which says a lot about the finish to that match and Austin's aura.
-
I also really liked Savage playing a traditional heel and showing ass. DDP did a great job with the intensity and really selling how much Savage and Liz have pissed him off.
-
I thought this was a great way to advance the DDP vs. Savage story. At the same time it was 100% obvious to anyone paying attention that DDP would rush the ring during this match, so maybe could have used some better set-up?

[1997-03-24-WWF-Raw] Owen Hart & Davey Boy Smith vs Headbangers
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in March 1997
Owen and Davey finally have their big blowup. One odd thing was somehow they worked the match with Owen and Davey working as the de facto babyfaces and they worked the tag team disintegrating into the comeback. Really good stuff there for sure. -
WCW's creative process has always been a little suspect. I suppose we should just be glad for the good stuff we did get.

[1997-03-23-WWF-Wrestlemania XIII] The Undertaker vs Sid
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in March 1997
That right there, yup. Also, the only other standout things about this match were Sid busting out the tombstone reversal and the WWF undercutting Undertaker's title win. -
Bret is great here. Both in his calling out of Shawn and stooging for Sid.

[1997-03-17-WCW-Nitro] Rick & Scott Steiner vs Harlem Heat
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in March 1997
It was really nice to see Luger/Giant coming in for backup of WCW given their recent storyline leadership of team WCW. Then we get the guy we've all been waiting for, the Stinger! Honestly, they could have done the Stinger/Hogan match at 97 and probably should have given the reaction this got. -
[1997-03-17-WCW-Nitro] Hulk Hogan and Dennis Rodman vignette / Wolfpac promo
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in March 1997
I didn't care for this. Hogan/Rodman were sorta just saying nonsense that sounded "cool." -
DDP chasing Savage to the back is yet another awesome step in his elevation. Really great segment and intense promo from DDP.
-
Really great way to set up WM13. Bret's profanity-filled promo was indeed a shock. What was Shawn doing out there again?
-
This was awful. I honestly don't get the love for Shawn at this point.
-
Bret's "turning heel" promos are so much better than his babyface promos. I really like how he's not making drastic changes, just tweaking things.
-
Another death knell for the "wCW didn't push Benoit" story. How was he the last guy on his team if he was so undervalued? The ending angle is indeed amazing, as is the big Luger comeback. You don't have to love Lex Luger, but the guy was over as Hell and the crowd eat it up every tiem he makes a big comeback or racks somebody.
-
If I'm honest this isn't the nWo's best work. They are going more for "cool" than "heel" at this point and I think that is part of where the problems start.

[1997-03-16-WCW-Uncensored] Eddy Guerrero vs Dean Malenko (No DQ)
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in March 1997
I don't know why WCW didn't put Dean in more heated feuds. This is really good, bordering on great. Dean is really at his best in intense feuds. -
Awesome angle, I wonder if they shouldn't have maybe done it on a Nitro though.

[1997-03-10-WWF-Raw] Jerry Lawler and Paul Heyman: The Great Debate
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in March 1997
This was all kinds of amazing. Lawler and Heyman are both incredible at this kind of "is it worked or is it shoot" thing that happens all the time now. Not usually this good though. -
[1997-03-10-WWF-Raw] Ken Shamrock, Steve Austin and Bret Hart
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in March 1997
I thought the beginning of Bret's heel turn proper here was really good. Whiny, but not in any way backing down from any backlash to it.
