Like I said, it applies to everyone.

You say that, but somebody I know entered his first MMA fight a few months back and in 9 seconds was knocked out cold and fractured his jaw in the process. Unless you were being literal of course... Literal, in response to people figuring he'll be hurt in the cage. He could very well get ko'd by his first punch.

The Reebok deal applies to everyone.

Does Punk belong in the UFC? Obviously, no. That being said, they're not going to put him in with a complete can. It's going to be someone with some skill and very limited experience. He'll either win or he'll lose. He's not going to get murdered or maimed in 30 seconds. He's probably going to look hesitant and nervous, then the flurry that happens in just about every low level MMA fight, and it will either end there, or they'll gas out. It'll be a spectacle, it probably won't be pretty, and after everyone will say they respect him for having the balls to get in there and get punched in the face.

Apparently Jesus Didn't Tap ain't paying the bills anymore.

Not entirely off base, but not entirely comparable either.

Not a great idea for a 36 year old who has never seriously trained let alone fought, to jump into a UFC deal. That being said, I'll watch that.

Just when you think W2BTD is the undisputed king of stupid comments, a new challenger appears. This adds nothing to the conversation except a personal insult, which is really not the tenor of this place. It's an astoundingly idiotic thing to say. It's right up there with Mr. "You're making me personally insult these wrestlers!" and why anyone should engage in a discussion with someone who has the same opinions as a 13 year old GameFAQs user is beyond me. It's better to point out the stupidity and move on. There....I fixed that last part for you.

To spur discussion: Is Nagata underrated because his peak came during a very low period for New Japan, or is he overrated as having been an Ace when the company really sucked at the time?

Just watched a tag with Liger and Mutoh teaming against Takada and Sano from'96. What really stood out is that Liger was by far the best shoot grappler of the bunch. Or, at the very least, the best at making his worked grappling look good. This surprised me a lot, and more about how good and sound Liger looked rather than how bad the others looked doing it.

For the majority here, Vince and the WWF have always been there, and generally been IT when it comes to wrestling. Even if you grew up an NWA fan, you knew sooner rather than later that The WWF was the big time, so to speak. So, that being the case, it's hard to imagine something that defines the industry for so many disappearing.

<Split> NJPW World - their version of the WWE Network
Shining Wiz replied to Sean Liska's topic in Pro Wrestling
I didn't think you were being a dick or anything. I just see this dynamic all the time as someone who kind of bridges the worlds of the tech-adept and the Luddites. There are a lot of people who don't see their computer, TV and phone all as one thing. And many of them probably don't care to. Yet we race ahead in tech discussions as if everyone is on the same page. It's interesting. To further your topic of interest, and bringing me around to realizing how strong a point you have, all these people saying "It's clunky to hook up my laptop, then I can't use it" shocked me. I have a set up where my full time monitor is my television. Mulitmedia Mac hooked up to that, wireless mouse, wireless keyboard. It all works great, and isn't all that expensive. Particularly to the guy looking to buy a 24" monitor rather than get a TV with an HDMI port. -

I was generally being sarcastic about it, but if it's a problem you can solve in less time than it takes to type out your complaint about.... -

Do people not use HDMI ports to hook their computers to their TV's? What is this? The stone age? -
+1 When it all comes down to it, if it doesn't involve the actual wrestling and accompanying necessities, I don't REALLY care. The Punk interview and all the backstage stuff is fine and lovely, but in the end I want to see good wrestling matches. Everything else is superfluous.

No one can compete with WWE by trying yo be WWE. You just come off looking like WWE light. Look at TNA. 10 years on a major cable channel, and they're still seen as wanna bes. You would need a product that looks different, feels different and is presented not as being different than WWE, but as being its own unique thing. Now, what makes it different and does that different catch on? Who knows. Maybe it's going realistic based around the Timothy Thatcher style, or going cinematic like LU. But the key is to not just say you're different than WWE, but actually be different in as many ways as possible.

CM Punk on Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling

Pro wrestling - the only business which figures if you're a fan of said business, you're an idiot.Pretty much. I don't know of any other business that has such contempt for their consumers. Politics, I guess? They at leadt give them lip service. With wrestling, the more your into it, the bigger loser you are. -
I still think the way it is now is more than simple and straightforward enough. Adding in 'attempts' just convolutes a simple idea. As for the 30 or 90 day thing....might work in some cases, might not in others. Either way, it wint happen for the very reason you want it to - WWE doesn't care to let things breathe. Sometimes that is bad, sometimes things don't need to.

They only get one actual attempt now, so how is this different? Why hamstring themselves? If the best and most logical match up is a rematch, why not? The Rumble works well as is, and world war three never worked at all. And are you saying have 40 guys in the ring, then do the countdown for the last 20? That just sounds convoluted and weird.

You can't really say that TNA made a profit at X income, therefore WWE could do the same. They're completely different companies with different expense structures. If WWE fell to TNA levels of popularity, it would be in the middle of it's death spiral, or at the very least a MASSIVE downsizing such that it would be unrecognizable.

They didn't seem overlly keen beforehand, so I don't imagine he's missed out on much. -
Take your hug and shove it you blowhard! I kid, I kid. No offense taken. Not quite that thin skinned. Now, you seem to have focused on my comment regarding the two three year hot periods. Which, admittedly wasn't a scientifically thought out position. However, I also don't think that was the crux of my post, nor do I think the points you make (which I generally agree with) negate the point I was making. All those things you point out about how Vince's worst year would be everyone else's best year? That's because those two white hot periods built such a foundation that this is the end result. My point was that, as Vince enters his 70's, there should be some concern. He's not King Midas. Not everything he touches turns to gold. For every Austin that hits huge there is a Dean Douglas, Double J, Beaver Cleaver and numerous other duds. He's made some stars, some stars have made him, and there's no science to it really. And as Vince ages, it seems as if the shows have gotten more scattershot and inconsistent than they used to. Which, when you think about it, isn't exactly shocking. The 70 year old who runs his company as succesfully as he did 10, 20, 30, 40 years before is the rarity, not the rule.
