I wouldn't be surprised if this podcast results in Cesaro getting some special attention. Maybe another little push.

If a network like MTV were to produce a Women's Wrestling promotion and stick the rocket to it's back, I think it would thrive. Put it on at the same time as Raw? Yeah, I'd think there would be competition.

Unbelievable.

I'm still not entirely positive as to what a "carny" is, in regards to pro wrestling, but I think I like guys who are "carny" more than guys who aren't.

The Bill Apter interview on the Steve Austin Show was the Parv show. About 5 minutes of Dory Funk talk followed by Jack Brisco talk. Austin originally thought Dory was incredibly boring, but as he became a great hand himself, he started to really love Dory's work.

I didn't really think much about it when it was originally announced, but I think JR calling a NJPW show will actually get me to watch a full NJPW show for the first time in my life. JR is a draw.

I think every single negative that people have of HHH is rooted in a shit ton of truth. And if you think he sucks, I really don't feel strongly enough about him to debate it. But I've always though HHH was good. Just simply good. He's a good worker. He's a decent promo. I think most of the time he infuses his current storyline into his matches. I also think he sells punches extremely well. He's great at selling an ass whooping. Like, legitimately one of the best I've seen. I think he's very believable as a heel. He's the guy who thinks he's the baddest dude on planet earth, but he's actually just a pussy with an inflated ego. Again, he's not great. But given the right opponent and story...and match gimmick..he can play his role very well.

CM Punk on Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling

Weird that he wanted Axel to get a push and not Ryback, Like, I understand that he thinks Ryback is/was unsafe, but Ryback has more charisma in his left shoe than Axel has in his entire being. -
Watched the match very recently and came away thinking that Noble put out a very good performance.

This is good shit.

I watched the Main and you were perfectly fine. Certainly room for improvement, but like I said, you were fine. The G Raver/Sabu match was just meh. I've never seen a wrestler have to blatantly put himself in certain positions for spots. Sabu is the king of just rolling himself onto a table for no apparent reason. I actually watched the first 5 minutes as well. Good intro and I like the presentation of the arena. Entrance ramp looks nice, especially with big screen playing as the mini titantron. The dude with the face paint who cut the Raven/Wyatt type promo was actually pretty decent. Was that G Raver?

Your ideas for heels that would get over today
TRMD replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
If the segments were entertaining and the guy was a solid wrestler, he would be cheered. Or at least not booed. The problem is, a good portion of wrestling fans don't really take offense to something that they know is written to offend them. Unless it's almost, kinda, somewhat, in a way misogynist or racist. The 2 most hated heels in the company are HHH and the Miz. HHH for a mixture of on screen character and off screen reality and Miz because he has a very punchable face and he is pretty good, but not THAT good at anything that has to do with wrestling. In most fans minds, at least. -

If WWE were to plant leaks on dirt sheets about a guy who is politicking for his spot and is holding others down through his real life friendship with HHH. Of course, they never mention that on camera. Then just give him an average heel gimmick and make sure he's not too good at it. Because smarks cheer what they think is good. Heel or Face. Have him go over a majority of the time. Clean. Over guys like Bryan, Ziggler, Ambrose, and Cesaro. Give him the strap in a purposely just "good" match against someone like Bryan. So fans can bitch that even Bryan can only drag something watchable out of him. Also, he can never, ever wrestle in the Indies. He also has to have the "look". You've got yourself the most hated guy in the business. And I just now noticed that I kinda explained HHH. -
Same with theme music. Rollins and Ambrose's themes literally sound like the generic songs you get on WWE games. Attire and Entrance themes legitimately matter to me. And current WWE doesn't give a shit about it. Aside from Wyatt and the Usos.

I thought the main was very good. I legitimately didn't know what was going to happen, which is always great. I wish Ryback was the sole survivor and took Ziggler's place, but I think I understand why he wasn't (The Cesaro match on Raw was obviously his test run to see if he could go 30). Overall, exciting match. Absolutely loved Rusev's flat belly bump on the table.

He got a pop and a "this is awesome" chant last night from pretty much 20,000 people. When is the last time he had that? 99? That alone is reason enough to sign with WWE. I'm surprised he didn't start crying.

I am extremely confused about GFW. Have they even held a show yet? Are they going to have a weekly TV show that I can watch? Are they going to be like TNA? Their own wrestlers who are there every week with storylines and PPV's?
-
It means I thought the matches were fun but not that good. Aren't fun matches good and good matches fun? Isn't that the point?
-
As a massive Ryback fan, I completely agree.

Austin/Rock 2 guys that check literally every box that you want in a pro wrestler. The hatred felt real. The respect felt real. They both carried an unbelievable aura. Their personalities were so different, yet their chemistry was undeniable. The Promos. The Staredowns. The Brawls. The Crowd Pops. The Catchphrases. It was Brady/Manning. It was Bird/Magic. It was Gold.

What does more fun than good mean?

He was 1/4th of the best TNA match I've ever seen (Americas Most Wanted vs Triple X at Turning Point 2004) if that means anything.

I think that is a double edged sword though in all honesty. Current matches can benefit AND be hindered by having the context around it AND having a bunch of people communicating about it over the interweb during real time. An older match tends to lack both.Well at least it does for me. Case-in-point: Just watched Steve Viedor vs Gwyn Davies. Only seen one Viedor match and nothing of Davies. All I knew was that it was a championship bout. This match completely latched on to me emotionally as if I were watching a 20+ minute Rocky Balboa fight. Stylistically there were a few things that were jarring but emotionally, something that doesn't tend to happen to me these days, I was overwhelm in the best of ways. Now, it is hard to give an example of a match that was poorly viewed during the time but aged and was viewed better cause I've probably never went back to watch those but I like to believe the point still holds some water. I was buzzing over that match for days after I watched it. I know I'm one of the youngest guys on the forum, but you do guys still have vocal reactions to matches? If I'm watching a match I'm really into, it's completely normal for me to let out a "Woo!" for a stiff shot or "Let's Fucking Go!" for a great baby face comeback. It just makes me enjoy it that much more if I treat it like a real sporting event.

I feel that it takes aways all of my enjoyment if I'm trying to be overly critical with a match. Does the selling make sense? Look painful? Does the match create emotion? Good Finish? Good Story? Psychology? That's about as far as I'm gonna go 95% of the time with my analysis. I get into wrestling. I have fun watching it. Just like any form of entertainment. If I get bent out of shape about a wrestler cutting off someones heat to early, I'm not having fun.
