  1. I go for The Lariat here. Stan edges Flair (barely) for 86.
  2. Kitten: Savage hit the wwf pretty strong by the end of the year, so sure, I'f have him in the mix. ... I keep coming back to DiBiase though :-)
  3. Yeah, it's Flair, isn't it? ... But I do like Jumbo... It's Flair!
  4. 84? Yeah, I'm Team Kerry for this one. Choshu, Sarge and the Tito vs Greg feud make them all worthy contenders though
  5. Kerry might be the one I enjoyed the most this year. But I'd go with good old Bockwinkel for 83.
  6. Oh, but the best of his year was sooo good... I'd consider Savage... I would probably end up going with one of the New Japan guys though.
  7. Gotta join forces with Parv here. Don't think they'd win my woty, but Savage and DiBiase would absolutely be in contention for me. I do feel that if they had a run with that level of matches in any other promotion, more would agree. It seems like a little bias against wwf is playing into it. ... For 88, I think I'm for Lawler maybe.
  8. On Tatanka: Wasn't one if his matches against Martel ok? ... And I have a weird memory of a Luger cage match, maybe on Raw, that didn't suck totally? On Kerry vs Reigns: agree with Will completely. Kerry's a lock on my list. Reigns might be there for the next list in 5-10 years time, but not yet. Precious few of the current roster are in contention for me.
  9. Like Parv said, there are exceptions. But barring a handful of those, I'll probably also mainly rank those with at least a 10 year career, and I'm thinking minimum a handful of years at top level of performance.

    The Rules

For me, I had a vague outline for a list. But listening to numerous of the podcasts has inspired me extremely. Gone are most of the "I know they suck, but I enjoy them" as well as most of the "I know they're great, but they bore me" picks (thanks Will for the latter, that's all you!). And I'd decided not to include guys I'd seen in less than ten full length quality matches. Turns out, there's still way more than 100 candidates, and the list of nominees have turned up a couple of new ones for me (was pretty blank on lucha, but I'm getting there). So my key to deciding on what weighs heaviest for me was the podcasts.
  11. And by the way: another great show, guys! Thanks!
  12. Like the Hansen injury angle. Early 82: Maybe Hansen injure Bob, who has to vacate. Hire Rick Martel who shocks and wins tournament. Holds title (great feuds against Slaughter and Snuka, maybe heel Hogan, Valentine). Sheik beats him, Hogan beats Sheik. Bob never got rematch, turns heel in 84 and feuds with Hogan until the Piper-Hogan feud starts up.
  13. Great show! Thanks! Always into Martel (including The Model run, sorry...). But you guys just inspired me to rewatch a ton of his stuff. And then I got stuck watching a lot of Portland. Cost me a couple of days that should've been spent writing, but so worth it. Thanks 😄👍
  14. I hate that I laughed so hard at JvK's "Sparky Plugg" comment 😂😂😂
  15. The world of wrestling is full of insane and insanely entertaining backstage stories and legends... You just took over one of the major Hollywood studios and decide to produce one or more feature films about wrestling based on real life events and people. What stories would you film and who would you cast in the leading roles? (What era of actors you use is up to you).
  16. Recently rewatched this... Fucking loved it :-) :-) :-) ... Might be the fever I've been hit by that's talking (or the generous amounts of rum I'm using as a cure...), but this is climbing nicely up my list of favorite all time matches :-)
  17. Not too into 89/90 Hogan vs. Perfect. But would have loved to see early 80's heel Hogan vs. maybe a 86-87 Curt. ... This match was fun in a junk food kinda way.
  18. Thanks guys! Great thread idea and lots of cool links.
  19. Thank you. Best Game Show Ever is still Match Game, but thanks nonetheless. Until you have Linda Hogan on Brainbuster... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ApLkKmWrpK0 Ha! That would do it! :-D ... New favorite online thread: Dream contestants on Brainbuster!
  20. He's definetely not a great actor. Not a subtle one at least. I think you're right, helmet. He always seemed to me, to be one of the pre-ppv guys mainly. Someone, as you say, really tuned in to working the arena matches. It's a totally different beast to be able to perfectly work a match and not oversell it, when you have a camera right in your face, and still be able to communicate to the nosebleeds. ... Has anyone ever truly mastered doing both at the same time? I'd love to hear examples of it from any of you. ... Actors on stage can also come off as overacting, when a play is filmed and rewatched later. ... You have a good point, and it will probably keep Steamboat out of my top 10. But I'll also have him high on my list. NB: When I say "pre-ppv" guy, I am fully aware that he's in several of my all time favorite ppv and tv matches. That just makes him even more impressive, in my mind.
  21. This was just as it was supposed to be. Silly, but a total feel good moment :-)
  22. This is one of the matches I can watch anytime. Or even just listen to, which says all about Heenan's work (and Gorilla's actually... Sure, it's Flair's and Heenan's night, but Monsoon is too often overlooked here). ... Easily my favorite Rumble. Best level of talent, so many storylines in the match and Heenan's brilliance. So much fun! ... I've even always liked the ending. Flair, Sid and Hogan. 'Course the smaller heel has to win by a sneak attack from behind. Would have been cool, if they'd listened to the crowd and turned Hogan. But the anticlimactic outcome and Sid-Hogan feud doesn't detract from this match for me. ... I too get a tear in my eye :-)
  23. Agree. Moose was a really fun cowardly heel, but this isn't the best showcase for it. Mercifully short though...
  24. Actually liked this. Steele was a pretty mean heel in his prime.
