  1. El Gigante and Blaster Master Iron (he only had the match at Clash XII, but it was bad). Motor City Madman too.
  2. I really enjoyed the 1990 RWTL finals of the MVC vs Hansen/Spivey as well. It is a pretty great brawl that is worth checking out. I'm pretty sure it is on YouTube. I'll have to find it later and check it out for a review. The MVC is one of my favorite teams. I bought a DVD set of them from highspots a few years ago that has a very good collection of their matches, (from AJPW) including many of the ones listed in previous posts.
  3. How was this even a topic? Williams has a way better collection of work than Tenta does. Sure the Earthquake vs Hogan series was good, and Tenta had a few matches with Sting that were ok, but Williams' work alone in AJPW far outweighs anything Tenta ever did. Plus the Varsity Club was pretty cool.
  4. I have to go with cage matches. I'm more a fan of classic cage matches than ladder matches. I also love war games, I enjoy the Thunderdome match from Havoc '89, love and miss the old blue bar cage from WWE, and just in general prefer cage matches. I also like most Hell in a Cell matches, especially the older ones, but the latest one with Leanar vs Taker was excellent and had blood. I'd go probably ****1/2 on that one. I'm not saying I don't like ladder matches, I usually enjoy them, but the concept has been run into the ground recently. I have witnessed two classic ladder matches live though, that I do truly love: TLC from WrestleMania X-7 was a blast live, and watching again on DVD and the network years later it still holds up well. I also got to see Shawn vs Jericho from No Mercy 2008 live and loved that one too, and it won the WON match of the year that year. Other favorite ladder matches would be Shawn vs Razor at WM X and Summer Slam 1995 and maybe Rock vs HHH, which I haven't seen in a long time. WM 2000 (XVI) also has a good ladder match. I still prefer cage matches though overall. War Games 1 is one of my all time favorite matches, as is War Games 2, 1991, and 1992. Hogan vs Bossman, Bret vs Owen, Flair vs Luger (Capital Combat), Flair vs Race, Flair vs Garvin (both of them), Shawn vs Taker, Armageddon HIAC, HHH vs Cactus HIAC, Lesnar vs Taker HIAC, RnR vs Andersons, RnR vs Koloffs, Thunderdome from Havoc '89, Warrior vs Rude even from Summer Slam 1990 is pretty good. All the previously mentioned cage matches are some of my favorites to be sure. So in this argument, gotta go with cage matches over ladder matches. They hold up better, and the concept has not been driven into the ground, and usually they make for good blowoffs to a feud.
  5. Loved the first 5 editions of the show. I remember renting the 1987 and 1988 versions of the show, and as a Hulkamaniac I was super upset about Hogan's cheap elimination in the 1987 main event. My family was moving into a new house that my Dad was renovating, and my brother and I as young kids (Dec 1988), watched the first Survivor Series on VHS. We both were hooked on the new show (even though the 1988 edition had just happened). It was a fond memory of mine in my early wrestling fandom. The show became my favorite concept show, and the two Tag Teams Survivor Series matches from the 1987 and 1988 shows remain favorite matches of mine, especially the 1988 match (Demolition Team vs Powers of Pain Team). I also loved Gorilla and Jesse on the first three shows and thought Piper did a great job on the 1990 show. Gorilla and Bobby were awesome as always, in the 1991 edition. I think that's when my dislike for Undertaker started, was when he beat Hogan. Anyways, those shows are special to me, and I still watch them a few times a year. Jesse's rant in the Hogan match in 1989 is epic, as he was just on fire that whole show. Long live classic Survivor Series.
  6. Need to rewatch a few matches and see where they stand.
  7. I watched this match again today, it had been a very long time since I had seen it. The pinfall reversal sequence at the end does seem a tad awkward, but man, what a spectacular match. Jumbo is out throwing bombs most of the match, although he does try to slow it down with a couple of submission holds, and Misawa is the young buck, trying to take over. Misawa uses his quickness, and some great ariel moves throughout the contest, and the beginnings of the famed elbow strikes. It's just a phenomenal match, with both wrestlers givin their all and telling a fantastic story throughout the contest. An easy ***** match, which truly helped AJPW achieve greatness in the 1990s.
  8. For such a short match (only 12 minutes +), this was pretty brutal. It had been quite a while since I had seen this match, and remembered that Vader was rather dominant. Misawa defends his Triple Crown title against Vader. After watching this again, it reminds me a lot of the Brock vs Cena match from Summer Slam 2014, with Vader playing Brock. Vader takes Misawa to Suplex City early on, with some brutal, cringe worthy German suplexes. Misawa has just brilliant selling throughout, as usual. Misawa gets in a few hope spots, with his famous elbow strikes and a few dives to the floor. The dives eventually backfire however, when he gets viciously power bombed on the floor. I was surprised when Misawa was able to get Vader up for the Tiger Driver towards the end of the match, but Vader battled back with some clubbing blows, and a great punch, before finishing Misawa off with a folding powerbomb. This was a great match for how short it was, and is worth checking out. ****
  9. Thank you for posting the lists. I absolutely loved both of these episodes, as I have been listening to the show in chronological order, (I'm on Clash 14 now), and had to skip ahead to these shows. Wow. I'm blown away, as they were just great. I plan on watching many of the matches I haven't seen (a lot of the Lucha stuff), and re watching a lot of the Puro stuff I haven't seen in a while. Once again, awesome shows. Just awesome.
  10. I remember reading a review of this match online somewhere, in the early 2000s, and thinking I needed to check it out. I had already seen the 6/3/94 match between them, and the famous 6/9/95 tag as well. Anyways, I got my hands on a tape of this match, and I loved it. The Ganso Bomb was pretty awesome. It's been quite a while since I've seen it, but recently found it again on YouTube, so I might have to check it out again. I think I went ****1/4 or so when I originally watched it. I'm pretty sure this is the one where Kawada breaks his arm early in the match as well.
  11. Yeah it was pretty crazy. Both were trips for Spring Break during college. Flew to Texas for 17 and went to Six Flags also (Foley and Al Snow were there that day too), and drove to Seattle for 19. So much fun, Axxess was a blast too, both times. Got to see Raw in Seattle the night after also (and missed class that day, that was the end of break), but that was the night Goldberg debuted.
  12. Hey, I'm Dave. I'm new to the board, and discovered it through the amazing podcasts. I'm 36 and have been a fan since I was around 4 or 5 years old. I'm married and have 2 kids. My 7 year old has recently become a fan, watching old WWF stuff with me. I was born in Minnesota, but have lived in Oregon since 1988. When I was young in Minnesota, my dad introduced me to wrestling. We didn't have cable, but had WWF, AWA, and World Class, through networks and syndication. I was a huge fan of Hulk Hogan (and still am). I also liked The Von Erichs, Savage, Steamboat, Andre, and The Road Warriors. The first show I ever went to was a WWF house show in May of 1988 at the Met Center in Minneapolis. I got to see Andre vs Duggan, Rude (who was awesome) vs Jake, Warrior vs Hercules, Demolition (who I also loved) vs Steike Force, Bret vs Bad News, and Bam Bam vs Honky. In 1988, when my family moved to Oregon, we got cable. This is when I saw NWA/WCW for the first time. That's when I finally discovered Ric Flair and his awesomeness! I went to the video store and rented all the tapes I could from WWF and NWA/WCW. For some reason my cable carrier didn't carry PPV, so when I wanted to watch WrestleMania V so bad, I couldn't. Instead I turned on the TV and found Clash VI. From that moment forward Inwas hooked on NWA stuff as well, with Flair vs Steamboat becoming my favorite match that day, and forever since. I've been a huge fan ever since my childhood, attended WrestleMania 17 (where I met Regal, Okerlund, Heenan, Earthquake, Typhoon, And Tony Garea) and 19 (Where Hogan waved at me from his limo, I met Benoit, The Dudleys, and Maven) while I was in college (for Spring Break both times), and in about 2002ish or so, started to become a little less interested in WWE, that's when I finally ordered some AJPW tapes and the NJPW Super J Cup tapes. I found myself hooked on the Japanese product then. Misawa, Kawada, Kobashi, and Taue were awe inspiring to me. I also have attended a few Raw and Smackdown shows in Portland, and No Mercy 2008, which was awesome. Anyways, I've been a fan for a long time. I've tracked down as much footage of things I can find, have hundreds (maybe over 1,000 wrestling DVDs), and just have always enjoyed being a fan. I don't watch RAW that much anymore, if at all and usually follow things online, and watch the specials and other things on the network, DVDs, Japan, territories and so on. My favorite wrestlers of all time are: Hogan, Flair, Vader, Austin, Misawa, Kawada, Steamboat, Savage, Shawn, and some others. Tag Teams: Brain Busters and Holy Demon Army, The Midnight Express, Demolition, The Rockers, British Bulldogs, Misawa/Kobashi, Miracle Violence Connection. Favorite Matches: Flair vs Steamboat-Clash VI, Savage vs Steamboat--WM3, War Games 1 7/4/87, Misawa/Kobashi vs Kawada/Taue--6/9/95, Misawa vs Kawada 6/3/94, Hogan vs Savage-WM5, Demolition Team vs Powers of Pai Team-Survivor Series 1988, and some others. Favorite years: 1989, 1992, 1994, 1987, 1997 Current Favorites: Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Shinsuke Nakamura, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn
